Publisher's Summary

Picking up from where his first memoir left off, Dr Tom is back with more of his gloriously eccentric stories. Still based as a locum in his beloved Scotland, he now takes time out from the surgery for stints as a medical researcher, travelling wherever he is called, from Rio to Jerusalem, Vienna to Singapore.

Part memoir, part travelogue, Going Loco takes us on a dizzying journey around the medical world - from the challenge of a make-shift surgery in the African bush, to the terror of smuggling beagles into Amsterdam on behalf of a global pharmaceutical company. We encounter extraordinary characters on the way - impossible patients, brave souls, and more than a smattering of crazy doctors.

Something's wrong with the recording.

Would you try another book from Tom Smith and/or Tom Smith?

Yes. We'd especially like to finish this one!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Going Loco?

The part where we realized that we'd already heard what we were hearing. approximately 7 hours and ten minutes into the story.

What a life!

This book really blew me away! Some of the information was so shocking, and most of the anecdotes were either heart warming or hilarious! I will buy the rest of his books as well as listening to this one a few more times! His life and journeys chronicled here are truly amazing!

This title may or may not be derived from 'Locum'.

Ah the new English words we American readers get to learn! They are all found in wonderfully told tales by Dr. Tom Smith! I'm pretty sure that the title is a double entendre, i.e. 'Loco' as in crazy and 'Loco' as in locum! You'll have to read his first book or this one to find the meaning of locum (unless you are from his side of the pond). I totally loved the transition from country doctor to locum. I'll try anything written by Dr. Tom Smith...in my book he's up there with the best of the storytellers!

Wonderful!!

I've so enjoyed Dr. Tom's stories, wonderfully read by the man himself. His humble courage in the face of the unpredictable world is marvelously heartening. From tears to belly laughs, this and his first book are well worth a listen. I'm onto the third now.

Great story from “the old country”

My husband and I have travelled in Scotland & Northern Ireland on several occasions. It has been very interesting to listen to this and one other book by this author, and especially when read BY the author! His stories are well written, very interesting and contain enough funny stories to have kept us smiling and chuckling throughout. His description of Rio De Janeiro is exactly as I found it to be when I was there in 2007 to minister to street children - what a horrible state of affairs & existence!!! We both highly recommend books by Dr Tom Smith!!

A Delight and informative read!

This sequel to Dr. Tom's first book, A Seaside Practice, is just as excellent!
He is an extraordinary storyteller of his interesting and varied medical experiences.
A real joy to listen and read.
I would have love to have him as my GP!

Too many calamities

I loved Medic On The Moor. I enjoyed reading about their quaint village and the simple quirky life of the villagers. This book, however, went from one calamity to another - like a James Bond novel. I didn’t care that genre. Too bad...🥺

Cracking read

I loved this book as much as the first. The author has an easy listening style in both the writing and narration, and a knack of putting a humorous slant on his many adventures. Can’t wait for the next instalment.

Another great book read by Dr Tom.

Love this book and the others in the series. Dr Tom telling the story makes the tales come to life. I want to visit all the places he does as what he makes me picture in my mind is wonderful. His medical tales are really interesting, and well balanced between the hilarious and the serious.
