Publisher's Summary

Sherlockian detective of the supernatural R. F. Jackaby and his intrepid assistant, Abigail Rook, search for their ghostly landlady Jenny Cavanaugh's murderer and fight their most fearsome foe yet in the highly anticipated third volume of this New York Times best-selling paranormal mystery series.

Jenny Cavanaugh, the ghostly landlord of 926 Augur Lane, has enlisted the services of her detective-agency tenants to solve a decade-old murder - her own. Abigail Rook and her eccentric employer, R. F. Jackaby, dive into the cold case, starting with a search for Jenny's fiancé, who went missing the night she died. But when a new gruesome murder closely mirrors the events of 10 years prior, Abigail and Jackaby realize that Jenny's case isn't so cold after all, and her killer may be far more dangerous than they suspected.

Fantasy and folklore mix with mad science as Abigail's race to unravel the mystery leads her across the cold cobblestones of 19th-century New England, down to the mythical underworld, and deep into her colleagues' grim histories to battle the most deadly foe she has ever faced.

Sherlock Holmes crossed with Harry Dresden

The above heading may be an over simplification, but that's the best way to quickly describe the spirit of the Jackaby books by William Ritter. I've enjoyed each of the books in this series so far, but Ghostly Echoes expands the mythology of these stories in new and exciting ways. This seems like a turning point for the series and Ritter does a great job of expanding the scope of this world without sacrificing the character development that makes these stories great. This was not what I was expecting from this book (but in a good way). Instead of a "case of the week" story, we get a intriguing peek behind the curtain of the larger Jackaby world that Ritter has created. Lots of fun, with great characters to boot.
For me, narration can make or break an audiobook and they have found the perfect performer to narrate the adventures of Abigail Rook, R. F. Jackaby and friends. Highly recommend for fans of Conan Doyle and Jim Butcher. Can't wait for the next story.

Lovely

A lovely addition to the Jacaby books. This one explores the circumstances surrounding Jenny's case, and introduces fun new supernatural creatures, people, and places. The folklore is fantastic. as usual, Nicola Barber does a brilliant job with the narration.

Hooked

Addicting, unpredictable, easy to follow, and magical. Jackaby is thrilling and charismatic and the character development is better than to be expected.

A bit too grim

Audible suggestions pushed this one at me and the first book caught my attention. The second flubbed it and I barely made it through this third one. It seems it is supposed to be YA but the content is too grim.

Thrilling ride every time!

Great story, well narrated. A cross between Scooby Doo, Sherlock Holmes and the Fantasy genre.

Best reads/audiobooks I've had in awhile.

An excellent book in a FANTASTIC series. I'm very sad the next book will be the conclusion.
The stories are entertaining and thus far I haven't been able to work them out early on, which is incredibly satisfying. The author is great at making the characters wholly believable. The stories are very well rounded, engaging, suspenseful, and often times very funny. I honestly can't say enough good things about them is series.

Also, if you purchase the audiobook the narrator does a fantastic job and really goes above and beyond to keep listeners entertained and engaged while making each character sound distinctly different.

I ended up purchasing all the books and the audiobooks as companions.

Narrator and narration are brilliant.

Far better than Beastly Bones! I love Miss Rook and she shines in this "episode." Cant wait for the next installment, but really bummed that it's the conclusion to this series.

Skipping

The story is great and the performance flawless. BUT this skips a lot not abridged but in mid word or sentence. It leaves for a disjointed listen.
