Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

The poems of the Poetic Edda have waited a long time for a modern English translation that would do them justice. Here it is at last (Odin be praised!) and well worth the wait. These amazing texts from a 13th-century Icelandic manuscript are of huge historical, mythological, and literary importance, containing the lion's share of information that survives today about the gods and heroes of pre-Christian Scandinavians, their unique vision of the beginning and end of the world, etc.

Publisher's Summary
The official novelization of the brand new game
His vengeance against the gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive...and teach his son to do the same.
This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series - satisfying combat, breathtaking scale, and a powerful narrative - and fuses them anew.

Fantastic Story, Fantastic Performance, but
Alastair Duncan gives a fantastic performance so no gripes about this. Though, at one point he does have to switch between saying "Balder" and "Boulder" in rapid succession, which don't sound different at all when he says them.
The overall arch of the story is fantastic. A father and son journey filled with trials and tribulations.
Now for the 'but' portion of my title. This is a novelization of a video game, and you can tell. Fights are described in few words, scenery description is short, and pacing accelerates rapidly toward the end, often missing descriptions which would be welcome. A novelist brought on board to better transcribe the Barlogs' vision to prose would have been as amazing as the action in the source material.

Only for fans of the game thirsty for more content
It offers a bit more info than the game, but that wouldnt be relevant to anyone but the most hardcore fans, but at the same time leaves out a lot of story you would ogherwose experience in the game. Alistar Duncan is a great narrator and his voice acting for Mimir was awesome but other character just wrong, especially hearing Kratos with a scotish accent. Overall I enjoyed it, but when I will want go hear the story again I will rather play the game.

A perfectly retold, epic adaption of the game!
From game to pages, God of War, as told by Mimir's very voice actor, quotes scenes nearly verbatim, conjuring images and characters just as they were in the interactive version. The narrator keeps a voice very near to Mimir's own, yet is still discernable from the character's voice, although impressions of Brok and Sindri pale slightly. Other than that, little to no other complaints were found.
If you are a fan of the game, or wish to experience the story without picking up a controller, God of War is a fantasy epic story, sometimes hartwarming, sometimes brutal. There's something here for any mythology, or fantasy fan.
Let Ragnarok come forth.

a recap of the game, but doesn't flow as well.
the performance is stellar, though it really does a poor job captuing the adventures and stories that take place in the game. I feel it should have been a series of short stories about various legs of their journey as opposed to trying to have a straitforward narrative through the critical path. maybe cut in with various tales of the Norse God's and/or Greek gods or kratos's past between mainline stories. still, excellent game recap.

Masterpiece
J.M. Barlog sure knows how to vivify the story in the game and narrate it to such an extend of reality.
And Mr. Duncan's performance takes the leap from the reading to the imagination of the user so smoothly, one can feel the actions of the characters develop in front of you.

God of War Review
I enjoyed playing the God of War games since the very beginning. The story of Kratos defined the Greek tragedy. Now he story continues in the world of the Norse myths, I can't wait to see want happens now. I found this audio book and hoped it would go into more detail about the world. it is basically a retelling of the game in book form. some of it felt rushed since as boi falling ill. if you're are fan, I would say give this a go. but I think the games are fair better when it comes to the story of Kratos, the God of War

Performance was great, shame about the story
First off the reading was excellent on this book, despite his best efforts the story was still fairly lacking. The description was weak at times and failed to describe the gravity of the situations that Kratos gets into.
I'm sure this writing style works great when emphasised with visual effects of the video game but as a book it was really lacklustre and I had to force myself to persevere and finish this title.

Alastair Duncan was an inspired choice.
"Read by the guy who voices Mimir" was all I needed to hear to buy this instantly and I was not disappointed. Follows pretty much the story of the game, so some serious spoilers if you haven't finished it yet, but it's well written, well read and well worth listening to.

Short but True
While shorter than most, the story is an excelent retelling of a videogame. This I mean as both a criticism and a compliment. Most of the voices are well done, except a noteable 2 in Broc and Freya.
and the story really rockets along with plenty of well paced action and a slow build of personality.

I had already played GoW before I listened to this novelisation, and found it wonderful.
Alastair's reading of the book made it seem much more authentic, like a tale being retold as opposed to a script. I absolutely adored the way the story portrayed Kratos and Atreus, and their relationship.

Nice
I haven't played the game but I can easily imagine how the game would have played by how the story was described. There were a few times where it wasn't clear that the setting has changed and the story moved to the next part. Maybe this would have looked like just a bigger gap in the paragraphs of it was written. A few times, the description of what is happening in the scene is hard to understand. The narrator performed very well, even if a Scottish accent isn't particularly appropriate when the story is about Norse gods. I guess the characters were pretty accurate, although the character flaws, especially with Kratos, can be irritating. It was enjoyable enough.

glad it was free
The story itself is very very dry, and delivered at such pace it just becomes noise. The narrator while clearly talented has an accent so at odds with the story it constantly knocks you out of the story.
