okayish

I guess this book was okay. If you really want to change your habits I would recommend Atomic Habits by James Clear. It's a much better read.

Dietitians opinion: this book could be dangerous

I have mixed feelings about this book. I am always critical to “fitness experts” writing books with no credentials, just sharing stories of things that have been successful for some people. The first chapter sets you up to believe you won’t be receiving too much critique or specifics, but instead will get overarching themes to success (which I love). Talking about the mental piece is usually under explored in other books. There was minimal mention of seeking out actual professional counseling from a psychologist, psychiatrist, or dietitian. There’s also NO discussion of potential extreme eating behaviors and their consequences (ie eating disorders). Then as the book goes along, it gets WAY to specific, setting people up for ultimate failure. “Don’t eat x grams of sugar,” “meditate for exactly 20 minutes,” these specifics are random and alienating. “Only eat when your hungry” is blatantly inappropriate, given that chronic dieting leads to hormonal imbalances that no longer send normal signals. Unfounded, unwarranted, and wrong.
To wrap it up: please read a variety nutrition books by a nutrition professional (RD, LD). This was like reading a book on cardiovascular surgery by a heart health enthusiast.

Awesome 👍

The author did an amazing job not only explaining how to be the healthiest you that you can be, but also did an exceptional job at making sure that you know that it's okay to fuck up and fall down. Not only did this book inspire me to become healthier but it gave me some good tools to use in order to become happier with myself. I very much recommend it.

Down to Earth, realistic and empowering.

I don't need to be told precisely how to reach my fitness goals - how to eat and exercise - I really needed help with the mental and emotional parts, which is the main focus of this book. It was a huge help all-around. Highly recommended.

Best book I've listened to in years!

I absolutely loved this book (so much so that I'm listening for a 2nd time). She's able to make building healthy habits relatable and isn't afraid to call out the bullshit we often sell ourselves. Changing our mindset around food from a "diet" mentality to a habit mentality is SO cruicual for positive change. Oonagh does a great job of showing how that shift is possible, and not nearly as hard as we make it out to be.

Shameless advertisement for the author fitness program

Look, I am too smart to listen to this. The author tries way too hard to be ‘cool’ by dropping some F bombs here and there and calling you dude. I tried to get useful information from this book for two chapters straight while on my morning walk. By the 15th time the author plugged her ‘online fitness program’ I angrily deleted the book from my phone. Advise to the author: readers are not stupid. Give us some credit. I would be much more inclined to try whatever program you are trying to sell if you just laid out good unbiased advice throughout the book without desperately trying to plug in your program. Mention it once if you want at the end of the book. If you did a good job showing that you know what you are talking about, I guarantee you would have a great conversion rate in getting people signing to whatever it is that you are offering online. But mentioning it 5 times in 2 minute is irritating and counterproductive.

realatable

I really enjoyed the book but also found it relatable. It is not one of those books that expects you to make a 180° change and maintain it for the rest of your life. Not everyone has the same goals and we all have to find the Balance between what we want and what we are willing and able to do. I’m really glad I got the book. It was worth the time.

Stupid, wrong and dangerous

Outright vegan propaganda piece. Irresponsible and actively harmful advice. Worthless epidemiology and discredited China study as a basis for all this nonsense. Avoid!

Fuck fuck fuck .... everywhere in this ebook.

I’m not offended by the f word, but come on this is too much in a diet book. Normally in the most unneeded places. Could really try harder...

Too many Fs, vegan and China study as keywords

If you are vegan, believe in the China study and don’t mind about many Fs in one paragraph, then this might be for you.

The habits she recommends are good, some of the stories about trashy TV are not for me, other stories are ok.

This book was recommended to me in my membership, I didn’t pay attention to the title.
I think there are too many unnecessary F words everywhere.

In general, I didn’t enjoy listening to this book.

Sexist rubbish.

It would be interesting to see the response if this was the other way around. If this book was written by a man the whole world will freak out.

If you are a male I seriously wouldn't waste your money.

very nice to listen to

This is a great book. even thought IT is clearly written for Woman, it is still great to listen to as a man. because us men also like getting a "You go girl" sometimes, and we also want to feel pretty and happy with our body.

Fantastically inspiring

I've tried all the ways to get fit and healthy. This book doesn't attempt to give any magical new fixes but aims to change the mindset, hopefully leading to sustainability. Absolutely loved it.

Funny and kicks your ass

I really like the way Oonagh talks, down to earth and real. I'm on my second listen as I find it really reminds me how to eat and contradicts all the lies I tell myself when I want a treat. I know the mention of the China study is problematic but I don't think we can deny that the Chinese are healthier/thinner than Westerners really, and telling us to eat mainly vegetables is scientifically proven to be healthier so how can you argue with that? She makes me laugh too!

I found the swearing a bit overdone. It didn't make the content particularly witty or enjoyable. I had to return the book the next day. Might be valuable for other listeners, I didn't enjoy it ...sorry :'(

Rare

I rarely review books but this one is awful, do as you please but this one is just ripping on people who have allergies. It really isn’t funny but I can feel she tries to have it come across as satire but it’s not great.

Funny as F*ck

Well written and well read. The swearing made it better in my opinion. Nothing I didn't already know but it was a fun journey and hearing it from what felt like a normal mate telling me has actually helped. I recommend for Aussie chicks as this our style of talking/thinking.

Simple Yet Powerful

There was some mixed reviews before I loaded the book but I thought- fuck it- try it anyway. Some reviews said Oonagh was too ‘teenage’/‘swear-y’ but NO! The message is sound. I am guessing those reviewers might need to go listen to a nice novel rather than focus on changing their life to be a healthy and happy version of themselves.

It is stuff everyone is almost born knowing but laid out into do something great for yourself today!

Really resonated as a baby from the 70’s and blew a few myths up! So thank you Oonagh Duncan for being so real and authentic throughout your book! I have started implementing a few things and will likely re listen to this book in the future too.
