Publisher's Summary

A candid, hilarious, and heartbreaking memoir of resilience and redemption by comedic genius Molly Shannon

At age four, Molly Shannon’s world was shattered when she lost her mother, baby sister, and cousin in a car accident with her father at the wheel. Held together by her tender and complicated relationship with her grieving father, Molly was raised in a permissive household where her gift for improvising and role-playing blossomed alongside the fearlessness that would lead her to become a celebrated actress.

From there, Molly ventured into the wider world of New York and Los Angeles show business, where she created her own opportunities and developed her daring and empathetic comedy. Filled with behind-the-scenes stories involving everyone from Whitney Houston to Adam Sandler to Monica Lewinsky, many told for the first time here, Hello, Molly! spans Molly’s time on Saturday Night Live - where she starred alongside Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Cheri Oteri, Tracy Morgan, and Jimmy Fallon, among many others. At the same time, it explores with humor and candor her struggle to come to terms with the legacy of her father, a man who both fostered her gifts and drive and was left with the impossible task of raising his kids alone after the loss of her mother.

Witty, winning, and told with tremendous energy and heart, Hello, Molly!, written with Sean Wilsey, sheds new and revelatory light on the life and work of one of our most talented and free-spirited performers.

Molly is a superstar!!!

Very hard to express my feelings about this book. Heartbreak to sheer, unadulterated joy! Your story is inspiring Molly as I too lost my mother very early at age 3. Struggles ensued but like you, I have a profound appreciation for the life I’ve had and the blessings of family and friends to help fill the void. Although such a void is never completely filled you forged a way through to make such a beautiful life. Bravo and thank you so much for narrating this audio version. It was absolutely wonderful and I will always remember it❣️

very fun, interesting, and touching

wow! Molly is so open and vulnerable in this book. I love her stories about her dad, her experience with losing her mom, her snl stories, and those surprising interactions with Gary Coleman and others who behaved alarmingly. I loved every moment of it.

You Really Feel Like You Met Molly

This autobiography is a whirlwind of authenticity and vulnerability. I enjoyed EVERY word. Molly showed herself and let the reader/listener into her upbringing. I feel honored to have experienced her expression of self and I know her family is proud. It was a lot of story and I can only imagine the grief, love, anger, and joy it took to share with us. Molly has to be one of the most grateful people about whom I have ever read. This book has huge heartfelt surprises and was written with care.

Love Molly even more!

I loved hearing Molly’s stories of how she developed her characters. The death of her mom, sister & cousin had such a profound influence on her. It made me sad that it took so long for her & her dad to talk about it - that’s the Irish Catholic way!!! Molly is a strong woman & I love how she made it her own way. Her behind the scenes SNL tales were great.

Sad but sweet

Let me start by saying that I am a fan of Molly Shannon but this was not what I expected. I was really hoping for more behind the scenes anecdotes about various movie roles and of course SNL. She comes through with the backstage SNL stories but little else.
I totally get that this is her truth and she can tell it the way she wants to. This didn’t meet my expectations but I’m sure it lived up to hers.
