Publisher's Summary

The steampunk adventure continues....

An ancient Egyptian artifact is driving Queen Victoria insane, and that's not top of Cara Devon's growing list of problems.

Viscount Nathaniel Lyons is a man of numerous secrets, but there is one in particular that threatens his fledgling relationship with Cara. Stunned by Nate's revelation, and before she can absorb the ramifications of his actions, he is arrested, charged with treason, and imprisoned in the grim Tower of London. He stole something the mad queen wants, and only has days to deliver, before his date with the executioner.

Although sorely tempted, Cara can't let him die on Tower Green, not when their connection means she would share his fate.

Only together can Cara and Nate figure out how to wrestle Hatshepsut's Collar from around the queen's neck, before she plunges Britain into a world war. The search for answers sends Cara to the opulent Winter Palace of St Petersburg and the frozen depths of Siberia, with every step shadowed by an enemy with his own dark plans.

Too much humpy-humpy; not enough hunty-hunts

I’m sorry, I tried, but the tedious smut just got too boring to try to wait for the story to reassert itself.
Pity...
The premise had promise and the characters had real possibilities.

Unhealthy romance but every thing else good

The romantic and sexual relationship of the main characters is distracting from the mystery which is very compelling. Their relationship is also at times disturbing and unhealthy. If the story spent less time describing their sex play (in which the male is always the dominant and near to forcing himself upon the female) and their attempts at seducing one another, I would’ve happily given this four stars. The narration is good. The characters are very interesting and the mystery is compelling.

Not much of a story.

Unnecessary pornography. Detracted rather than enhanced the story. Could have taken more time with plot.

Sizzling Adventure!

A fantastic book! A. W. Exley has given us a story of lavish adventure, exotic locations, harrowing escapes and sensual passionate love. Narrator Gemma Dawson has taken the story to a higher level of enjoyment by giving life to each character with their own individual voice and personality. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it.

I tried, but the porn overwhelmed the story

I gave up only a few chapters in. The porn completely took over the story and there was no sense in continuing. Hopefully there was an actual plot in there but I couldn't get past the smut. Aching balls and un-fulfilled sexual appetite really doesn't make for a good read. Why don't books come with ratings, and why was this book (and the previous) targeted toward teenagers??

Listen for the story

The story gets lost with the love scenes and sexual innuendo. Which is unfortunate since the plot is interesting. Probably won’t listen to the other books in this series.

Not your mother's steampunk

I loved, loved, loved the narrator. I've listened to Ms Dawson narrate other books, and she never fails to please me. I think I would be happy if she narrated the menu for me ☺ So that's the great.

The good, or okay, depending, is the story, if you can stand listening long enough to pick it out of the...

Oh my dear Lord, I didn't count on the sex, sex, and more sex. I'm not 100% positive what someone else would call it, but a passage or two, or three or maybe... strike me as what I've heard called "soft" porn. So, this is the bugugly.

if the author cut out the sex--oops, it's a short story, sorry--put in some fade to black scenes and treated what is supposed to be romance as if it was actually romance, the book would be 10,000 % better. The F* is actually a welcome addition in this book!

I'm about to read Moseh's Staff. I'm either brave or stupid.

Better than Book One

In this one, the second in the series, the sexual dialogue is much less, and the mystery of Hatshepsut's Collar is top on the agenda. I still see people complaining, but to my ears, this one has it right. Cara is still as sassy as ever. Lord Lyon's is still searching for artifacts, and has actually been in the Queen's employ . . . that is until she got mesmerized by the dreaded collar. There's a lot of weird and mechanical antics, which would never have actually happened in the 1860s, but I find them interesting. I particularly love Cara's grandmother. Hatshepsut's Collar makes me glad I didn't quit listening to the first book in the series, which I nearly did. Stick it out, these are different and fun.

Lovely story but long descriptions…

I liked the first book a bit more because it moved at a faster pace. This one is good but the descriptions of places were too wordy. It didn’t add to the plot so it seemed the writer was just stretching the story out like a high school essay. I think Nate is badass and I would have appreciated it if the author hadn’t made him such a milk sop for most of the story. As a crime lord, the only person who should know his inner turmoil is his wife (through their link). He was described as being cool as ice in book one so turning him into a hot puddle in this book was disappointing. Lastly, what happened to Cara’s pistols? Mr. Smith and Mr. Westin never made an appearance and there were times they would have been a perfect touch. I look forward to book three!

Sordid low grade porn.

This book is in the wrong section, it should be in erotica. It’s a terrible attempt at steam punk! Badly written, badly depicted marginal porn. No story line as such, so disappointing. Will be returning.

Loses steam quickly...

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was looking forward to the second. However, it seemed to lose steam after the first few chapters and becomes rather boring. Not alot happens apart for lots of dialogue from an array of characters that doesnt seem to progress the story any. I also got fed up of the monotonous, cringeworthy sex scenes.

Porn masquerading as historical fantasy

What a disappointment - I thought I'd try something new and was looking forward to a steampunk mystery/historical fantasy. Instead I got a series of tedious descriptions of ponderous sex scenes between the protagonists with nary a plot to be found. I gave up quickly.
Unless you're looking for 50 Shades of Grey in Victorian corsets dont bother.
