Publisher's Summary

Over the course of the past few decades, Allen West has had many titles bestowed on him, among them Lt. Colonel, U.S. Representative, "Dad", and Scourge of the Far Left. He rose from humble beginnings in Atlanta where his father instilled in him a code of conduct that would inform his life ever after. Throughout his years leading troops, raising a loving family, serving as Congressman in Florida's 22nd district, and emerging as one of the most authentic voices in conservative politics, West has never compromised the core values on which he was raised: Family, faith, tradition, service, honor, fiscal responsibility, courage, freedom.

Today, these values are under attack as never before, and as the far Left intensifies its assaults, few have been as vigorous as West in pushing back. He refuses to let up, calling out an Obama administration that cares more about big government than following the Constitution, so-called Black "leaders" who sell out their communities in exchange for pats on the head, and a segment of the media that sees vocal Black conservatives as threats to be silenced.

Now more than ever, the American republic needs a guardian: A principled, informed conservative who understands where we came from, who can trace the philosophical roots of our faith and freedom, and who has a plan to get America back on track. West isn't afraid to speak truth to power, and in this book he'll share the experiences that shaped him and the beliefs he would die to defend.

Inspiring and heartfelt.

I had heard of Allen West and read some of his articles before listening to this book. I thought I had an idea of what he stood for and how he came to be who he is, I was slightly off.
This is an amazing man with values and standards to be admired. I don't agree with him on all aspects, but his reasoning is logical and stands up to argument.
I recommend this to anyone who is on the fence or has negative thoughts toward him. I will support this man if he chooses to run for any higher office, he is logical and thoughtful of his actions and their repercussions.
Great listen, even better since Mr West reads it himself, you can really hear his emotions.

There's Hope

It's beyond refreshing to listen to a man of principle and honor speak sound logic and reason about the condition of our government, and how to redeem it.

We Also Dream

Allen West here makes his case for a return to conservative governance in America. Starting with a brief auto-biographical section, in which he establishes his black conservative roots as well as his membership in the noble warrior class, Allen West proves that he is a far cry from his contemporaries in the leadership of the black community. His is the voice of reason, espousing the principles of limited government, personal freedom and private property rights; elements which he rightly identifies as the principles of modern Conservatism, which he explains has its origin in Locke’s Classical Liberalism. In other sections of the book West explains the history of the Socialist movement, both here and abroad, and how Marxists have re-branded themselves as Progressives here in America. This is a good introduction to conservative thought and will help spread the message that we are allowing government to erode our freedom piece by piece. The fact that Allen West is both a Conservative and a black American will insure that he remains a polarizing figure, and thankfully, for that very reason, that his message of reason finds a wide audience.

More preaching than personal

Was hoping for a more personal story of growth but he wraps his life up in 3 chapters. After that he is moreso preaching politics. He mentions faith but after going through it I don't know if he is Catholic or Christian. All that said it still a fairly good message. Very clear organized and straightforward
