Publisher's Summary

Agent Kit Morris. Has a nice ring, doesn't it? It's a big step up from "wanted criminal" or "that weird con-artist guy with weirder psychic powers", both of which recently applied to me. But my promotion to MagiPol agent comes with a few drawbacks.

First, supremely talented and effortlessly gorgeous Agent Lienna Shen won't agree to a dinner date with me. Second, my new assignment has pitted me against a guild with very bad taste in pets. Third, those pets are demons, and those demons want to kill me.

My psychic magic is great for conning people. It doesn't do jack shit against hellish orcs. If I screw this up, my dinner date will be with a demon - and I'll be the dinner. Even better, I kind of suspect this supposedly straightforward assignment is actually the tip of an unholy iceberg of power-hungry malefactors bent on destroying all law and order in the city.

I should probably mention that last part to my boss.

Can't Wait for book 3

I love how Annette Marie allows us to see events from different perspectives while still giving us completely new stories to enjoy. This book gave us a chance to see some of our favorite Crow and Hammer members while exploring some new aspects of the events we have already seen unfold in Tori and Robin's stories.

Terrible Narrator

While I love the story and the previous books, this narrator has decided after 10+ books that he needs to change the way words are pronounced. For example, infurnace has become infernoose. It's awful! Pease make sure the story is continuing without an idiot changing pronunciation.

It was really enjoying table....mostly.

Pronunciation errors made by audiobook narrators REALLY bothers me. I mean, you have one job...narrate the book - which infers doing it well. This goes for those who use a different pronunciation when it's questionable (i.e. names) when a new narrator joins an already existing series. I feel it should be required for them to listen to at least one of the previous books, so that they will blend into the series as seamlessly as possible, as such deviations are jarring.

In this book the opportunity for such annoying errors was especially noticeable because some of the words in question were said multiple times, such as infernace being said as inferNOOSE, and trebuchet being said like it's spelled instead of with a silent T at the end. Very annoying and pulled me out of the story each and every time, to the point where I almost gave up and returned it, but ultimately decided to stick it out.

Story-wise, it was a fun, if a bit light, addition to the series and helped to fill in some gaps. I wasn't too thrilled with how Tori was portrayed, both in dialogue and narration, as it was quite a bit more (unnecessarily) hostile from her series of books, instead of the strong-willed snark I have come to know and love. There was nothing likable about the encounter with her here.

All in all, enjoyable...especially if mispronounced words don't trigger the equivalent of road rage in you...as it does with me.

enjoyable, on your toes kind if action

funny , exciting, witty. Kit is the sarcastic jerk some of us only hope to be . :) The nice thing about well written books if you feel like you have just watched a movie instead of listening to an audio book.

Another one out the park!

Annette Marie has perfected her style of Urban Fantasy. Seriously, she has put out three amazing series within this wonderfully constructed world. She co-wrote this with Rob Jacobson, an author that I have to add my Try-Soon list.

Hellbound Guilds takes place a few months after book one. Kit is trying to become a full agent and still crushing on his partner. There is so much action, loads of pop culture references from Kit, and mysteries that build upon mysteries from the previous two series. If you've read the other series, you don't have to worry there are no spoilers. You won't be feeling like you already know how it ends because the story is happening at the same time as Torri and Robin's series.

Narrator is Iggy Toma. This is my first series with him and he did an excellent job!!!

Be still my geektastic pop culture heart.

I laughed the entire way through. My favorite characters are seeped in sarcasm and blunt as a hammer and anvil. <3 Kit…

If you love random off the wall metaphors delivered with expert comedic timing and tempo by a highly talented and entertaining voice actor, you may enjoy this audio book. (Coming from someone extremely picky about narration).

Suggest looking up the Guild Codex reading order before a listen. This is definitely not a standalone book.

Love this book!

Another quality tale spun by Annette Marie. The fixture of characters in this tale add to the fun world spun by the Spell Codex series. Highly recommend all the books in the series.

Fun

I’ve always enjoyed Ms. Marie’s stories but with her collaboration with Mr. Jacobsen, this series is a little bit more Snark than normal. It’s very enjoyable and fun. It can also be read without reading the previous series in the same universe. Kit is introduced in the other series but the timelines don’t quite match up. This story appears to take place before Kit is introduced in the other series. However, since the mention of Robin and the Crow & Hammer is here, the other series provides the background for her and the guild. Mr. Toma is a great choice to represent Kit’s voice. He sounds just like I would imagine Kit would sound.

Campy, but fun.

Ok, I freely admit some of the dialog and similes are a bit juvenile - but they make me laugh and are part of the charm of the books.

Ah, sweet snarky sarcasm

“Alliteration is the key- that’s why it’s The Fast and The Furious and not The Speedy and The Irritating.”

These are the perfect matinee listens for lovers of urban fantasy, pop culture, and snark. The tone is more Buffy than Deadpool, or more TV than cable… which I appreciate between meatier fare like First Law.
It’s less about the mystery procedural and more about the journey as petty criminal Kit goes attempts to get through a magical Police Academy final and become a full fledged Mahoney, er, I mean agent. I loved the practical jokes among the other agents and was only marginally miffed at the continued slow burn in the romance department.

Brilliant

I have read hellbound guilds and other misdirections a couple of times and it’s always as good as the first time that’s one of the things I love about Annette books and now Rob and Annette’s books so when I saw the audio had been released yesterday I was thrilled and it didn’t disappoint I love the narrator, he brings kit to life in the most amazing way and I can just picture everything he is reading to me and every scene he sets. This series is so funny and who doesn’t love a rough come goodie story add the mounting attraction between kit and Lienna you have a book full of action.. romance and humour an absolutely amazing read/listen.

Great, fun book

I've had a great time listening to the books in this series and how they tie in with the stories from the other sets. After briefly meeting Kit in the other books, it's nice to be able to delve deeper into his storyline and the character is just generally fun.

The narrator; Iggy, also does an amazing job getting each character to have their own distinct tenor and style.

I really want to like this series

Sadly I really am trying to like this series and the only reason I find myself sticking with it is because other the other series that I weaves in and out of. I found the pronunciation of some of the key words really annoying and jarring, the narrator was ok but nothing special. I probably wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone unless they have read the other series. It’s a shame because I like the view point of the MPD and the characters involved but I just can’t get into it.
