Publisher's Summary

In 1993, Andrew Brunson was asked to travel to Turkey, the largest unevangelized country in the world, to serve as a missionary. Though hesitant because of the daunting and dangerous task that lay ahead, Andrew and his wife, Norine, believed this was God's plan for them.

What followed was a string of threats and attacks, but also successes in starting new churches in a place where many people had never met a Christian. As their work with refugees from Syria, including Kurds, gained attention and suspicion, Andrew and Norine acknowledged the threat but accepted the risk, determining to stay unless God told them to leave.

In 2016, they were arrested. Though the State eventually released Norine, who remained in Turkey, Andrew was imprisoned. Accused of being a spy and being among the plotters of the attempted coup, he became a political pawn whose story soon became known around the world.

God's Hostage is the incredible true story of his imprisonment, his brokenness, and his eventual freedom. Anyone with a heart for missions, especially to the Muslim world, will love this tension-laden and faith-laced book.

The Why in Suffering

Really enjoyed the narration and the poignant story of a missionary pastor wrongly accused and caught up in a political drama within Turkey.

Outstanding

This book detailed one man’s journey in faith.
The best part of this book is the transparency of his life. He does not fail to share his real struggles. It is not about his faithlessness - it is about the real struggle a Christian can face. And that is what makes it such a good book to read if you want to know if God is real. Because the Christian God says believe in my Son and I will never let anyone take you out of My hand. This is that story. Of a big God who sees one real man who belongs to Him ...because of Jesus.

Raw and Vulnerable

Andrew is brutally honest! It’s so encouraging to hear of God’s perfect leadership despite intense trauma, pain, and heartbreak. For those who find themselves in a valley of some sorts this book is for you. Our HOP prays for Turkey and the church there every Thursday 10am now.

grateful reader

Pastor Brunson's story was harrowing to live through, yet such a blessing to hear. so many of us prayed for him so this is a first hand account of answered prayer. it was especially meaningful to hear his account of God's sovereignty and faithfulness, even when he felt nothing but despair. Highly recommend!

A Moving and Beautiful Testimony of God's Grace in Extraordinary Hardship-and Opportunity to Glorify Jesus!

After having just heard Pastor Andrew Brunson (and his wife Norine) speak eloquently and movingly in Dallas this week, I was eager to dive into "God's Hostage"! This book's true story is jaw-dropping and had me on the edge of my seat! It profoundly moves, impacts and inspires me to go even deeper in my Christian faith and to trust that every trial and difficulty has purpose-and will reap eternal rewards. Be prepared to weep as I did...I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who wants to follow Jesus more closely and courageously. This book is a life changer!

A very honest persecution story.

The author is very open and vulnerable about their experiences. Not recommended for small children.

A test of faith

Andrew Brunson endured 2 long hard years of imprisonment simply for being an American Christian in a Muslim nation after a failed coup attempt against the president. His story weaves politics and religion while demonstrating again that God’s faithfulness is not tested through our adversity but ours is.
