Publisher's Summary

In the Outer Islands, gods and magic rule the ocean.

Under the command of Captain Rafe Morrow, the crew of the Celestial Jewel ferry souls to the After World and defend the seas from monsters. Rafe has dedicated his life to protecting the lost, but the tides have shifted and times have changed.

His sister, the Goddess of the Moon, is on a rampage and her creatures are terrorizing the islands. The survival of the living and dead hinge on the courage and cunning of a beleaguered captain and his motley crew of men and ghosts.

What he doesn't know is that her threat is part of a larger game. That an ancient, black-winged malevolence is using them all as pawns....

Come set sail with ghosts, gods, and sea monsters.

Magical sea adventure

I really enjoyed the narration. The different voices and accents were excellent. The overall story was good. I feel it was lacking something but not quite sure what. I liked the characters and their at sea adventures. I received a free copy for review.

Gods and Monsters

Rafe the soul god helps those dead to crossover or stay on his ship with his crew. His sister the moon goddess is crazy and mad at Rafe because he did not help her human love to stay with her. This book is about the interaction between the souls and the monsters that the moon goddess uses to punish her brother. It too a little time to get the gist of this story, but in the end is was a nice book. I was given a free copy of this audio book at my request and this is my honest review.

Action at sea with gods, ghosts, and monsters

"Ghosts of the Sea Moon," by A. F. Stewart is a fine seafaring fantasy, well written, with believable characters, that moves along at a good pace from action to action, weaving in background to explain and support characters motives, actions, and attitudes to give the reader an eventual understanding of why things are as they are. However, we are fed this information at a rate to keep us interested while beckoning us on with mystery. I began to become suspicious that all was not as it seemed to be in chapter two, and my suspicions were soon born out. The author continued to intrigue and surprise me with twists and turns of the plot. I don't want to give anything away, so let me just say that the author has developed an interesting pantheon of gods, who turn out to be just as human as we are, if not more so. Overall an interesting, intriguing, delightful story, well read by the narrator, Alyson Grauer, who gave each character a distinct identity and set appropriate moods with her vocalizations.

Death god sets out to deal with the moon

This is a very interesting story concept. A pirate captain who is also a caring death god makes for a very interesting main character. Pirate sets out to sink the moon is fun too. It would be 5 star but the swearing, though not overly used for a pirate story, does get really distracting especially in an audiobook. Very good read overall.

Pretty darn good I believe.

Loved the story with all the twists and turns it had. From the God's, to the lowly Mortals, we all have our problems. Go back in time to where it all was real, or not. You decide. Me, myself, and I, all enjoyed the Audiobook, the Narration, and especially the story itself.

Hmmm

I had a really hard time getting into the story for this book. I actually listened to it multiple times hoping it would click together, but it never did. I didn’t dislike the story, but it isn’t one that kept my interest. I will say that I enjoyed the ending. The narrator did an good job, but I do wonder if it had been a different voice if maybe my interest would have been different, who knows...

Beautiful writing, not quite narrated to potential

This story was beautiful, the narrator perfectly capable, but I got a constant sense that something was missing, that the cadence perhaps or something was off by just a little, not quite reaching its full potential. I feel like if the story were slightly less lyrically written, or the narrator slightly more attuned to it, things would have meshed much better. As it is, it was a good, enjoyable experience, but didn't quite manage to reach great.

The story is one of family squabbles among the gods, of mortals and immortals and ships and monsters. It's quite different from my usual fantasy reading fare, and very refreshing. If the premise seems up your alley, consider giving it a try.

A Great Listen

The ultimate story of a dysfunctional family, brother and sister at war. Family is never easy, add in being gods, the battle becomes epic. On the high seas they battle for the souls of humans. Magic, swords and monsters fill this action filled story along with some suspense that will keep you listen far longer than you intended. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review.

Entertaining and Fun to Listen to

Ghosts was a good book to listen to. I like the characters and hope to hear more in the future. The build up at the end makes you just want to move on to the next book. I'd like to hear more about the gods and how they view life and the world. Narration was also good the whole time.

Different "gods" at war

This started slow for me but within the first hour it took off and never stopped. The god of souls and the moon goddess are siblings in a dysfunctional family of gods. Our goddess has gone insane and it's all our protagonist can do bring her under control. Plenty of good character development and a story line that's satisfying to the end.

Fickle Gods

I find myself torn between fantasy and tiresome real world reality. But great story nonetheless. Well narrated and well written. The endless bitter fighting amongst the gods and goddesses reminds me of rich spoiled brats who have had no discipline whatsoever...kind of like real-world issues we are experiencing right now.

Ghosts of the sea moon.

I received a free code for this from the author. I tried this book because it sounded rather interesting and I'm glad I did. This is an enthralling tale of siblings at war with each other. These are divinities and their struggles are reminiscent of classical mythology as they contain gods, goddesses, hidden locations where the gods live, magic and lots of sea monsters. An enjoyable adventure very nicely put together. The reasons that this did not get 5 stars were a sometimes stilted narration and at times jarring music which was painful to the ears for me. Others may well have no problem with it. I would have given it a 4.5 but the ratings system doesn't do half marks. An excellent, well put together book that draws you into the story and holds tightly on to you until the end.
