Publisher's Summary

When Lenodara the Hawkmaiden - Dara, to her friends - was made an apprentice to the foremost wizard in the world, Minalan the Spellmonger, Magelord of her native land of Sevendor, she thought that the adventurous life was behind her. She looked forward to a long, boring career of learning how to read and taking magic lessons...but Dara’s life as the Spellmonger’s new apprentice is anything but boring!

Within days of assuming her new duties, a goblin invasion in the distant land of Gilmora compels Minalan to gather his forces to repel it...and that means Dara, too. Her unique ability to use the ancient Alka Alon weapon, the Thoughtful Knife, may be the only way to thwart the invasion - and combat the dragons that have ravaged the castles of the land.

But the battlefield is just the beginning of her new adventure, and she finds the aristocracy of the city of Barrowbell is as challenging as a goblin attack. But new adventures lead Dara to new friends in the unlikeliest of places on her way to becoming the Hawklady!

Short, but great.

The writing is great! But these are 1/2 as long as the main series books, but cost the same.
The writing is still great! But the change has not gone unnoticed.

another page turner

I love that this series gives you a different angle and perspective to a story you already know without it being boring at all. the new insights you get are facinating and it let's the author develop minor characters from the main series with much more detail.
the only thing I would correct is that this narrator pronounces many names differently from the narrator of the main series, that is a bit jarring at times (maybe only to me, I am a bit pedantic at times ...) but that could easily be remedied I think.

I wish

I wish all three books were released at once like a Netflix series or an Amazon series there's no need to wait to get the books by the first one they're going to keep buying second one in the third one why make us wait it's an old model that needs to go away

She’s not John lee

I’m not a fan of the new narrators voices for the boys but it’s a solid addition to an amazing world. Love hearing the battle of Cambrian from the hawkmaidens perspective. And the extra bits we don’t hear about from min.

Cadet Series Audiobooks No More

I'm done...I'll just read the rest of the books in the series. The pronounciation issues make this performance just as hard to sit through, if not worse than the first. Also, why does Rondal sound like a dolt?

Very Entertaining

Second book in the series I have listened to. Since I have not listened to any other books by this author within this storyline under another narrator, I cannot tell whether or not that would have been an issue for me, as others have stated in their reviews. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far, and am looking forward to listening to the third bpok.

Narrator needs work

The story writing is still amazing. The only problem is the narrator. The character voices are absolutely horrible, and usually just blend together to the point you can't really tell who is talking (if any character actually is).

Good but language is off

The book is good and is a nice addition to the world, however although the narrators voice works well for Dara her mispronunciations of names and places etc from the main books is a very big distraction to the story.

Narration is awful

Finty Williams has no idea of the spellmongers universe! She should have at least listened to the Spellmonger read by JOHN LEE before embarking on narrating on any of theses fantastic books (POOR CHOICE AUDIBLE)!!!!!

She has most definitely never read or listened to any of the books, thus she has no understanding of the characters, their back stories or indeed their relationships with other characters. This comes through in awful abundance, distracting the listener with major miss pronunciations constantly.

Then there is her accents she makes Rondal sound as though he is illiterate and only half a brain cell yet he is the exact opposite.

To enjoy this great story and any other in the series read by Finty Williams I suggest reading them or YOU WILL BE SADLY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

great series

love seeing things from this perspective,
I wish the narrator listened to at least one of the original books for simple pronunciation continuity.
she wasnt that bad but no more then 3 stars
I kinda knew she would mess somthing up, I remember the way she butchered the little these song in the book 'the boy on the bridge' in that she didnt even try to find the melody in that it was embarrassing

A good follow up

I think if you enjoyed magelord and the previous cadet book - this is well worth a listen.

Don’t forget to buy the road to sevendor anthology to read alongside these books.

Young Hawk Maiden

Enjoyed finding out more about the Hawk maiden but found it quite youthful in its content and delivery there seemed to be a lot of repetitions too

Another good book from TM.

Almost as good as the Spellmonger series. The read was a bit slow for me, but played at 1.25 was much more enjoyable. Now for the next one.....

enjoy

you find this book so relaxing all due to the narrator.
I can't comment on the author as he already has written this series with perfection
I am waiting for the next book ,..,,..can I wait two months sob😂

pretty average narration

I have to admit I struggled with this narrator. She pronounced things differently to Lee in the main series and her inflection on words didn't match the mood in the text so it was difficult to get an Idea of the scene

Good book but in need of a better narrator

The story is a grate addition to the Spellmonger collection.

Unfortunately the narrator had not listened to any of the other books in the Spellmonger collection and pronounced a lot of common place, lead characters and words like magi wrong which is very distracting from the flow of the book.
