Publisher's Summary

In the second book of the USA Today best-selling series, Carly looks into a young woman’s disappearance while trying to hide her own dark secrets.

Carly Moore is finally feeling settled in Drum, Tennessee. She likes her job waitressing at Max’s Tavern and her boyfriend...she should have known both were too good to be true.

The previous waitress Lula unexpectedly returns, threatening Carly’s job and stability in Drum. But when Lula disappears, Carly is the only one who believes she didn’t leave of her own violation. Lula has a few secrets of her own, and one person is front and center on Carly’s suspect list - the town’s drug lord.

Teaming up with Marco Roland - a Hensen County Deputy on medical leave - to help find out what happened to Lula, they soon realize her disappearance has ties to Drum’s past.

Someone doesn’t want stones overturned, and they’ll go to deadly lengths to keep the truth hidden. Can Carly and Marco find Lula before it’s too late?

Disappointed

I listen to a book a day. My favorite books are mystery romance, which believe or not are not easy to find at the pace I read. i bought the first book in the series because it was a daily deal and the reviews seem solid. I really enjoyed the first book and used a credit on the second book hoping to dive into a juicy series where Carly and Wyatt fall in love and conquer their fathers together, instead i get some side story and she breaks up with Wyatt. Carly does even touch on her fathers story, instead gets all up in someone else's drama after meeting them for one day... really? In fact after the first 10 chapters I jumped to the end of the book to find out if Carly and Wyatt make up.......they don't. i just cant believe it so i go on to read the summaries and reviews for the rest of the series and it turns out that they are all side stories and they never get together. Well not after 5 books anyway. I think that Denise Grover Swank is a talented mystery writer but perhaps misses the mark on romance. I think what she fails to realize is that the romance part is key to part of developing the series and that readers (romance readers anyway) are looking for their happy ending. I really wished that Carly and Wyatt had fallen in love and together conquered their fathers. I am giving up at book 2 as I can spend money on a series that will not end with the two people I really was pulling for from book one to find themselves to each other in the end.

Better than the first

I’m my opinion, the second book was better than the first. I was a little on the fence after seeing some negative reviews, whether I would enjoy this one as much as the first. And I have to say, I liked it so much more. There is a lot of potential. And while we didn’t get a lot farther in the main background story, I really enjoyed this mystery. Off to the next I go

WONDERFUL SERIES!!!!

This is the best series I've listened to in a VERY LONG time. Denise Grover Swank does a magnificent job of capturing the attention of the listener/reader and holding it throughout the story. I love that some of the characters are so mysterious and some so shady. Shannon McManus is an excellent choice of narrators. I hope she continues to be the chosen one throughout the rest of the series. This is definitely a must-listen series and I would recommend starting from Book 1. However, when you click on the series, Book 3 doesn't seem to be available. But if you search for it, it will come up as being available. Don't miss it!
