Story
Five years have passed since Angie Favorite’s mother, Laura, disappeared without a trace, and Angie still hasn’t recovered. Sure, things look normal on the surface — she goes to school, works her summer job, and argues with her older brother Jason — but she can’t shake the feeling her mother didn’t leave by choice. Angie’s dad does the best he can, but his work as a musician keeps him on the road and away from home, where it’s up to Angie’s grandmother to keep an eye on the kids. She can’t be with them all the time, though, and so Angie is alone when she’s snatched from a strip mall parking lot by Scott Bittner. Angie narrowly escapes, and Bittner is arrested, but he takes his life in jail before he can offer an explanation for his crime. When his mother makes contact, begging forgiveness on her son’s behalf, Angie agrees to meet with her in hopes of finding answers to the seemingly random attack. But when she arrives at the massive Bittner estate, she is overcome by an unshakeable sense of foreboding… Part thriller, part coming-of-age tale, Favorite is an engrossing young adult novel in which nothing — and no one — is as it seems.

Story
In A Scattered Life, Karen McQuestion proves to be an adept chronicler of unforgettable female characters. Poignantly written, she thoughtfully examines how women love, learn, and come to accept themselves and others, as well as life’s often harsh realities of deception and loss. Skyla Plinka has all she could ask for - at least that’s what her mother-in-law Audrey thinks. On most days, Skyla agrees, yet there’s a part of her that longs for her free-spirited days before husband, child, and the humdrum life of rural Wisconsin.

Publisher's Summary
From best-selling author Karen McQuestion comes a moving novel about broken hearts…and what it takes to put them back together again.
At nine years of age, Logan Weber knows the routine. Keep quiet, make the food last, and don’t ever cause trouble. He’ll do what it takes to evade the rages of his troubled, violent father. Even though he’s only a child, Logan already knows too much - has seen too much.
So when the opportunity presents itself, Logan runs. He has no idea where his journey will lead, or that the grandmother he’s been told is dead is desperately searching for him.
Alone with no home of his own, Logan looks for a safe place to hide. Relying on his instincts and the kindness of strangers, the boy manages to touch the lives of everyone he meets. But his innocent heart cannot survive in the adult world without the most basic human need of all: love.

A Grandmother's Quest
I absolutely loved this story. The characters believable and narration was stupendous! At first glance this appeared to be a very straight forward story, but it was crafted so the reader became aware of all the back stories of the supporting characters. The character's interactions with the child in the story adds depth and brings an entirely different dimension to the story. Karen Mcquestion always brings her best and most creative self to everything she writes. Another must-read@

Oh my!
I loved this story. I did work my way through a box of Kleenex but they were happy tears. I usually stick to gruesome mysteries etc. but took a chance on this one. I totally “binge listened” and was surprised at myself. But as I stated previously, I loved the story. Also, I wonder if the author was at one time a Speech Therapist, I was and was amazed at the accuracy with which she described the room etc. Great job!!!!

Lovely little feel good tale :)
Sometimes I just want a story where good things happen to good people and the bad guys get what they deserve. This is that kind of story - happy ending to a story of a grandmother searching for her grandson and multiple characters exploring the meaning of family. It’s not particularly complex or deep - just a sweet story of family love - like curling up with a teddy bear and a warm blanket :)

Enjoyable? Not if you've lived through it.
DNF. Although I got this book through Kindle, I'm frankly tired of authors exploiting the subject of abused children and violent alcoholic parents in order to make sales. If you grew in up in such a situation, these books could be a trigger. They might not be "enjoyable" at all. If it were the author's truth, a memoir, yes -- this would be acceptable. Otherwise, please stop... there are far too many people living with trauma. So it has a Hallmark happy ending. Ask yourself: how often does this happen irl?

Cruelty, A Brave Boy and His Grandma Nan
When Logan Weber’s mother died, he stopped speaking. His world changed. And life at home with his father got worse and worse. He had no idea that there was someone in the world who still loved him, wanted him. His drunkard of a dad had told him she was dead. When Logan is more afraid of his father than what he faces in the outside world, he runs. He’s only nine years old, but he’s smart and God sent his guardian angels to watch over him. The story of who he meets along the way is amazing, and how Logan impacts their lives and the decisions they are contemplating is evidence to me that God never wastes our experiences, good or bad. Logan’s run is a harrowing experience for him and the others involved, yet this tale is one of victory. When I first began the audio book, I thought it sounded like a book for young people or teens, I was wrong. The longer I listened, the more I knew that it was for adults, all of us that needed to know and hear just what goes on in the heart of a frightened child. Bravo! Excellent story and an ending that I did not see coming, but well worth the wait!
