Publisher's Summary

The first book in the wildly popular series of horror/comedy novels featuring Andrew Mayhem!

When you’re desperate for money, searching for a little adventure, and aren’t the most responsible person in the world, you can end up doing some outrageous things. Which is how Andrew Mayhem, a married father of two, ends up accepting $20,000 to find a key - a key buried with a body in a shallow grave.

But what he finds in the grave isn’t quite what he expected, and what begins as a simple evening of morally questionable manual labor turns into a really good way to die. Andrew finds himself investigating a murder while forced into a bizarre game of wits and courage played by an unseen killer with a twisted sense of humor. It’s a game that will involve him with a group of filmmakers known as Ghoulish Delights, who are hiding a secret that will test every last bit of Andrew’s nerve to discover.

And it’s impossible to find a babysitter.

"No author working today comes close to Jeff Strand's perfect mixture of comedy and terror." (Cemetery Dance)

Tried to get through it.

This book started out so strong, and I was so excited. But it quickly turned into what I felt like was the author trying to be funny/quirky every single sentence. What started as funny became annoying. Its a shame because the kind of humor in the book is really good, its just supremely overused.

If you have the same problem, or even if you really liked this book, also go try "Tales From The Gas Station". I found that was a bit more thoughtful with the comedic moments while still being a strange horror/thriller title.

Grave Robbing Requires Experience

I thought this was a great story. Totally unique and really bizarre. Just an incredible chain of events that leads a normal family man to do crazy things in crazy situations. Anyone familiar with Strand's work knows that he is an excellent story teller and each of his stories will keep you on your toes and glued to your earbuds. This story was no different as the mystery of who is pulling the strings and what Andrew will do next to solve it without letting his wife know and constantly trying to drop off his kids.

Andrew was a great main character. He is snarky and witty and provides the humor that cuts through the tension and keeps you wanting more. I enjoyed the other characters and felt that they added to the overall comedic feel, not the same way Andrew did but they allowed him to play off their actions and emotions well. I do hope Andrew learned his lesson and will settle down and get a real job after this, unless of course there is a sequel.

Just like many Jeff Strand books, you don't know where the story will take you and you are better off unplugging and just enjoying where the ride takes you. At no point was I expecting what was coming next and at no point was I disappointed. I definitely won't be digging up caskets without a pistol of my own from now. Strand is an excellent writer and is able to pull you right into his stories and put a shovel in your hand while you dig a grave and try to earn some extra cash.

I have been a long-time fan of Joe Hempel’s narration and coupled with the great story telling of Jeff Strand, you get a book that you can't stand to put down. Hempel provided, as always, a narration that brings you into the story and provides the right amount of emotion and personality to each character.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Action Packed Comedic Thriller

Graverobbers Wanted No Experience Needed is an action packed thriller with a lot of comedy. Nobody mixes action horror/thriller books with comedy quite like Jeff Strand does, so much fun! Joe Hempel does an outstanding job as the narrator.

Pretty darn good

I intially got this book because I love the author. The synopsis sounded pretty good so I gave it a try and I got to say I was pleasently suprised. It started out a little slow, but definitely picked up after the 1st hour. It reminded me of a old school crime noir with some elements of the movie saw thrown in. In conclusion, I definitely reccomend giving this book a chance.

Meh.

I'm sure the story would have been riviting if it had been read by a less-monotone narrator, but I couldn't bring myself to even finish it.

Nice who done it.

well written and narrated. enjoyed the story but it's a pretty basic who- done- it story. the writer has a good sense of humor, but it could have used some extra plot twists or unexpected outcomes. worth the listen anyway.

boring generic "Saw"

I struggled to finish it, tge characters lack depth, and the story is very simplistic. This book is like a generic version of the Saw series.

Not your normal Horror story Hero

This book was a lot of fun. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting. It had similarities to Saw at times but still left me guessing who was the killer. I would recommend to any horror fan that enjoys a good mystery!

Dark, twisted and comical!

I wasn’t really sure what kind of story I was hearing as I went through it, as it starts off almost comical and slapstick which had me thinking it was all a prank, but it pretty soon takes on a dark side.
I’m not sure the MC’s reactions are 100% believable in those situations, but it certainly made for a good story!
Did I figure it out? Nope and I’m not going to give a spoiler here, but definitely worth a listen!
Well narrated too with great character voices.
I’d definitely listen to more from both author and narrator.
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.
