Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore comes the follow-up to Starlight Enclave and thrilling second novel in his newest trilogy, The Way of the Drow, expanding the Forgotten Realms through the adventures of Drizzt, Catti-brie, Jarlaxle, Artemis Entreri, and Zaknefein…and a society of drow unlike one any elf from Menzoberranzan could possibly imagine.

There’s a lot that Jarlaxle doesn’t know: Is he the lone survivor of the raid on the slaad fortress, can he even find a way to get out, and beyond his immediate predicament, could he possibly escape the ice caverns and get help for his friends?

However, what Jarlaxle does know is that if he plans to come back—if Catti-brie, Entreri, and Zaknafein are to have any hope of surviving—he’s going to have to bring back far more firepower. An army of aevendrow seems unlikely, so he must go home and pull together a team with great skill and unimaginable power.

But how will he get home? Will such a collection of warriors and mages come to his aid? And even if he manages all that, will it be enough? For Jarlaxle has seen the slaadi’s power and their god in a most personal and terrifying way.

Trapped in the ice while the world is on fire, Jarlaxle is in a race against time—and burdened with a magical secret—to save a peaceful city and his companions.

And he’s running out of tricks in his bag of holding…

A Nail to the Head.

You can literally hear Victor rolling his eyes, thinking ‘how many times have I’ve read this exact same story?’
Part 1: The Companions are lost and feared dead. Too horrible to contemplate (contemplated ad nauseam);
Part 2: Dearest friends of The Companions refuse to believe that their dearest and most wonderful friends are lost and dead (the horror);
Part 3: The Companions are alive! But they’re in big trouble and in desperate need of help;
Part 4: The Companions are saved! But after the battle someone is missing and feared dead.
(Repeat parts 1-4)
Pedestrian writing. Corny dialogue. Cliché plot.
You’d likely be better off taking a nail to the head than listening to Glacier’s Edge.

All good things come to an end…except for this

First I want to say that I have been a fan of these stories for decades. It has been a great pleasure to follow these characters on their journeys. However, these journeys are no longer fun or interesting. A review I read basically called all of this new writing fluff. There are no stakes and the good guys always win in the end no matter the odds. I understand as the fans understand that no company will ever end a money maker. So this will continue perhaps until Salvatore stops writing. Until then we will all keep reading the next installments with zero expectations and reminiscing about the good ole days of the past adventures of the companions of the hall.

Cringe

Too abrupt is the acceptance of such a cultural shock for the dark elves that it just had me in disbelief from the beginning.

Final battle is epic!!

I am a big fan of the Drizzt novels. The politics of Menzoberranzan gets to be a little dry at times but not so much as in previous novels. The final battle was amazing.

Good story

Slow. I wish the Menzoberranzan arc wasn’t cut off so abruptly. Otherwise really good listen

EPICNESS! All the big players come out hella epic!

Loved it when the mighty king dwarf and his tiny companion, the clever halfling, momentarily used their other companion, a tall massive barbarian, for an ice sled! A familiar hell boar trailing right behind them! The mercenary leader's reaction while witnessing it was way too funny! Of course no one saw that comeing, especially the huge human sled and even more so... the small and very shocked riders. lol

I loved this book from start to finish. It was amazing to get to know new characters and see how the story developed around them and existing characters.

Mediocre at best

I have read all Drizzt books since I first discovered them around 20 years ago. Either R.a.Salvatore has gotten lazy in his writing and doesn't put effort in evolving the characters, or I have become too old for this extremely basic level of fantasy. However I think it is the former since re-reading earlier books doesn't feel so...juvenile. End of the line for me. Plenty of great fantasy novelists out there.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much Drow scheming

About 30% of the book is completely unnecessary. I actually napped a couple of times.

Outstanding

This series is one of the best of the Drizzt books to date. The huge amount of rich characters, stories lines, and excellently written and then read on the audio book. Loved it!!!!

fantastic

Salvatore has done it again, such a good book I finished in only a couple of days with some great scenes at the end! The only bad thing is that I have to wait till the next book is out!
