Publisher's Summary

An aura of mean-minded resentfulness is thick in the streets of Ankh-Morpork. Insurrection is in the air. The Haves and Have-Nots are about to fall out all over again. The Have-Nots want some of their own magic. But magic in the hands of amateurs is a dangerous thing.

The City Watch is the last line of defence against such unnatural goings-on. But when even the Watch have trouble telling right from wrong, you know that law and order ain't what they used to be. But that's all about to change.

Critic Reviews

"Pratchett has a masterful ear for dialogue, a keen eye for the ridiculous, and a real feel for language." (Time Out)

MASSIVELY ABRIDGED

Why doesn’t this say it’s massively abridged? The description in the Audible app doesn’t mention. It’s so chopped that it often hardly make any sense, all the Pratchett language is missing so what is the point? Such a pity because Tony Robinson is the perfect narrator.

Abridged

Abridged to the point of being nonsensical. False advertising to boot. I'd rate it lower if I could.

Classic

Love it. I read the physical book many times over the years, so there were a couple of bits missing, but such is the way when books are converted to audio or video. Tony Robinson is always my goto narrator for discworld, highly recommended as a great start to discworld.

Guards! Guards!

Wish I'd bought the unabridged version. Narration was very good but I didn't feel the story flowed well and I feel a bit cheated by the price.

Disappointing

Lets be clear from the start, I am a fan of the Discworld series and have read all of them at least once; most I've read countless times. I get the audio books so I can listen to them in the car to work (each way is conveniently one CD long).

This abridged version leaves a lot to be desired. Tony Robinson's delivery is poor, and the editing of the story seriously detract from the original. Having read (and love) the book I spent the entire time listening to this thinking 'hang on a mo what about.....'

If this were given to me as an introduction to the series I doubt it would have gone any further.

Personally I would stick with the unabridged versions which are far closer to the originals - Nigel Planer's recounting is good, Steven Brigg's is superb (seems to be the only person who has read the books - he knows that Carrot has a Welsh accent!)

Should've looked better...

By mistake I bought this abridged version. Such a waste! All books become a useless annoyance when abridged. Shame, for the wonderful true book is an absolute wonder. Buy the real thing, it is a guaranteed delight.

A different hero's journey.

Loved it. Enjoyed it. Highly recommend and cannot say enough positive comments about Terry Pratchett and his skills as an author. Love the Discworld.
