Publisher's Summary

Even the idyllic seaside town of Lobster Cove can't keep the horrors of Vietnam at bay for war-widowed Annie. When the young mother finds herself falling for a man with a secret, she must choose between giving her shattered heart another chance or getting back into her red Barracuda and hitting the road. Which will it be - love? Or the open highway?

Steve doesn't believe he's worthy of a woman like Annie. He's been so busy hating himself for not being who he thinks he should be, he's lost sight of who he really is. But the times, they are a'changing...and one man's doubt might hide a true hero...

Annie and Steve

This book is set during the Vietnam War. Annie lost her husband in the war. With few options, she drives with her daughter to stay for a time with her husband's Grandma in Lobster Cove. While spending time there, Annie meets Steve and thinks there could be romance, but it seems like he keeps pushing her away. In the meantime, Annie and Grandma Clarice cook up plans to open their tourist shop.
Enjoyable story and very true to the sentiments of the war during that time. I enjoyed how the Clarice was in the story. Through Annie coming to stay with her she was able to have a relationship with her granddaughter and her grandson's wife. She shared her wisdom with Annie and Annie was receptive to listening to her and took her advice to heart.
The narrator was excellent and fit the story well. Her timing, pacing and voices were easy to listen to.
