In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

In the book that he was born to write, provocateur and best-selling author Christopher Hitchens inspires future generations of radicals, gadflies, mavericks, rebels, angry young (wo)men, and dissidents. Who better to speak to that person who finds him or herself in a contrarian position than Hitchens, who has made a career of disagreeing in profound and entertaining ways.

Story
Richard Dawkins' brilliant reformulation of the theory of natural selection has the rare distinction of having provoked as much excitement and interest outside the scientific community as within it. His theories have helped change the whole nature of the study of social biology, and have forced thousands to rethink their beliefs about life.

Story
The Blind Watchmaker, knowledgably narrated by author Richard Dawkins, is as prescient and timely a book as ever. The watchmaker belongs to the 18th-century theologian William Paley, who argued that just as a watch is too complicated and functional to have sprung into existence by accident, so too must all living things, with their far greater complexity, be purposefully designed. Charles Darwin's brilliant discovery challenged the creationist arguments; but only Richard Dawkins could have written this elegant riposte.

Publisher's Summary
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.
With eloquent clarity, Hitchens frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and reason, in which the heavens are replaced by the Hubble Telescope's awesome view of the universe, and Moses and the burning bush give way to the beauty and symmetry of the double helix.
Complete and unabridged edition, narrated by the author.

I wish I could have known you
Impressively researched, eloquently delivered and thought provokingly contextualised. A brave demonstration of freedom of expression and even braver attack on censorship. If atheists had an order of beatification, the author should be remembered as St Hitch.

Shame we're left with his brother
The way in which he makes his points should be a lesson to all writers. The depth of knowledge and lived experience in relation to religion means he really knows what he is talking about and in an age of charlatans professing to be experts it really is wonderful to hear someone who knows what they are talking about

Wit, Charm, knowledge, delivered in dulcit tones.
I could listen to Christopher Hitchens all day (and indeed have on occasion). I miss the arsenal of encyclopedic, historical political knowledge he drew on to exquisitely articulate his arguments. Love his ironic wordsmithery.

Thoughtful intelligent viewpoints
As someone with differing views to the Author ( in as much as not everyone with religious views is against other Faith's etc )
I found the book thoughtful, insightful and that valid points was raised, while still ( mostly!) respecting other people who disagree with his point of view.
A very good listen

Brilliant
A brilliant dissection of the absurdities, hippocracies and atrocities of religion, and a call for a new enlightenment of rational thought. Great to listen to Christopher Hitchens reading it himself, although a little marred by his variable pace as he often rushes sentences that deserve to be heard clearly and digested.

Beautifully written and orated
Christopher brought his A game with this book. His abillity Effortlessly beautify the English language is second to none.
The topic of the book is personal to me having had religious experiences as a child growing up in Liverpool harmonise with my current understanding than an all seeing eternal farther who judges you even after death.

The brilliance of Hitchens
Exceptional book written with intelligent, open standpoints that give clarity to Hitchens perspective in an entertaining yet thoughtful way. Coming from a childhood dominated by the fear driven control of a Christian religion (my experience) I only wish I could have listened to this as a teenager. I find Hitchens whole manner to be driven by a genuine desire to reflect truth, facts and science to better educate the world in spite of religious zealots. His purpose is clear to give us the chance to make an informed choice for our life based on real understanding rather than fear driving it. Loved the book.

Striking
Very difficult to argue against Hitchens take on how religion has a negative effect on so many lives.
He is a great loss to live and to the argument against any kind of fanaticism.
