Story
In the beginning, God created Adam. Then he made Eve. And ever since we've been picking up the pieces. Loveology is just that - a theology of love. With an autobiographical thread that turns an audiobook into a story, pastor and speaker John Mark Comer shares about what is right in male/female relationships - what God intended in the Garden. And about what is wrong - the fallout in a post-Eden world. Loveology starts with marriage and works backward.

Story
"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

We live in a time when our culture is becoming increasingly shallow, coarse, and empty. Radical shifts in the areas of sexuality, ethics, technology, secular ideologies, and religion have caused the once-familiar landscape of a generation ago to be virtually unrecognizable. Yet rather than shine as a beacon of light, the church often is silent or accommodating. This isn’t a new phenomenon. During World War II, pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was deeply troubled by the compromise in the German church.

But what if there's a better story than shame? What if there's redemption so complete that there's nothing left to hide? What if there's a God who can heal your resentments, fears, and loneliness in such a profound way that you feel whole?

During our chaotic times, discover five forgotten values that can spark internal growth and help us reconcile our Christian faith with the complexities of race, sexuality, and social justice. Most believers live in the state of "being a Christian" without ever being deeply formed by Christ. Our pace is too frenetic to be in union with God, and we don't know how to quiet our hearts and minds to be present. Our emotions are unhealthy and compartmentalized.

This is your wake-up call to resist the Hustle culture and embrace the slowness of Jesus. Our culture makes constant demands of us: Do more. Accomplish more. Buy more. Post more. Be more. In following these demands, we have indeed become more: More anxious. More tired. More hurt. More depressed. More frantic. What we are doing isn't working! In a society where hustle is the expectation, busyness is the norm and information is king, we have forgotten the fundamentals that make us human, anchor our lives, and provide meaning.

Best-selling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God - we misunderstand his holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news.

What if Jesus came not to help people escape the world but instead to restore it? It's Not What You Think tells the familiar stories of the scripture in a radically new light, presenting God's unchanging truths from the Old and New Testaments as the challenging story that it is: a mysterious, compelling narrative with God at the center.

Great Read
- By Janette Hartmann on 12-10-15
By: Jefferson Bethke
Publisher's Summary
God Has a Name is a simple yet profound guide to understanding God in a new light - focusing on what God says about himself. This one shift has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way.
In God Has a Name, John Mark Comer takes you line by line through Exodus 34:6-8 - Yahweh's self-revelation on Mount Sinai, one of the most quoted passages in the Bible. Along the way, Comer addresses some of the most profound questions he came across as he studied these noted lines in Exodus, including:
- Why do we feel this gap between us and God?
- Could it be that a lot of what we think about God is wrong? Not all wrong, but wrong enough to mess up how we relate to him?
- What if our "God" is really a projection of our own identity, ideas, and desires?
- What if the real God is different, but far better than we could ever imagine?
No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, the act of learning who God is just might surprise you - and change everything.

The father’s heart
I believe I was one of those who think of the father as the grumpy old man who poured out His wrath on His son Jesus whom to me was the more loving and fun one; even though I believed they are one I somehow found it easier to think of Jesus than God the father because I just didn’t know how to view Him and relate to Him. Now my mind is stuck in Exodus 34 and I think of Him being deeply compassionate and merciful towards me ! Thank you for opening my eyes through this book. I gave one less star for overall because I did not like how the author used examples of different places in a way that encourages the continuation of certain negative stereotypes against places. I am an African and I felt maybe this book was meant for an American audience but well I read it and it blessed me but I do not like the image of sorcery for example being associated with the entire African continent. It does happen there in some countries just like it does anywhere else in the world but it is not a representation of what all Africans or African nations practice, as a matter of fact there is more active Christianity in Africa now than in the west.

The first half was an interesting take
However, by the second half it’s nothing more than a nauseating reiteration of everything that is Christian culture. I understand the call to be uncompromising. But there is an undercurrent of just trying harder. Christianity in its truest form should just be as natural as breathing. John Mark Comer… in such tiring fashion, once again uses typical language to disembody that which deserves to remain truly spiritual, and turn it into something that can only be achieved by the most contrite and socially acceptable form of the the holy young Christian family getting everything right and proving It to their community. It just reeks of a life of enjoying petty conveniences gained from a place of utterly common Christian success.

Love the wrestle that leads to worship.
In a time where truth is regarded as relative, and the catch cry of the world is ‘You do you’ … I am hungry to know God, not more about me, or how I can be better, but who He is. God has a name rings true for me, it revels in the knowledge of God, and wrestles through hard questions with an awe and wonder for the God of the scriptures. I am grateful for JMC’s love for scripture, modern yet ancient… His voice is easy to hear, modern and conversational.
