Publisher's Summary

Three women. Three daughters. And a promise that they'll each get what they deserve.

College admissions season at Seattle's Elliott Bay Academy is marked by glowing acceptances from top-tier institutions and students as impressive as their parents are ambitious. But when Stanford alerts the school it's allotting only one spot to EBA for their incoming class, three mothers discover the competition is more cutthroat than they could have imagined.

Tech giant Alicia turns to her fortune and status to fight for her reluctant daughter's place at the top. Kelly, a Stanford alum, leverages her PTA influence and insider knowledge to bulldoze the path for her high-strung daughter. And Maren makes three: single, broke, and ill-equipped to battle the elite school community aligning to bring her superstar daughter down.

That's when, days before applications are due, one of the girls suffers a near-fatal accident, one that doesn't appear to be an accident at all.

As the community spirals out of control, three women will have to decide what lines they're willing to cross to secure their daughters' futures...and keep buried the secrets that threaten to destroy far more than just college dreams.

Love this audio book!!

Great book, great listen! I pretty much listened to it straight through - I could not put it down! The plot was so interesting and the characters became so real and nuanced that I am still thinking about them. Wonderful writing - I can't wait to read more from these authors.

I also love the reader and her performance. She has a wonderful voice and uses inflection subtly and took on characters really convincingly. I will look for other performances by her!

Loved it!

After seeing so many glowing reviews of this book, I was excited for the release of the audiobook. It did not disappoint! Girls with Bright Futures is fast-paced and suspenseful with great characters and smart, engaging dialogue. Mia Barron’s narration brings the characters to life and the authors do an amazing job of keeping you hooked. What I loved most about this book, though, were the sharp, relatable, and irreverent observations on our cultural... So many great themes from wealth inequality and privilege to parental anxiety and self perception. Would make for a great book club book!

So great and timely!

As an Academic Counselor at a private school, I so enjoyed listening to this novel about the craziness that surrounds college admissions. While this is fiction, there are nuggets of truth throughout. I couldn't get through this novel fast enough and was sad when it ended.

Narrator is the worst

Narrator ruins the whole thing. Like the story in the beginning, but gradually started hating even the two main “victims” it’s sucked. I was so hopeful it would be good. It’s not.

Riddled with inaccuracies

There is a main character who is so vile that listening to her is unpleasant. There are inaccuracies large (prestigious high schools are not given a hard number of admits they will receive each year from any highly selective admissions department) and small (Stanford does not offer ED, only REA). This book perpetuates the mania of college admissions while misrepresenting the process and how it actually works. But if you are interested in a story and are willing to suspend belief and just go with the flow, then it's not terrible. But it is NOT accurate and this should not act as a guide or handbook of any kind. It just doesn't work this way. Admissions are actually more humane than any applicant might imagine, especially when it comes to the most highly selective schools in the country, where applications are read with care by individuals who give each app the thoughtful attention it deserves.
