Publisher's Summary

Gillette Park, a sleepy town nestled in the Rocky Mountains, harbors a secret.

Twenty-three years ago, a young girl went missing. Two days later her body was found lodged beneath the footbridge over Boulder Creek. The murder shook the town but they soon found it was only the beginning. A serial killer hides among them - a serial killer who strikes twice, sometimes three times a year.

Mason Cooper couldn’t wait to leave Gillette Park. At 18, she headed off to college and the bright lights of Los Angeles, thinking she'd never return home to the broken family and forgotten friendships she'd left behind. But being a cop in LA lost its charm and - after a breakup - Mason heads back to her hometown. The serial killer still haunts Gillette Park and she becomes consumed with catching him.

Dr. Grace Jennings has what some call a gift. She "sees" things. She "hears" things. Running from that gift was useless so she's learned to embrace it instead. Now the FBI has solicited her help in catching the serial killer.

Not everyone in this mountain town has embraced the idea of bringing in a psychic, including Mason's uncle and boss, Sheriff Cooper. Mason is tasked with being the go-between, and she soon finds herself with a front row seat as Dr. Jennings discovers the dark - and well hidden - secrets of Gillette Park.

As Mason and Grace's friendship grows, so does their attraction. But safety lies only with each other, as they battle the evil that lives in Gillette Park.

Another excellent story by Gerri Hill!

For the first time ever, I both listened to - and physically read - a book at the same time. I started Gillette Park by Gerri Hill as an audiobook and could tell I really loved the story, but the narration wasn't really adding to the experience for me. It was my first listen to Nicol Zanzarella. I wouldn't go so far as to say I didn't like her narration. She's a very good reader and has a lovely tone to her voice. But I found there just wasn't variety in the voices - and I need that, especially in the case of the two main characters. With Zanzarella it felt like someone who reads well was reading the book to me, but I was craving a PERFORMANCE of the work as I've gotten spoiled by narrators like Abby Craden and Angela Dawe. So although I went back and forth between the two, I got much more out of reading the book itself and spent more time doing that. As for the story, this was similar to Gerri's Weeping Walls and Keepers of the Cave - in that it was paranormal in nature. And like those, this was excellent! This was a great story - an exciting build and at times creepy and intense. I felt like the MCs and supporting cast of characters were well fleshed out, and there was a sweet love story too. Once again Gerri proves why she's one of my all-time favorite lesfic writers. I'm constantly amazed that Gerri keeps coming up with ideas for these novels! And she excels at writing about cops. My suggestion is that you will get more out of the book by reading it, as opposed to listening, but it may just be my personal preference. Highly recommend this one!

Excellent!

I loved Gillette Park. Disclaimer: I don't like the para normal genre. But, this book will rope you in and keep tight hold of you until finish it. Lots of action. Nicol Zanzarella does an excellent job with the narration.

ICONIC

I would recommend in a heart beat it has drama, twist and turns ,LOVE, and also it's not overly sexualized, like many LGBTQ books I have read ; to be honest I feel as though you see the relationship grow as both characters grow. recomend in a Herat beat .

not my sort of story

Gerri Hill is one of my most favorite authors but supernatural is not. I love all of her mysteries and romances but I really do not like her supernatural themes. Soooo, this was not a favorite. Keeper of the Cave was another. if this is the first of Gerri Hills books you have read....please do not judge her writing by this novel. She is normally very good. Try Hunters Way , At Seventeen or Snow Falls.
First, about this story. Its about a small town that has a serial killer that has gone on for about 50 years. the local cops have tried everything to solve it but cant. so they call in a psychic (Grace) Of course everyone thinks she is a quack. (so why bring her in? and of course she solves the mystery) Unfortunately I didnt like one of the main characters....Mason.
75% of the story has Mason not believing in Grace's powers and thinks she is a "freak". This gets very annoying.
There is lots of Grace talking to the dead victims to get clues to who the murderers are and of course no one believing her. And then a few sub plots, such as kidnapped victims held in a room for 10 years and Mason's parentage.
And of course the ending was WAY over the top for me.
if you like supernatural you will probably love this story.
Too much and too weird for me.

oh, and it was an audible book, so I got the benefit of a narrator, Nicole Zanzarella. She was ok but did not change her voice much for different characters.

Could not finish

Got about 5 hours in....the last hour painfully. These characters are complete cardboard cutouts, their interactions painfully ridiculous. There's nothing there to like about the protagonists. The plot itself just treads water in a disorganized fashion while the two characters have redundant and unbelievable arguments with no emotional depth. The mystery portion of the plot was interesting enough that I tried pretty darn hard to get past the character, dialogue and plotting problems, but it just wasn't a go.

Different and Entertaining

I was very impressed with the storytelling. Very refreshing, new and unpredictable.

I found that I liked the characters, this book held my interest to the very end.

Only thing I would say is lacking in this book is the passion, I found myself not feeling the tension and desire between to two main characters.

The build up was nice, but the payoff didn’t fully deliver. There was mystery and colorful rich characters, but the romance was lacking. Their love was prophesied but when it came to fruition it was almost repetitive.

I like a great mystery, and love a great love story.. but I was left a tad unsatisfied by the connection and chemistry.

It was sweet, but definitely not hot. Still think it’s definitely worth a read and still gets 4 stars from me!

A must read

Gerri Hill did such an amazing job as usual! This book had me looking over my shoulder and second guessing every bird I saw. I loved that it was thrilling and how Gerri made the characters come to life, pun intended. There was a great story line and the romance was very sweet between the main characters.
I also enjoyed the narration. This was my first time hearing Zanzarella and I thought she did a wonderful job in telling the story.

I REALLY enjoyed this book, definitely one of my all time favs for this genre. Some people haven't liked the narration but I had NO problems with it. I highly recommend this book. Awesome story.

Fantastic Narration and Story

Nicol Zanzarella is a superb narrator who effectively voices ALL the different characters and brings them to life...or, in the case of this particular book, ‘and death’! (That last part will make absolute sense once you listen to this book!)

The story has many layers and twists and turns that keep you guessing throughout. Even if you piece together one part of the story, when it plays out, there is always another element you don’t see coming. This is what keeps it thrilling to listen to from beginning to end.

It’s not your typical lesbian romance novel in the sense that the relationship between the two female leads is a subplot to the main storyline. It’s refreshing to listen to a book where there is WAY more to the story than ‘two lesbians fall in love’.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a thriller with a dark twist to it, paranormal and lesbian leads!

This book tried to be too much

I thought this would be a murder mystery book but it quickly too a shift into the supernatural with giant arms grabbing people, ooze attacks etc. Then it seemed to shift to horror with knife wielding mutant babies, then romance, then etc. It hopped about a lot and made it difficult to engage.

The main problem for me was that the characters lacked agency. They get told "You'll solve the killings but only after a few more children are dead." and rather than saying "Screw that!" and trying to save them anyway they just roll with it. There is one plan for exactly how this plays out and they just follow it as instructed. Not great.

This is exacerbated by the endless prophecies foretelling love, retirement, solving crime, etc. If you have been foretold a deterministic path that you will definitely follow then it sucks the life out of the story. Spoiler but the main characters are told they have to fall in love to save the world so they do. There's no chemistry. There was a night where they get undressed and share a bed for bodily warmth and they just go to sleep. No romance, no build up, no flirting, then near the end we get a quick wham bham thank you maam style sex scene that they are sort of obligied to do to stop the killings as per a prophecy.

So you've got two characters who are in a sort of arranged marriage scenario with no chemistry, whose actions don't matter because everything is pre-determined. Then you get all the supernatural stuff with monsters and ghosts and possession and I just got fed up.

If you want a romance book go somewhere else. If you want a murder mystery this one introduces the killer as a new character right near the end, seriously. They then decide not to kill the baddies only to have to kill them later in more dire circumstances as you would expect since this always happens.

The narration is good and the book wasn't bad but it's not getting more than 3/5 from me.

Awful

Honestly the reviews that praise this book are in my opinion farcical. This is a very poor effort by Gerri Hill and really does her no credit at all.
I can not come close to finishing this audiobook. The storyline is ridiculously tedious and very boring. Don’t waste your time and money with this book.

Great story.
I'm not at all into supernatural, but it worked.
it all got a bit sexy towards the end.
But, really, it's not a complaint.

I never...

......thought I would like this story as much as I did. Being psychic sceptic I bought the ebook because it was so cheap. I tend to.get the audio at the same time. I found both MCs engaging, the dead kids lovely, the story compelling and the narration excellent.

Paranormal Murder Mystery

Very long winded. Although I finished the story it was hard to hear. Kind of like when you see a car crash but you don't look away. Has dark themes, emotionally abusive parent, infidelity, abuction, serial murders, rape, evil spirit, children raised in captivity (most spoken of but never in huge detail) although all of this is covered the story is really focused on our MCs and following the visions and guidance they get to try crack the case of over 20 years of dead children. Mason and Grace have a beautiful connection, quick wit, easy banter and what develops to a really beautiful love story. But that is literally within the last 2 hours of this book. I think this is excellent writing, it is a thriller of sorts with a romance chucked in for levity I suppose. For what are very serious themes it was done in such a way that you don't cower away. Will I come back to this story?....probably just the end. If looking for a paranormal murder mystery grab this with both hands. If looking for a romance then give it a pass.

So before I my to bed last night I had to get up and double check that all the doors were locked. Supernatural theme handled in way that seemed congruent and believable. Plot all tied together well enough at the end and the romance development was cute.

Not bad

Good idea but is a bit repetitive at times, the conversations can drag on too much and cover the same ground on several occasions. Found that my mind would wander at times and had to concentrate to avoid missing plot points. The story kept me interested enough to keep listening though.
