Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Story
Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France. Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist.

According to the Greeks, there were many gods and goddesses in ancient Greece. These gods had control over many aspects of life on Earth. They were, in many respects, quite human. They could be friendly or nasty, enraged or happy, harsh or loving. They fell in love with one another, fought with one another, and even stole from one another.

Fabulous! Highly recommended
I’m about 2/3s of the way through the book. I cannot stop listening. Before choosing this book about Greek Mythology I read countless reviews and summaries on other similar books. Some I sampled and didn’t care for the narrator’s voice. Others the reviews were too mixed for my liking. After listing to sample of this I just felt like it would be a good listen. I think the author does an amazing job of describing the different gods and goddesses. Not an information overload but good stories of each one. I could follow everything with out “spacing out” or feeling lost. The narrator does a phenomenal job as well. Sometimes all it takes is a bad reader or voice to make you loose interest. I would rate this as a 20 star if I could and highly highly recommend the book to anyone looking for a good listen and learn about Greek Mythology. I cannot praise it enough.

too much story about heroes
Very good narrative. But the story is a bit boring in the second half. Big part of the second half is entirely dedicated to Hercules and the Trojan war, which are way too long and boring.

I feel like this should have edited out the mistakes. Do not buy the great courses is better an every time the narrator messes up he clicks his fingers and starts again. It’s not even like this is a cheap book. Audible has really gone down hill lately

Waste of a credit
This is fine for the kiddies. They probably won't even notice the mistakes in narration. Has more in common with Tanglewood Tales than a serious study (which the cover thumb nail leads one to expect).
If you want something to listen to while you are doing the housework, okay.
If you want a more in-depth studt, stick to Robert Graves, et al.

Good but to much inappropriate stuff
I like the book a lot and it teaches you a lot about Greek culture and myths. However, I hate the fact that it is inappropriate in some bits and it uses the words seduce, seductive, lay with (someone) and an inappropriate word that I cannot even say so if you hate these words than you should reconsider buying the book but in general it is great.
