Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Story
Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France. Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist.

Light on details, format constrictive
Although it gives an overview of Greek Mythology, which is very dense with history and mythos, I found the structure a little constricting. Every section began with "birth," "dramatic events," etc. Good voice artist. There was a mysterious insert of music (?) for many of the chapters. It was jarring and unclear as t what it was supposed to be. If it was meant as a dramatic interlude to set up the next chapter, it had the opposite effect. It took me out of the narrative so much that I nearly left only a 3-star review for the performance. But that wouldn't be fair. I would consider re-engineering/re-recording this book and take those distracting bits out.

Colorful God's Turned Grey
Mythology provides us with some of the richest stories of the ancient world. They hold us captive with their characters and pull us into a world bigger than our own. I have listened to many books about various cultures mythological world, and this one was the most dissapointing by far.
I was hopeful at first when the writer lays out a small pantheon of gods and gives us their history and factual surroundings. However when it gets to the stories revolving around these gods, the writing remains black and white and boring. The characters are not given personality but rather depicted as soulless stones living out a dictionary. The reader does not help this problem at all.
Aside from dry writing and reading, I find some issue with the stories actual facts. Given the mythological catalog holds a LOT of variations on the same stories, some of what I heard in this book was nowhere near the version other books portray. I'm not saying they are inaccurate but I would have liked if he gave any other reference to other accounts like most others do. Alternatively, it would have been nice if he had supported his version by explaining where it came from and given some support to why his stories were so different from others.
Dissapointing read and won't do it again.

FASCINATING INFO ABOUT GREEK MYTHOLOGY!
I only knew the "bare minimum" about Greek mythology before listening to this audiobook. I enjoyed it!! There's tons of info about all the Greed Gods & Goddesses and their stories. It's not "everything you wanted to know," but an intriguing and thoughtful glimpse into why these figures have so captivated us throughout history. Very enjoyable read, and loved the narration also :)

Greek Mythology
This book is chalked full of information on Greek Mythology. I heard some different takes on stories that I've heard before. I just really don't get tired of it. Some of the stories seem to vary, which many texts will tell you. Possibly because the stories were told from generation to generation over the thousands of years. But, the basics of it are the same. At some points, it sounded a little repetitive as though perhaps there were headers that were repeated in normal written form. But, otherwise, good information on a favorite subject.

Incredibly dull treatment of interesting subject
Keeping in mind that I have a degree in religious history: stay clear. I find the subject matter very interesting, but the writing and narration here is simply dull, which is impressive in a way, given the myths in question.
It might serve as a lexicon for the myths, but that’s missing a lot of the point in listening to them.
I recommend Stephen Fry’s version if you want an entertaining and comprehensive treatment.

I really didn't enjoy this book. There were mistakes and the author repeated information throughout the chapters. I also was not a fan of the narrator, Madison Niederhauser, who felt quite flat to me.
