Publisher's Summary

Caught in a war between the living and the dead, which side will Maxine choose?

Boston, 1897

Death’s arrival in Boston was heralded by a crimson moon and screams in the night. The vampire king will claim what he wants in the city, unless someone is brave enough to stop him....

Maxine Parker’s life is an agonizingly solitary one, and not by choice. life. Her empathic ability renders it impossible for her to touch a living soul without killing them. But she cannot kill what is already dead.

Thrust into the middle of a war between the vampire king and three stalwart hunters, she finds herself drawn to Dracula’s alluring seduction. Giving in to her attraction to him would mark the end of her life. Will that be the sacrifice required to save the people of Boston from the plague of death closing in on them?

Dark fantasy and gothic romance blend seamlessly with horror in this gripping pause-resister.

enjoyable but.

I grew up reading the original Bram Stoker version in a classic hard back. I enjoyed the premise but had issues with the overly long intimate scenes. I enjoyed it enough to go ahead and purchase the sequel.

More Back Story

I actually did enjoy this book. I was amazed at how well the narrator created so many different voices. Not trying to be sexist but I don’t typically enjoy books with a male narrator because the female and children characters become annoying. Sorry, not wanting to offend anyone. However, I actually looked up the narrator on this one just to see if it was one person. The character from Colorado sounded goofy but otherwise great work.
My biggest complaint, and maybe the series addresses it later, but you only get hints about the past with the original novel. Why is Alphonse a soldier and is the author saying that the Von Helsing family has been fighting Dracula longer than Bram Stoker’s novel?
Otherwise, great book. Love Vlad and will probably check out the next book.

🧛🏻‍♀️🦇 Vampiric Masterpiece 🦇🧛🏻‍♀️

God bless Miss Kingsley's hands for creating such vampiric masterpiece! The novel capture me since the first time Vlad spoke. I loved the banter and friendly, yet firm disposition he showed his subordinates and the seductive beast he transformed into when dealing with Maxine. Vlad is a villain in every aspect, ruthless and unforgiving when need be but capable of showing good traits like the desire to protect what he loves. He considers himself a monster and isn't ashamed of it, just like any vampire king should be. Be prepare because this is an enemies to lovers that would melt you like butter.

I laughed with Walter and the Frenchman, cry when Vlad exposed his darker desires to Maxine, and got enraged at the blindness of a man who supposedly fights to protect humanity. Meaning the book has my LAC (Laugh-Angry-Cry) badge and will be counted among my best reads of the year for bringing out all these feelings in me.

Also worthy of mention are the sex scenes. Not only are they written in a way that will make squirm but the narrator makes Vlad's voice so wonderfully seductive that you melt and swoon for the vampire king.

Heart of Dracula far surpassed my expectations. Can't wait to get and read the next one in this bilogy.

Not happy

I really wish series book would say right at the beginning. Also the “left hanging” half way through the book was not amusing. The book is good with interesting world and characters but all of that doesn’t make up for the “cliff hanger” ending. So very disappointing I really feel cheated.

Well written smut

I am now a fan of Kathryn. I've been looking for a good vampire book for so long; this is it!

Great writing, imaginative plot and Dracula is very much the vampiric villain but charming all the same.

The spicy scenes were brilliant and exciting, so if you want some well written spice, this is it.

It took me a while to get used the narrator. I would have preferred a female voice but after I got used to hearing him it bothered me less.

I am definitely reading the next book in the series

Horrible narration

The narration made it impossible to listen to. Condescending tones, dramatic pauses and changes in volume mid word.

Very much enjoyed this

A good bit of action and a dangerous romance with some submissive and dominant roles and also some twists. Great story and a good amount of suspense and tension as well as a great read of you like your passion with a bit of bite.

Brilliant

This was a fantastic new take on the Gothic novel.
It questions what humanity is and who the monsters really are.
Great narrator and charicters.

A really good vampire story

If you want a classic stile vampire story this is it I have listened to both of the books in this series and enjoyed it immensely, to me it is far removed from the twilight esk stories which was what I have been looking for. The narrators voice took in the beginning to get used to but I feel like it’s always that way when listening to a new voice on audio, there are some scenes I was not comfortable with but I skipped over them and overall enjoy this I do really recommend it!
