Publisher's Summary

Every earl knows the one lady he shouldn't seduce is his best friend's little sister....

Lucy Waltham is hunting for a husband, but she needs some target practice. She turns to her brother's cold-as-ice best friend, Jeremy Trescott, the earl of Kendall, to test her seductive wiles on him before setting her sights on another man. But her practice kisses spark a smoldering passion - one that could send all her plans up in smoke.

Jeremy has an influential title, a vast fortune, and a painful past full of secrets. He's always kept a safe distance from his own emotions - and from Lucy, who wears her heart on her sleeve. But to save his best friend's little sister from certain heartbreak, he can't stay at arm's length anymore. Their sensual battle of wills is as forbidden as it is delicious. The closer Jeremy gets to taming his temptress...the nearer he comes to losing all control.

Contains mature themes.

narrator almost ruined it for me

loved the story. I'm a huge fan of Tessa Dare and I always love her female leads. I also love that no matter how many of her stories I read they are all different. the only downfall was the narrator. she has this lisp that was distracting to me, almost to the point of giving up on listening to it at all. it could totally just be me but I could never quite tone it out. it's better sped up, which is how I listen to them, but still there.

GREAT til Ch. 26 (Warning & Reason for 3 Stars!)

I've love this author & series....but a WARNING to any woman survivor of sexual abuse &/or rape (yes, some of us have endured both, as children & later by husband(s) we loved)...CH. 26 has a part that if the Narrator would've just used a different tone of voice, it could've been a scene of GREAT love & caring, but instead, to a survivor, sounds (is) like a rape by a man the woman loved! What a HUGE disappointment! I couldn't take it emotionally. I LOVED the 1st of the bk & recommend it, but women w/PTSD MUST be WARNED! Mixing that horrible anger with love-making equals rape & may be ok for some women if they request it & like kinky sex, but for Survivors who've actually endured similar situations they did NOT request, do NOT like, nor want, it will push a PTSD button! It did with me!! After the scene the man looks @ the bruises, ripped clothes (a/k/a VIOLENCE!) he did to her, thd bruising between her legs "where he'd rutted like a beast", his WIFE(!), feeling "so bad" after. Any/ALL Survivors KNOW how men apologize & buy gifts after beating, hurting, raping (yes, even their own wife they say b4 God they'll cherish & honor!), & how in most to ALL cases abuse escalates to worse abuse & doesn't stop. Plz put my Warning out there. I almost returned the book JUST for this ONE PART! For now I'm skipping past it to hopefully get thru the last hour of the bk - I WAS enjoying. Very disappointed!

Story Dragged On

I made it to chapter 9 and had to find another book. The narrator and the story line just dragged on and on. I kept waiting for something important, exciting, anything, but finally decided it was time to find another book. Don’t waste your money or credit on this book.

The worst Tessa dare novel that I've ever read...

...and I've read most of them. Insipid and unlikable female lead, amateur writing, awful storyline, and it drags on for ages. Truly her worst novel. I love her work normally, so this was an abject disappointment.

Decent

I enjoyed the first half of the book, it made me laugh. But after some parts, the amount of miscommunication was unbearable to listen between the characters. And I began skipping at that point and I rarely do that.

Goddess of the Hunt

This is the first time I've ever been disappointed in a book from Tessa Dare. I think this must be one of her earlier works. It's tedious and just failed to capture my attention or imagination. I don't think it helped that the narrator was just mediocre.

This should not discourage anyone from trying many of her other works. My favorite is either "Any Duchess Will Do" or "Girl Meets Duke". She's a clever, funny, skilled writer. This just wasn't her best work.
