Publisher's Summary

Ancient Greece is a place where mortals are the playthings of the gods but at the core of each city-state lies a Labyrinth, where mortals can shape the heavens to their own design.

When Theseus comes away from the Labyrinth with the prize and his beloved, the Mistress of the Labyrinth, his future seems assured. But she bears him only a daughter and when he casts her aside for this, the world changes. From that day forward, the Labyrinths decay, and power fades from the city-states.

A hundred years pass, Troy falls, the Trojans scatter. Brutus, the warrior-king of Troy, receives a vision of distant shores where he can rebuild the ancient kingdom. He will move heaven and earth to reach his destiny, but in the mists is a woman of power who has her own reasons for luring Brutus to these green shores.

If Brutus makes this journey successfully, it will be the next step in the Game of the Labyrinth, and the start of a complicated contest of wills to span the centuries.

Critic Reviews

"In this dazzling start to a new trilogy, Australian author Douglass once again combines mythology, fantasy, magic and romance to produce a consistent, well-rounded story full of seriously flawed characters both abhorrently evil and enthrallingly empathetic....Douglass continually surprises, and readers will eagerly await the next two books." (Publishers Weekly)
"Sheryl Bernstein brings fortitude to this saga." (AudioFile)

wonderful

i'm not sure why this doesn't have a better rating. i thought the writing was excellent, and the plot is fresh and exciting. i also really enjoyed the narration.

i highly recommend this to fantasy fans, and i for one am looking forward to the sequel!

love love love

I've read the entire Troy Game series and loved them! I was really looking forward to listening to the series for the first time but for whatever reason this is the only book available???
I know its not for some but the characters all grow and develop further in the rest of these books. Cornelia is a stupid woman/child who is superficial and shallow but she will become a strong confident selfless woman. Brutus is exactly what his name suggest, a brute. He will have to learn humility. Genvissa is a character you love to hate then later hate to pity. Asterion is made out to be the villain but is actually another victim who will eventually have a great roll in correcting the "heros" mistakes (he becomes my favorite! )
if you are like me and want the rest of the series available on audible we need to request them! They are:  God's Concubine, Darkwitch Rising and Druid's Sword.

Slow start

This book is overall pretty good. The problem with it is that the author takes so long in setting up the story and the characters that you are likely to become bored before things really take off. However the ending leaves you wanting to know where the next book will take the story.
I hope that the publisher creates an audio version of "God's Concubine" which is the next book.

Enjoyable listen. I hope the other books in the trilogy show up on Audible soon. I enjoy books (like this one) where you get to know multiple characters as opposed to books where each chapter is focused primarily on the main character.

Hade's Daughter

A good listen. Little slow at first but once you get into it a good story with future potential for sequels.

Don't bother

Sorry, I thought this book was Really Bad. I could only stand to listen to an hour or so, so maybe it gets better, but I found the character development non-existent, the plotting thin, the historical research lazy and the interest generated nil. Don't bother.

Couldn't finish

I am afraid that this book was boring, the characters shallow and hard to care about, and the action too drawn out. The idea behind the story was great, but I suffered through about 3/4 of the book and finally moved on to better things. I was disappointed because I normally really like this author.

Love this trilogy!

One of my favourite authors is Sara Douglass. And this would have to be my favourite trilogy, I do hope that Audible consider completing this set of stories. It gets better and better.

Great book!

All her books are fanatics and this one isn’t any different. I think it’s a bit mean they only have the first in the series as an audio book...
the reader was pretty terrible with men’s voices
