An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

Publisher's Summary
Do you need emotional healing after your spouse has been unfaithful to you? Are you looking for closure after the affair that broke your marriage? Would you like to restore your confidence and regain your self-worth?
If answered yes to any of these questions, keep reading, because you’re about to find what you’re looking for.
Dealing with marital infidelity can shake your sense of identity and your trust in people.
When planning a future together and vowing to be faithful, no one thinks they’ll ever go through these hard moments.
Yet some of us do and it can be a tough and shameful struggle.
But the good news is - even if you might not be inclined to believe this now - you can find emotional healing and closure.
You can and you will get over this. It won’t be easy, but it’s possible.
No matter if you’re looking to restore or end your marriage, one thing is crucial, you need to understand why the affair happened to be able to move on.
A study published in 2007 by the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, 31(2), conducted by Blow, A. J., and Hartnett, K. did a substantial review of infidelity in committed relationships.
The researchers were able to identify specific behavioral patterns associated with different types of infidelity to help prevent it based on certain key factors.
This way they made it possible for individuals to understand infidelity in the context of their relationship, which can help them not only overcome this but also avoid it.
This book has the tools you need to move on and find happiness again.
In this guide, you will discover:
- One essential truth you don't want to believe, that will help you start the journey of emotional healing
- How to decode your lover’s enigmatic behavior (so you don’t have to guess if they’re cheating or not)
- Why neither blaming nor taking responsibility will help you find closure
- How to restore your sense of identity and regain your confidence even if you feel utterly helpless and hopeless
- Practical advice on how to protect yourself from the legal and financial landmine known as divorce
- 10 valuable lessons everyone should learn from this traumatic experience (including how to avoid being cheated on in future relationships)
- The key to knowing if you should stay or you should go (and avoid wasting your time in limbo)
- How to heal, grow, and move on from your spouse’s affair without taking the blame for the actions they did.
- And much, much more!
Your spouse’s affair is not the end of the road for you.
Now’s your chance to make sense of this traumatic experience. Let it teach you some valuable lessons to take into your next relationships, and reclaim your happiness.

Shallow and simplistic
I’ve read many books and surviving and healing from an affair by a spouse and this is by far the least helpful. Cookie-cutter step-by-step approach to dealing with complex and soul wrenching issues. Some of the writing made we wonder if english was the author’s first language. I don’t believe all the 5 star reviews are genuine. This book reads like instructions for constructing a model airplane, not for getting through the most devastating and heartbreaking experience a person can go through.
