Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Albert Jenkins and his friends have enjoyed several months of peace, which is why when a Rosengul spaceship crash-lands into his new house, he's not exactly surprised. From the wreckage, a pair of ordinarily reclusive small Rosengul emerge and spin a tale of kidnapping and deceit. Of course, AJ, not always the most sensitive, asks the pertinent question of how that involves him and his friends. The simple answer is that AJ and crew have developed a reputation of getting things done, probably because his methods skirt Galactic Empire rules.

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
An increasingly crippled Hank struggles to keep the various factions of Belvaille in check after the collapse of the Colmarian Confederation.
Hank, as Supreme Kommilaire and Secretary of City, has several hundred police to try to maintain order among the millions of inhabitants on the space station while simultaneously preparing for Belvaille's first ever election.
He thinks it is an impossible task. Every year the city and even the galaxy falls further into chaos as he succumbs to the debilitating effects of his mutation.
With economic turmoil everywhere, a dirty election in the works, and the galaxy's foremost assassin hunting him, Hank has to decide if he can save Belvaille. Or if it's even worth saving.

Really funny
I saw other reviews that said that this book was good, but don't expect great writing. I disagree. The author writes the story from Hank's viewpoint, narration and all, and NEVER breaks character. Liam Owen's performance reading this book is so perfect that I found myself speaking like Hank throughout the day. He really understood the character and his delivery was incredibly funny. Better yet...this series continues and gets better as it goes along. I've read the first three books and can't wait til the others are available on audio.
Thank you to Steven Campbell, to Liam Owen, and to Audible. I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this series.

I'm embarrassed to say I love this.
This is without a doubt the worst piece of literature you're ever going to listen to. I'm beginning to believe that my spirit animal is a 12 year old boy. The narrator a poor man's Jerry Seinfeld, with bad timing. I cackle and guffaw for hours. Why? it's stupid I don't know why. it's lowbrow. it's Three Stooges crossed with Bugs Bunny. it's gory disgusting an infinitely hilarious. every time I download a hard luck Hank I question my own character.

Prince of Suck - Sucked a Little Too Hard
Time has pasted, across the universe civilizations crumble, and Hank is slowly solidifying. Abandoned by people he thought were his friends, left holding the bag of holding Belvaille together, and dying more often each day. Hank's life is really sucking. I know Hank's life is supposed to suck but I'm expecting vacuum cleaner level suckage and I got "Space, the Final Frontier" vacuum. I had a hard time finishing this installment because it seemed the story even had trouble moving against the extreme suckage. Unfortunately, there was nothing in the story that created enough momentum to break free of the story's suckage.
I just can't recommend this book to anyone. I mean I liked Hank, obviously, since this is the third book featuring him I've read, but I don't need to witness an unending series of depressing incidents dumping on poor Hank, I don't find it entertaining.

Compared to the first two...
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
If you're reading the series, then yes, but don't expect it to be as good as the first two.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The book seems like a really long series of gang wars; nearly the entire plot is wrapped up in the last two chapters. Very uneven.
Which scene was your favorite?
Hank being Hank carries the book.
Do you think Hard Luck Hank: Prince of Suck needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Hank is a great character. The first two books were great; this one, less so. Hank needs to get back to his hard-scrabble life of quasi-PI work.

Mixed bag of a story
Hank is now so big it isn't funny. He can't get off the floor or use toilets anymore. He's basically handicapped and just blunders through everything. There's a 78 year time skip from the last book so everyone from then is either old or dead. We don't even see Garm in person until about the last hour. If you like Delovoa then you're in luck because he's about the only character Hank banters with.
Belvaille isn't as interesting as it was before either. It isn't a squalid criminal underworld. It just seems to be a floating dump with Hank charging about trying to keep things together.
There are funny bits, and I did laugh out loud occasionally but this is no book 1. It's fairly slow paced throughout. Until the last hour this was going to be the last one I listened to in the series but then everything picked up dramatically and it got good again so... I don't know. Maybe book 4 can be at the back of my wishlist.
The narrator is variable. Hank and the Hank-voiced narrative are great but every other character is significantly quieter and on anything but an in-ear headphones they were inaudible without additional volume. But when you increase the volume to hear them, Hank becomes deafening.
Overall, it's not the worst book I've listened to this year but it's far from the best.
