Publisher's Summary

Darcy was 24, living with her parents, and struggling to make her student loan payments. So, when she heard that Grace Space Independent Consultants make $40 per hour, she could hardly wait to sign on the dotted line. That signature launched her into a crazy adventure full of embarrassing blunders, kooky characters, and sidesplitting laughs, and it's not long before she starts to wonder if the purple dream is too good to be true.

A charming story with an excellent message........

Grace Space is a charming story about a young woman fresh out of college, Darcy, working as a waitress, living at home and hoping to start her adult life as a teacher. She has the misfortune of meeting a Grace Space (a direct marketing sales company that specializes in cosmetics) representative, and Darcy quickly gives into the allure of the promised riches. What ensues is a tale of Darcy basically drinking the cool aid for six months until she finally wakes up to the reality of this manipulating pyramid scheme. Luckily, along the way, she meets many genuine friends, rediscovers her faith and religion, and falls in love. Merrill skillfully uses foreshadowing to keep the listener glued to the story, needing to find out what would happen next to poor Darcy. As she says in the very beginning, this story has a happy ending and some truly hilarious and equally sad moments. Overall, this is a delightful book.

Rebecca Winder does a terrific job with the narration. She has a sweet and young voice that perfectly matched Darcy's somewhat naive personality. Her slight accent was very enjoyable and soothing, and this production couldn't have been more pleasing.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

A lighthearted Saturday read!

If you’ve ever had experience with direct sales then this story will be extra fun to listen to! But even if you haven’t, the story is so well written that you get thrust into the world of “pyramid schemes” and all the quirky characters that come along with them. Everything about this book is cozy, lighthearted and endearing. The narration gives Darcy a naive & sweet personality that I felt such a connection to by the end of the book. The best part is that all of the characters are flawed & real, and that goes along with the side characters as well. Gertrude is a particularly fun gem of a character who thankfully got her own spin off series (Gertrude Gumshoe).
The book keeps you entertained from start to finish & leaves you feeling happy at the end. Highly recommend it!

Cute Story

I thought this story was very charming. It could have been a bit longer, I think. The ending was not quite as satisfying as it could have been. But very entertaining story that was well-narrated.

A Quick, Quirky Read

I got this book via audiobook boom. This story is about the adventures of a direct selling woman who wants to make money. Anyone who has tried direct selling knows what this means. You meet all kinds of people who treat you in all kinds of ways. That being said it is not a story I would lean toward. The main character is snarky with a humorous twist. But if you are selling something then you have to find your inner good person and let them out every time you meet a potential client no matter how obnoxious they are.

Money & Makeup

Convinced that selling makeup at in-home parties is a great way to become rich has more drawbacks then imagined. Think "Avon" and "Mary Kay" with a tyrant as a team leader and you have "Grace Space". This is a quick and funny story that shows how easily you can be drawn into the clutches of terrible boss lady.

Humorous

I found this book by Robin Merrill a very humorous depiction of attempting a direct sales job. I mean most of us have been approached at some time in our lives to become a part of this and the real attraction is either free products or lots of money and it's always dependent on how many others we can recruit. This story highlights what can go wrong and how it might change relationship dynamics but it does it in a very humorous way.

I listened to this on Audible and enjoyed the narration by Rebecca Winder.

Cute, funny story with truthful insights!

This book does not have a deep message (or does it?) You decide. Believable—but a little eccentric—characters. Easy to listen to. Narrator did an excellent job. Perfect story for Audible “read.”

A well-written blend of fact & fiction

Grace Space: A Direct Sales Tale (Audible Audio), my thirteenth read from author Robin Merrill. Gertrude, from Gertrude Gumshoe fame, is a supporting character. Rebecca Winder's narration makes the read pass quickly. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Entertaining

What an entertaining story...Sad to know some direct sales groups are like that. Motivates me to not be that way and prove to be better.
