Publisher's Summary

Escape to the Gulf Coast of Florida with Georgia Carpenter as she gets a second chance at life, love, and happiness.

In the middle of an awful divorce, 53-year-old Georgia Carpenter finds herself out of luck, time, and money. Then her phone rings with the news that her great aunt has died and left her a cottage in the Gulf Coast town of Blackbird Beach.

Georgia has no idea what awaits her on the other coast of Florida. All she knows is that she has nowhere else to go. And no reason to stay where she is.

Fortunately for her, life has far more interesting plans than she ever could have realized. Including making the acquaintance of a handsome handyman and getting the chance at a brand-new start.

Like Walking Across a Treadle Platform

I dunno about this one. The plus is it’s a great fantasy for women who find themselves divorced after a quarter century of marriage. Who wouldn’t want an Aunt to bequeath them not one but three fabulous houses right on the ocean. To go from homeless and contemplating life in a car to outright owning three desirable beachside properties, in a quaint coastal small town, all within the blink of an eye? Suddenly you have a very nice roof over your head and you don’t have to pay a dime for it, and a fat checking account to go with it? Yeah. The premise is irresistible. That’s where it ends.

I am not a fan of three narrators. Why was it necessary? It’s not like they each voiced the dialogue for a single character - (that approach would have been much better) - no, all three of the narrators voiced all three of the main characters and each one gave each character their own spin. It comes across as disconnected. This isn’t a negative opinion of the narrators themselves, each was fine on their own and it would have been better to stick with just one of them for the whole story, and then allow the others to voice the books that follow. Even that approach would work, but not as it is. Sorry narrators. Not your fault, but production’s.

The writing was painful in places. Not deep enough into the thoughts and motivations and too heavy handed with the dialogue. You don’t need to write every “Bye!”, or “Thank you!”, or describe how they went upstairs to the linen closet to get clean towels. Achingly dull.

I’m going to listen to the next book. This one ended abruptly like they took a meat clever and judged where the middle of the story was before giving it a whack. If it has the same problems, I won’t finish it but I’ll at least give it a chance. I don’t think this is one of those cases where an author completes a book, then allows the lessons from writing it age a bit, before starting the next complete book. Wish me luck.

Sometimes vanilla is good

Vanilla story with dry, stilted dialogue. Perfect to turn my brain off. Definitely going to listen to the next one.
Speed up if not planning on falling asleep to it.

Forgettable story, forgettable characters

Dumb, just dumb.

Not objectionable, but I will not be reading another in this series.

Not a book! An Intro

I love real book series! But this is not. i hate when a book, which is supposed to be a whole story, is just divided into several parts, just to make you buy the next part or parts. Basically nothing happens in this book. it's just a set up for the story which you need to buy. but I won't because I won't waste credits on a 5 hr. book or 2 credits on 2 5 hour books that should sell be one book for 1 credit.
The narrators had good voices for there role. But nobody speaks that slowly and distinctly. The scripted conversation was natural enough. Just the speaking was not. it sounded like someone was telling a story to a child. I sense the narrators were probably competent. but since they all spoke that way, perhaps it was the way they were directed.

Wholesome Story

Each book is like an episode in a tv series. You have to listen to all of the books to get the whole story.
It’s a very wholesome story. Not a hot romance kind of story. Nothing more than a few kisses in each book. Narrators did a great job.

A good book for background lists ing

I like to have a book going while I am doing other things. This one fits the bill. A story for people of a certain age - which can be hard to find.

Most boring book I’ve ever listened to

If you want to spend hours and hours on a book where absolutely nothing happens and there isn’t an ounce of conflict till the last 30 minutes, this is the book for you. Glad it was free but I won’t be moving on to the next ones. Feel duped.

Bland and monotonous

There is zero excitement until the very last sentence of the book, a cliffhanger trying to pull me to read the next book for sure, but I can’t bring myself to even attempt the second. It’s like I just spent every minute of every day with these three characters, there was no truly interesting banter or anything. I honestly don’t get why this has so many good reviews.

Meh...

this book felt very Hallmark-y... Ideal local, women down on their luck, hunky handyman in a towel. Miraculous inheritance falls into a woman's lap...All too good to be true. It was predictable, and a good listen if you want something you can listen to without really needing to pay attention.
probably won't even listen to the others.

WAY TOO MUCH DETAIL

The writer used way too much detail in this book. It's almost like the writer was at a loss and just added detail to fill a page. Also, I don't like male narrators who try to imitate women. Not all women sound whiney. lol.

A different kind of love story

Normally you'd have love stories about young couples but this story is based on an older characters who've been married and divorced (or in the process of it). It is one of the feel good kind of story. At the end tho, it feels like it ends abruptly to the point it makes you say "That's it?", but luckily there is more books continuing the story and all of them are included free with the monthly subscription. So, you don't need to wait a month or spend extra to continue.
