Publisher's Summary

"A slow grin spread across his face, and I had to turn away from the wattage. It was like staring at the sun. The handsome sun that was making my core temperature rise and causing a hormone dump in my brain." (Shelby Thompson)

Personal trainer Jonah Bodine discovers more than he bargained for with the half-siblings he didn’t know he had in small-town West Virginia. Not only is his dead father a person of interest in a cold-case disappearance, but the entire town seems way too invested in Jonah’s happily-ever-after potential.

His summer of solitude in a lakeside cottage is ruined when his matchmaking sister saddles him with an unwanted roommate. Adorable, snort-laughing nerd Shelby Thompson came to Bootleg Springs looking for answers and ends up getting adopted by the town’s nosy elders. Maneuvered into sharing a cottage with the handsome trainer, she makes the best of a sticky situation by offering her perpetually shirtless roommate a strings-free summer fling. Jonah is tempted. Very tempted. But Shelby has secrets. And as the Callie Kendall mystery unravels, Shelby’s own past comes back to haunt her. The danger is very real, and so are the feelings she’s developing for Jonah.

Jonah and Shelby

Oh how I love Shelby her nerdy, quick witted, fun playful character made me fall in love with her instantly. How she responds and reacts to Jonah. How she simply understands people, and Helps Jonah come to terms with his childhood insecurities. she is a gem. The athlete and the nerd. I love everything about this couple. How he is so encouraging to her! sigh.. so sweet!!!

Stephen and Natalie were fantastic as always!!!

Captivating story, great narration!

WOW!!
Another sensational trip to Bootleg Springs. Gin Fling has to be the most intense, action packed steamy romcom mystery I’ve ever read!!! It is book 5 in the Bootleg Springs series, and we’ll follow Jonah and Shelby as they embark on their journey to happily ever after. While the couple’s story is completed in this book, the series has an ongoing mystery component and you will want to read the saga in order.
In Gin Fling we get to visit with all of our Bootleg’s best friends and get to meet exciting new characters and adorable four legged darlings. As Jonah and Shelby deal with insecurities, personal demons (past and present) and meddling family members -their feelings for each other grow, and what was meant to be a summer fling becomes so much more as Jonah helps Shelby overcome her trepidations and fears to achieve a major personal triumph. Now, will they be able to outrun the dangerous past as they plan their future together?

Jonah & Shelby

Audiobook Review
Overall 3.5 stars
Performance 4 stars
Story 3 stars

This was a cute small town romance with a bit of action and mystery. Jonah and Shelby are both looking for that sense of belonging/family, but are nervous to put down roots. I loved seeing the town come together and make these two a part of the community. The town shenanigans are always a lot of fun and it was so great to catch up with all the different characters/couples. Tropes like friends with benefits, enemies to lovers, forced proximity/roommates, and it's just a fling, all make appearances in the book. There was a lot to process in Gin Fling, from the Callie Kendall case, to a triathlon and training (IMO there was a little too much discussion about Shelby's "poor" eating habits), to a past trauma coming back, etc. Unfortunately, all these subplots split the focus too much and I felt like Jonah and Shelby's romance got pushed to the side and made the book unnecessarily long.

I enjoyed the narration by Stephen Dexter and Natalie Duke overall, but did feel that they were both a little too emphatic at times making their performances feel overacted. I also sometimes had trouble determining what character was speaking during Natalie Duke's chapters since many of the characters were voiced so similarly.

I'm looking forward to Gibson's book next and finally getting closure to the Callie Kendall case. The reveal/twist has me super intrigued and I'm hoping my hunch about GIbson's love interest is correct. Gin Fling is book 5 in the Bootleg Springs series and should be read in order since a larger story line spans the entire series.

CW: death of girlfriend (past), parental abandonment (past), assault/stalking & kidnapping, chronic illness & pain, discussions about diet and "healthy" eating

Another swoony exciting Bodine love story

This book is the perfect fun, heart warming, small town summer fling romance with a side of romantic suspense and it is filled with all the feels. Natalie Duke and Stephen Dexter do a wonderful job narrating these characters to life. Jonah Bodine is a personal fitness trainer who lives in small town Bootleg Springs, WV. He moved to town a year ago to meet his half-siblings, 3 brothers and a sister. Shelby is working on her dissertation for her PhD in social work and using the town as the basis of the work. Jonah’s conniving sister forced them to be roommates and they creep towards more while training for a triathlon, fostering a puppy, and trying to stick to their fling parameters. Jonah and Shelby are summer fling, roommates sizzling chemistry perfection and watching them stumble through was fun and heartwarming. They both have some baggage to work through on their way to realizing that there’s nothing temporary about their relationship. Bootleg Springs is just the most hilarious, heart warming, sweet, nosy, eccentric small town that ever existed. This hilarious romance has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steam, painful pasts, strong friendships, crazy families, quirky town folks, snort worthy moments, a mystery, some danger, surprises, and so much love. There is an overarching mystery plot line that runs through this series and this book gets close to the ending so the series needs to be enjoyed in order. I am excited to read about the final Bodine brother and the conclusion of the Callie mystery.

A couple of outsiders making me fall harder for Bootleg Springs!

The way the books flow, Jonah Bodine has a big role throughout the series. The authors really create an attachment to his character. He was someone who easily fit in, yet felt like an outsider. Shelby Thompson was an outsider, but was immediately embraced into the town and recognized that.

Jonah was stuck between going and staying. Shelby had her world mapped out but struggled to get herself there. I loved them together. Their situations were made for summer fling romance. I loved “watching” both of the main characters figure things out. This couple truly grew because of each other, and that sort of thing makes my romance loving heart burst.

One thing that the main characters of this story offer that is different from the others is their view as outsiders. They offer different perspective on Bootleg Springs. They both, but especially Shelby, put into words why we as the reader fall so in love with the town and it’s people. The bonds, the neighborly ways, the support, the sense of community, the belonging. They perfectly describe why we become so invested and immersed in this fictional town. It makes me nostalgic for a place I can’t visit, but somehow they make me ok with that.

The audio, I can’t even. Book after book in this series Stephen Dexter and Natalie Duke dominate. They are so good, they add so much. I am in awe of their talent on this series.

All the stars

Fantastic narration.
This is one of my favorite family series ever. One of my favorite small town series. If you like either or both of those then you have to read these books. Jonah finds a family, a love, and a home. It is so sweet seeing him becoming intertwined with his siblings. I’m so glad Shelby wasn’t a no good journalist. I’m bittersweet about the next book because it will be over, but I HAVE to know the answers to all the Callie questions. Come get swept up in the chaos of Bootleg Springs. You won’t regret it.

fun addition to series

others are my favourites, but still found this enjoyable - and think due in no small part to supporting characters. June continues to entertain - especially with pet pig.

It was a good next step in the series. I am hoping the next book ties it all together dramatically.
