Police lieutenant Eve Dallas had no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Okay, I'm officially addicted to this series now
STORY (suspense) - I listened to one of the later books in this series and liked it enough to try Book 1, then this Book 2. I must confess that now I'm going to attempt to listen to the whole humongous series in order. Yes, it's that good. It's set somewhere around the year 2050 in New York, so there are some cool futuristic gadgets. Eve Dallas, the main character, is a young police lieutenant who is dedicated to her job. Her romantic interest, Roark, is a sexy billionaire. In each book of the series Eve faces a new crime, and in each book the romance with Roark progresses a little bit more.
This book, Glory in Death, begins with the murder of a famous female attorney. Her throat is cut as she is leaving a bar late at night on the wrong side of town. Why was she there? Had someone she had prosecuted in the past killed her out of revenge? Could it be her ex-husband? The story is fast-paced with great characters. First and foremost, it is about finding the murderer, but the romance between Eve and Roark is sweet and sexy and is a nice filler between the more intense scenes.
PERFORMANCE - Not only is this series well-written, but it's also very well-performed. Susan Ericksen does a wonderful job of distinguishing between characters and portraying their various emotions. Love the robotic voice she gives to the droids!
OVERALL - Great book! Highly recommended for anyone who likes this genre. Probably would appeal more to women since there's romance and the main character is female, but pretty sure guys would enjoy it as well. Eve has a bit of a potty mouth so be prepared for some F words and other expletives, but I wouldn't say it's excessive. The sex scenes are hot but they don't last long and aren't very explicit. The story stands alone and the mystery is solved within this book, but the romance between Eve and Roark continues...

Ericksen Steals the Show
I've only been hooked by one narrator before and that was Scott Brick. I considered Brick to be in a class by himself, that is, until I started listening to Susan Ericksen's narration of the Death series. Ericksen is every bit as good as Brick and possibly better. I've now purchased 17 Death books and have consecutively listened to 9 (putting nearly 30 others in my library on hold). Though all the stories take place in NYC, 40 years from now, Robb is not writing sci-fi. Though 2050's Earth-bound technologies and societal changes are believable, his very brief references to farming and resorts on planets, moons and/or space stations are not believable. Luckily, they're easy to overlook since all the action takes place in NYC. Though Robb's "who-Done-It" plots are well constructed and well written, they're totally dependent on the interplay between his 2 main characters, Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her Irish-accented, billionaire husband, "Rourke." Not only does Ericksen give them great voices and take them through an incredible range of emotions, she does the same with the entire range of both the ongoing support and story-specific characters. She does male voice so well, it's impossible to believe that there isn't an ensemble cast of readers. Perhaps the only downside in Robb's writing is the frequency and intensity of Eve and Rourk's lovemaking. While each encounter is beautifully written and read, the frequency of them stretches credibility of it. People who are so tired they can barely walk up stairs and so emotionally drained from seeing disemboweled bodies, do not make love and have multiple orgasms, 2 and 3 times a day.

Great Listen!!!!!!!!
Eve is at it again. Once again Roake is pulled into the investigation, because of his relationship with the woman that have been killed. Even though it is a little like the 1st book in that aspect, it is still different. With Susan as narrator this book just couldn't go wrong or be bad. She does an excellent job with the many different voices, especially Roakes. I would recommend this audio to anybody!! Would recommend also to read Naked in Death 1st. Just helps with understanding Eve's & Roake's relationship & their backgrounds.

That narrator was....
Sooooo dramatic. Her accents were off and she sounded very robotic. It was also hard to tell the characters apart because they all sounded the same. I don't know how long she's been at this but I am hoping she gets a lot better with more practice. If I hadn't enjoyed the storyline so much I would have stopped listening. I will not listen to another novel narrated by her. Time to ask the library to stock the entire series instead of just a few.

Eve Dallas In Death Series a must for everyone
I have read each of the books in the series now I am going back and listening to each book. It only gets better each character is perfect. The narrator has the voice and inflections and quirks of each character. This is an amazing series and it is read phenomenally. Great writing, great characters and great reading! It does not get any better then this!

JD Robb murder, outstanding reader
Futuristic setting for crime stories written by Nora Roberts as JD Robb. Engaging characters, fast paced and good in written or audio format (have both). Though not a graphic "adult" style, some scenes are unsuitable for children so don't listen in front of them.
The crime story in this book stands on its own, even if you have not read book 1 Naked in Death to get the full understanding of who the two main players. But each later book builds on these earlier books so it is best to read in order. Some things are recapped or referred to in this novel to help the story but does not bog you down in a long recap of events.
The reader is excellent. Several distinct character voices throughout the book, easy on the ears and well suited to this series. Will check out other items by this reader.

True Nora Roberts style
This is going to be a really good series - the story line is strong and the characters are believable "if you can assume living in 2050 somewhere" however the main focus to me is the relationship that Eve has with Rourke - you want to need hear more to see how this develops and how they are going to work things out.
Narration fantastic!

Showing its age
Would you try another book from J. D. Robb and/or Susan Ericksen?
Obviously a lot of people enjoy JD Robb's books, so I'm sure this was a anomaly, but I was disappointed in the predictability of the plot and the contrived situations the characters found themselves in.
What was most disappointing about J. D. Robb’s story?
The characters were shallow and one dimensional. I have read Nora Roberts and thought JD Robb lend a rich dialogue, and but these characters did not live up to my expectations.
What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The accents she uses were very good, but I didn't enjoy the way she made the main character sound. Instead of being likeable, she was whiny and abrasive most of the time.
What character would you cut from Glory in Death?
I wouldn't necessarily cut one of the characters, I would instead build more depth to their stories, and give more than one side to their character.

Early Days In Death
This is a very good audio production. As such it reveals the talent of both author and narrator near the beginning of their collaborative efforts. An extra bonus is how the story sets in place rich character interaction. These bonds will be cause for years of enjoyment on the part of the listener. I agree with a friend that one part was very graphic. But it is the sort that any romantic heart would long for and enjoy. Death however is less poetic. The authors descriptions are swift, the turns are sharp and the story will have your questioning your analysis. In the hands of this skilled narrator you will love Detective Dallas, see the face of Feny, and want the head of the killer on a poke. Either that or you’ll discover you are as zoned as a chemihead, If you have a heart this early JD Robb book will touch it. Else consider this your annual psych eval.

Just love this book
If you could sum up Glory in Death: In Death, Book 2 in three words, what would they be?
Funny, exciting, romantic
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favourite characters are Roarke and Eve. Shame I can't afford to just buy every book one after the other or I would. Cannot recommend highly enough
Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I love Susan Ericksen as a narrator. She does distinctive accents and you can tell easily who she is depicting. She is a very clever audio reader.
Any additional comments?
I'm not usually a fan of romance. I read and listen to crime but the romance in this book is so different. I just love it.

I am a man and this book is written by a woman, with mostly women protagonists, and, from many points of view, for women. There is a strong Rom-Com vibe in there. Still, the intriguing style of writing, the outstandingly good reading... I like it. Good is good.

Fantastic
Loved this book, just as good as book one, love Eve Dallas. The Narrator Susan Erickson does an amazing job. I don’t think I can just read them, it would t be the same for me without listening to Susan Erickson.

Book Two
Rourke and Eve are living together after he had a copy of her apartment, desk and all to entice her to stay. A murderer is on the loose after a Prosescutor was killed in the dead of night in a rough neighbourhood. Then the same type of murder took out a young film star. The hunt was on, so Eve asked Nadine an ace Reporter to put Eve front and centre to entice the killer to aim for her. Susan Erikson the Narrator does an excellent job of reading this second book of J.D. Robb Death Series so you want to hear more of Eve and Rourke life.
