Publisher's Summary

Hiro

Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death...the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense. Still, the more I’m around Maddox, the more I realize that beneath that surly exterior is a kind and caring man who will do anything to help.

Maddox

When another man dies, I know we have a serial killer on our hands - the same murderer who has remained elusive for a year and a half. To add to my frustration, I keep running into Hiro at crime scenes, only to hear him claim that he can talk to ghosts. The words of the dead could lead us to the serial killer and even tell us who is next, but ghosts? There’s no such thing as ghosts. Hiro is determined and charming, and no matter what I do, I can’t stop letting him get involved. He's definitely snagged my attention, but when he nearly winds up dead, I know he's getting closer to the truth - and if I don’t do something soon, he might be next.

Ghost of Lies is full of action, mystery, humor, and romance. Though more is planned for this couple, the mystery is solved and there is a happy ending.

thoroughly entertained

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes

📖 Story comment: Good pace, entertaining plot with fun and likeable characters.
Never a dull moment - with mystery, mayhem, and the constant banter between characters both alive and dead - this was a delightfully entertaining story and I hope there are many more additions to this series.

🎧 Narrator comment: Greg Boudreaux has done a masterful performance bringing the characters and story to life. He has good timing, rhythm, inflections and intonations and it's easy to distinguish the characters from each other. A thoroughly enjoyable performance from a narrator at the top of his game.

so good

Certainly a bitter sweet ending, I cried, but in a good way. Has unexpected twists and turns but everything you expect from an Alice Winters book. Amazing!!!

Love me some Reggie!!

I love all of Alice’s books. Not only does she tell a great story but she writes even better characters and not just main but supporting characters too. That being said Reggie is a blast and can’t wait to see and hear what he does next.

LOVED IT So Much

What a great listen this story was, I enjoyed it from the first chapter till very end. I am usually not a big fan of ghost stories, but a huge Alice Winters fan so I gave it a try and so glad I did. Ghost of Lies was captivating and full of surprises, twists and unexpected turns, interesting characters and heart-breaking mystery. Narrator made this book even better with his amazing voice and storytelling ability. This was a perfect listening experience.

Confusing Ending

The story line was great! The narrator was awesome. Character development and personality was portrayed superbly.
However, the ghost bird… What happened to him? Does he stay with Hiro? Also, something I found confusing… the killer. The group of people he wanted dead were older than he was. The Nicholas, Steven, killer triangle didn’t make sense. Was Millie a teen or was she Nicholas and Steven’s age. Millie’s mother was another twist that we didn’t hear any more about. That was was good but could have been left out as it had no real bearing. I’d like to know if Reggie and Natalie make an appearance in other novels.

Fun, Engaging, Interesting! LOVE, LOVE it!

I love this book! This book had it all romance of course, but the mystery was really intriguing and elaborate enough to keep my interest. I was engaged the whole time I listened; Greg Boudreaux is so talented, I always love everything he narrates. I would highly recommend this listen!

a brilliant take made even bettee

Ghost of Lies is a well plotted, sassy snarky mystery with annoying ghosts, a serial murder, and hot MM goodness made even better with Greg narrating.

Read, listen, or both. I recommend this as Alice Winters best book to date. she's growing as an author and we get to follow along for the ride.

Good story. Only minor gripes

Great story and fun characters. Lots of lovely snark. A nice romance. I enjoyed it.

Only 2 minor problems-

Alice’s obsession with the use of the words hunk, hunkalicious and sketchy! She needs a thesaurus as it’s very evident and annoying at times.

Also the narrator needs to learn how to pronounce Nicholas. I thought maybe it was the author specifying that pronunciation. Maybe it was pronounced like that in other countries I though. But I could find NO country that pronounced it like that. Greg Boudreaux was just murdering the pronunciation. Greg occasionally pronounced Hiro as Chiro as well.

One of her best!!!

Absolutely loved this, right up there with The Hitman series and maybe even better?
The mystery murder was really well done, I couldn't stop listening.
Loved it all.

Same characters, different job

While Alice Winters books are amusing, they're very formulaic. She writes the same handful of characters but gives them a different job or tragic back story whatever she writes. In this book we get the same lineup of the grumpy, closed character, the horny sassy character, the smart mouthed character and the female best friend friend...who this time is a ghost.
The story was okay, nothing original. We've all read plenty of books where the MC can see ghosts and ends up helpping the police solve cold cases. I would have liked a more original twist but it is what it is. The narration was great.

Outstanding Narrator and Story

This one is fantastic, and Greg Bordreaux once again proved why he is one of my top 2 narrators.

I had no clue who the killer was until it actually came to it. Absolutely. No. Clue. I'll admit I'm never the fastest one to pick 'whodunit', but I usually have a bit of an idea or a 'maybe it's them' list by 3/4 through. But nope, zip, nada. Complete surprise!

I love Alice Winters' humour, but for me it doesn't work so much on the written page, but in conjunction with a good narrator/voice actor (let's face it they are actors not just narrators), it is pure gold.

Great start to the series

Really enjoyed Ghost of Lies due to the entertainment value of the ghosts, mainly Natalie & Reggie. They were both hilarious and really enjoyed messing with Hiro, they both got such a kick out of constantly stirring him up.

Always glad when it isn't obvious who the bad guy is going to be, not being able to pick them out kept me guessing right up until the big reveal. This author is hit & miss for me, some of her series I've absolutely loved, others I've had difficulty getting through the first book. Happy to say ghost of Lies is going into the first category.

Greg Boudreaux, as usual, puts in a wonderful performance - I do very much enjoy listening to audios that he narrates.

Seriously fantastic!

I don’t know how Alice does it? Another fantastic story and a truely wonderful voiceover also. Just suited the characters and the story perfectly.
