Story
For 10 years, I’ve lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas’s golden castle. But one night changed everything. Now I’m here, a prisoner of Fourth Kingdom’s army, and I’m not sure if I’m going to make it out of this in one piece. They’re marching to battle, and I’m the bargaining chip that will either douse the fire or spark a war. At the heart of my fear, my worry, there’s him — Commander Rip. Known for his brutality on the battlefield, his viciousness is unsurpassed. But I know the truth about what he is.

I’m a Gemini. Impulsive. Curious. Headstrong. A twin. Heir to a throne I know nothing about. And it turns out, I’m Fae. But of course, there’s a catch - all I have to do to claim my birthright is prove that I’m the most powerful supernatural in the whole of Solaria. And sure, technically that’s true, as I’m the daughter of the Savage King. But the bit they didn’t put in the brochure was that every single Fae in this Kingdom would claim my throne if they could.

You'd think that basically being in charge of love would be an epic job, right? Wrong. Sure, I can blow some Lust into people's faces and watch the show, but I can't actually participate. It gets old, trust me. Same goes for love. I can pass it out like sugar-free lollipops at a dentist's office, but I can't get any love for myself. It totally sucks. I used to consider myself a hopeless romantic, so why wouldn't I choose to become a cupid? Sounds like a good idea, right? Wrong again. They don't call us stupid cupids for nothing.

Publisher's Summary
By best-selling author Raven Kennedy, comes the first book in a stunning new fantasy series, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout. The fae abandoned this world to us. And the ones with power rule.
Gold. Gold floors, gold walls, gold furniture, gold clothes. In Highbell, in the castle built into the frozen mountains, everything is made of gold. Even me. King Midas rescued me. Dug me out of the slums and placed me on a pedestal. I’m called his precious. His favored. I’m the woman he Gold-Touched to show everyone that I belong to him. To show how powerful he is. He gave me protection, and I gave him my heart. And even though I don’t leave the confines of the palace, I’m safe. Until war comes to the kingdom and a deal is struck. Suddenly, my trust is broken. My love is challenged. And I realize that everything I thought I knew about Midas might be wrong. Because these bars I’m kept in, no matter how gilded, are still just a cage. But the monsters on the other side might make me wish I’d never left.
The myth of King Midas reimagined. This compelling adult fantasy series is as addictive as it is unexpected. With romance, intrigue, and danger, the gilded world of Orea will grip you from the very first page.
Please note: This book contains explicit content and darker elements, including mature language, violence, and non-consensual sex. It is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age. This is book one in a series.

Horrible performance!
Although the writing is rather juvenile, containing repetitively misused words and far too much exposition, it’s the reader that really makes its painful experience. Do NOT waste your time listening to this. I’m reading the third book now and the writing does get a little better with each book (still very clumsy). The story itself is good, and with a competent editor this could have been elevated to a noteworthy series. If you can handle the writing, it’s a decent read - just don’t listen to the audible version!

Could be better
The beginning is very tedious and pretty boring. About halfway through the story picks up. I’m not sure if there are any characters I’m supposed to actually like. The narrator took a bit to get used to. Her “s” is very harsh sounding and I had to turn the volume down because the hissing at the end of every “s” hurt my ears. She also mispronounces a bunch of words which is pretty jarring and takes me out of the story.

I am here for the story
The story opened with exciting activities. I was looking for a fantasy story with just the right amount of spiciness. The unfortunate part of this story is the narrator. She kind of rushes through the reading and the tone is on the boring side, which sucks because the story is not boring.

This was refreshing and fun
I’ve listened to everything in this genre. And this is different, in a good way. It’s like Sarah J. Maas or Jennifer L. Armentrout meets Brandon Sanderson warbreaker. Now hurry up with the other audio books so I can listen to the next three and I don’t have to read them. The first book seems like a set up for the real story, and I wanna know what happens. Narrator was perfect for the character!

Couldn’t finish it
I was simultaneously irritated and impressed by the narrators lack of pauses. Does she breathe at any point??? The speed of reading really threw me off as it was hard to keep track of what was actually going on. This may have contributed to my dislike of the story but I just could not get into it at all. I didn’t get on with the main character (the voice certainly didn’t help with it) and it’s hard to keep interest in the story when you just don’t care about the characters. If you listen to the sample and don’t like the narrators style, don’t get this book. The narration does not get easier to listen to.

Wow
This was just brilliant! Chapter one, I wanted to scream at all the disturbing scenes and the MC.
But then it all made sense. This is a brutal, powerful and mesmerising read! I understand the hype now!
Warning: There are lots of triggers! And the use of the C word (which I know some find very offensive). But if you can look past all the GOT like moments, the story itself is brilliant and totally captivating!!
I’m excited to read the next instalment.

I'm usually able to put the time into a new narrator and there cadence. I was 10min in and could not stand this any more. It is impossible to take in when emphasis is placed on any words.

Mono tone narrator
Great book, mono tone narrator hard to listen to.
Hoping Book 2 has different narrator.
