Story
On November 10, 2008, Dr. Eben Alexander was driven into coma by a disease so lethal that only 1 in 10,000,000 survive. Seven days later, he awakened with memories of a fantastic odyssey deep into another realm that were more real than this earthly one - memories that included meeting a deceased birth sister he had never known existed. Dr. Alexander deployed all his knowledge as a scientist to find out whether his mind could have played a trick on him. In its shutdown state, there was no way it could have.

Glimpses of Eternity tells us that family and friends are often swept into the firsts moments of their loved one's journey from this life to the next. Dr. Moody calls these "shared death experiences." This is the first book to talk about this beautiful aspect of our spiritual connections with one another. Entire families gathered for a loved one's passing all see a bright light from an unknown source. Some witness a gentle mist rising from an unknown source. Others tell of accompanying a family member halfway to heaven.

Despite our advancements in science and medicine, death remains one of humananity's most glorious mysteries. A handful of doctors have written books on phenomena such as near-death experiences, but research and data is scarce on pre-death experiences. Because of this lack of information, Dr. John Lerma has devoted his career to compiling anecdotal and scientific research on pre-death hallucinations from the countless terminally-ill patients he lovingly cares for as a doctor and director at The Medical Center of Houston, Texas.

Publisher's Summary
Based on the largest near-death experience study in history, involving 3,000 people from diverse backgrounds and religious traditions, including nonbelievers, God and the Afterlife presents startling evidence that a supreme being exists - and there is amazing consistency about what he is like.
In his best-selling book Evidence of the Afterlife, Dr. Jefferey Long showed us that there is a strong scientific case for life after death. Now he goes further, revealing evidence that God is real. At the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, Dr. Long studied the stories of thousands of people who have journeyed to the afterlife. Though there are a wide variety of differences in how people experience NDEs - some see a bright light, others go through a tunnel, still others experience reviews of their lives - he discovered that many of the accounts shared a remarkably similar description of God: a supreme being who radiated love and grace.
Expanding on his analysis begun in Evidence of the Afterlife, God and the Afterlife is the first intensive exploration of the people who have reported going to the frontier of heaven and meeting God and have returned to share their journeys. Groundbreaking and profound, it provides new insight into the human experience and expands our notions of mortality, offering possibility, hope, and comfort.

Fascinating stories of seeing behind the veil...
I loved this book! The way this book was written was how I thought “Evidence of the Afterlife” would have been written-with more case studies as examples. It gave me a deeper understanding of the book and filled me with hope. The stories were so fascinating and gave so much deep insight.
My nana recently passed away in May and that’s what got me started on this path toward this book. I’ve always been fascinated by NDEs and nana had actually had one in 82’ or 83’- not long after she married Papa. She went into anaphylaxis when she took medicine that had never caused an allergic reaction before. She left her body and could hear Papa begging her to stay with him. She ended up on a fence. One side felt amazing but she was drawn to the other side which led to being back in her body here on Earth.
I feel a lot more at peace and hope knowing she’s up there in Heaven and I’ll see her one day! I’ve always had strong faith in Christ so I wasn’t surprised to know He’s very much alive and real. The book just confirmed it further.

Interesting but a bit light
Would you listen to God and the Afterlife again? Why?
Probably not. It was interesting enough to listen to – NDE subject matter is fascinating almost without exception – but I felt this book didn't really contain any substantial insights that I would not have previously thought. Hence, I'm unlikely to re-listen to this book, although I would recommend this to anyone interested in NDEs.
What other book might you compare God and the Afterlife to and why?
This very much felt like the part II to Jeffrey Long's first book, Evidence of Afterlife, and indeed, this very much is the part II.
What does Walter Dixon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Clean performance.. it was appropriate for this book; an annoying reader can destroy an otherwise good book. But since this book didn't really have "characters", there was only so much a reader could do.

Somewhat compelling
There are some compelling and profound instances of NDE’s in this book, but the work itself it extremely repetitive. Several hours of saying the same thing, which I guess is good from a collective human experience standpoint, but for an individual listening to an audiobook, it sounds like filler. Also, how is it that every single solitary person that encountered God, labels God as “he” or “him”? It makes you wonder about cultural bias and what might really be going on with that. Other than the light, the beings are either asexual, or described as male. It just makes me think that maybe some of these experiences are brains at work in compromised states, still holding onto social conditioning. I don’t know. I believe in other realms. For me though, this book just brings up more questions than answers.

Awesome Bold Witnesses
Why is the greatest command to simply love one another? Because God is the very essence of love! All law is fulfilled in true love. Love does not keep count! The many testimonials of this book are amazing and spot on to me because I had my own NDE Friday morning April 5, 2019. I believe God allows these events to happen as part of His witness in the earth. Especially when He knows you're not ashamed of the gospel. Amen.

Robotic NOT Hypnotic
Oh my goodness, I seriously want to like this book but the audio is SO hard to listen to. The narrator is SO f*cking ROBOTIC. In a subject where there's an innate sense of intuition and a great need for empathy the narrators voice cuts through the body and mind being able to relax and experience, let alone absorb and learn. Personal opinion.

Stories like these changed my life so positively-
Dr. Long has been doing an amazing study on NDE and bringing forth stories on his site NDERF and through this book is life changing. I do wish Dr. Long was narrating it though, he's got such an awesome voice and when you hear him telling the stories (he's been on many radio shows and podcasts) his passion, excitement and his knowledge flow through and increases the joy from what he's learning and teaching!

Interesting stats on people who experienced "God"
Actual data collected from numerous Near Death Experiencers is considered here with regard to those people who experienced "God"
Here, though, "God" is not a bearded old man sitting on a throne, but comes in many forms that - no matter what the form experienced - is still described by the respondent as "God" or the creator, or the source, or even by one as "The Big Cheese"
The statistics are considered as a whole, and then broken down. Interestingly, the experience wasn't predetermined by a person's belief system before the NDE. And, even if someone was a "believer" before their NDE, that didn't mean they were going to experience "God" and even "non-believers" could have the experience.
The book is a great analysis of the reports gathered, by using questionnaires. The numbers as a whole and their percentage breakdowns are discussed, analyzed, and there are also dips into various individuals stories of their encounter with "God" and their experiences are shared within the book.

Not a book, just someone reading stats.
I want a refund, this was the audio equivalent of watching paint dry, except you expect watching paint drying to be boring. Instead of stories about people’s near death experiences, you have to listen to someone rattle off statistics regarding a study about near death experiences. It’s ridiculous.

What have you got to lose?
This is a book worth listening to although the phrase “NDErs” must have repeated hundreds of times. It all made sense to me and I was fascinated by the repetition of how many people experienced the same thing. If you have wondered, like me, if there is a God, then what have you got to lose.

Shallow, repetitive, yet worth listening to
I'm glad I listened to this book, although it was repetitive. It mostly consists of recounting snippets of people's own NDE accounts and trying to find common ground with other accounts, it feels a little shallow at times. I would have liked to have heard more detail of individual experiences and how the NDE changed them and their beliefs. But overall still worthwhile. I listened at speed of x1.75 which made the repetition bearable.

Breathtaking! Stay with it
I started reading this book after finishing a couple of Raymond Moody's books. Dr Long has his own style of telling the story, very scientific based, I can sense he is a medical doctor. It was a slow start, as Dr Long was telling how he constructed his research. This was important part, as it shows how credible the findings are. It gets better, each chapter tells about specific feature of NDE and at the end he sums up the finding. The best part was encountering God and how he is described by NDErs. This is the most beautiful part. Narrator's voice was very pleasant, soothing, articulate and clear. The book had some parts that were very complex to understand, but narrator made it for me to stay with it. Very calming, pleasant voice. I will absolutely recommend anyone to read, especially anyone going through bereavement and also sceptics and atheists.

Good story but the narrators voice is extremely annoying! At first I thought it might have been speech to text software as it sounded like a computer.
