Story
Rob is a sheriff's deputy faced with a choice: die in a meaningless shootout six hours from now, or accept the offer of a new life in another world offered by a mysterious goddess. But it won't be easy. He has to bring law and order to the wild frontier. The shocks keep coming when he finds out humans aren't native to Olimero. It is a land populated with fierce orcs, wild beastkin, and cunning elves. He may not have their magic, but he does have an edge. As an outsider, he has no cap on his stats. He will need to train, fight, and survive if he wants to rule.

As one of the downtrodden in Eden’s Meadow, TJ has led a life of scraping by as best he could. With little more to his name than a winning smile, his life takes a turn for the interesting as he befriends Serina, a rebellious young woman among the godlike Devas that control his realm. Being a test subject for her magic seems innocent enough, even if she occasionally tinkers with things she shouldn’t.

John Doc Henry had been on the shortest, crappiest end of the stick since the first day of his life; no parents, bad foster parents, and abysmal luck at every turn. The day his life changed started out exactly like he had come to expect. His car died on a rarely traveled road, and he broke his toe shortly after dodging the one other car on the road. When it stopped and backed up to him, the license plate read “LADYLUK”, adding insult to injury.

Now, I’ve discovered monsters are real, they’re stunningly beautiful, and they need my help. In this world, men’s cores are cursed, preventing them from cultivating and achieving incredible power. Fortunately, I’m not from this world. With several amazing monster girls at my side, I'll forge a new destiny and ascend to heights I’d only ever dreamed of. But first, I must create a safe haven in the wilds to protect those who have been hunted for far too long.

Story
An existence spent being forced to kill others to satiate a monster. Where the only thing to look forward to was the blessed, if brief, period of time between paying that bribe. Except that very same monster is and isn’t Rene. It just happened to live inside his own mind and force him to do what it wanted - rather than him being an actual monster. That was Rene’s entire life until a fateful day changed that. A day that his career as a hitman for hire built on the monster’s needs will end. Where Rene will be forced to atone for his actions. To be held accountable and judged.

Dave Smith is having a bad day, week, month, maybe even year. Freshly unemployed, facing eviction, and now he's been transported to a fantasy world. A wish come true for many a geek, if only he hadn't died less than a day after he arrived. Now trapped in this fantasy realms version of purgatory, he faces the prospect of trying to navigate a new existence as a dungeon. That wouldn't be so bad, except ending dungeons seems to be the path out for many of the other denizens of these Proving Grounds.

Story
I was only 27 and I already felt like my life was over. Then I fell asleep in statistics class and all hell broke loose. I've been summoned to a world completely unlike my own. Elves and monster girls roam the streets. A powerful race of demon called the Vrag have invaded, and somehow I've been put in charge of protecting two princesses from all manner of mayhem. The old Cal couldn't handle this. But when I stumbled through the dream portal, I became something more. I'm no longer Cal Newhart, divorced college student and ex-marine. Now I'm the Paladin, a supernatural knight of legend.

Publisher's Summary
Before the demons invaded, Nathan had everything he ever wanted. Women, power, magical talent, wealth, a fortress full of loyal soldiers.
Now, a beautiful demonic general offers him a choice: Die; or start a new life with her in the past and rewrite history. Nathan accepts and is sent back in time to before the end of the world.
Everything Nathan earned in his original life is gone, but he still has his years of knowledge and experience. Even better, he knows what will happen in the future. He doesn’t know why the demons sent him back, but he refuses to waste this opportunity. Nathan will take back everything he once had. But first, he must stop a demonic invasion from ending the world.
Heretic Spellblade contains plenty of violence, harem/undefined relationships, beast girls, and scenes that don’t fade to black. Consider yourself warned.

Highly Ilogical
tl;dr No internal consistency, characters make bad decisions even when informed, no work is put into justifying relationships. This is a hard pass.
Spoilers for Chapters 1 and 2 ahead:
My whole review could be on the first two chapters, but it is more useful to say, just skip them, I bet that would make the book better. Nothing logically follows, everything is wrong. Let me attempt to compress a recap. We spend a lot of time ignoring and then talking about a scouting report because "something about this report gives me a bad feeling", we eventually try to confirm the report using sensors... we still don't know anything beyond what I've mentioned. Sometime in Chapter 2, we find out that the report was about BILLIONS OF DEMONS coming out of a portal, and that when ever this sort of thing happens the sensors can be subverted, and that dealing with this sort of thing is the soul job of these people.... WAT! So you are telling me, that because this is your only job, and all the scouting report said was a confirmation of the very thing you are waiting for, but you put it off for no reason, and you already know that the sensors aren't going to work, but you fuss around with them for a long time seeing if the report can be confirmed... this actually makes no sense at all, it fails, we just started the book, and things are so very broken.
The next few chapters that I endured, were not worse, but were lack luster. Characters are just smashed together and passed off as developing relationships. The MC is supposed to be the best of the best, but we can already see that wasn't the case from Chapters 1 & 2. On top of that, sometimes in the dialog another character will just tell him they are going to do something that is either against him or doesn't benefit him. AND, the MC doesn't even respond, like, there is no dialog, like he just takes it and keeps talking like they never said anything. IT IS SURREAL!
What is going on here I cannot tell you, because I do not know. Just go read something else.

I'm lost
I'll preface this with I didn't finish this book, I got about half through.
I have absolutely no idea of who knows what. Like the MC knows everything because it's an isekai (kind of) and then some other characters know things and others don't. It's very confusing. I honestly liked the side characters they all seemed to have different personalities. However the MC only seems to have two settings, "this is different from my past," and "I know everything." He gets old real fast.
Stephanie did a nice job narrating.

Surprisingly good book
I have found books like this tend to be more male fantasy then story contact. This one proved to have a bit more plot and story than what I have found in this style of books. This has the potential of turning out to be a good series. But I must say it’s not there yet.

A hot mess.
I'd like to preface this by stating that i gave up on it fairly quickly listening to roughly third of it so there might be some chance of it turning better later on.
Major plot points and the progression of the story feels rather contrived most of the time.
This is very much a power fantasy, but the magic and fighting rules are lazily defined.
Girls are lusting for MC right from the start without just cause.
The whole thing to me feels like it's just smut with a lot of filler. The filler being story/characters/magic/crafting etc.

Pretty good
Overall the story was pretty good. the narrator took some getting used to. At first I really didn't think her voice was suited to this type of story at all. I got used to it after awhile though. she's not bad don't get me wrong, she just doesn't really fit this type of book. It was especially jarring coming from a book right before this narrated by Andrea Parsneau.

Appealing world, characters and powers
Read the book previously, liked going back to it.
There are so many little things you pick up on a second reading and Stephanie did an overall good job with the reading and keeping character voices distinct and consistent. There are parts where real world language basis wasn't followed particularly well though but that's accent rather than performance.
If you like fantasy, mysteries, power growth, reasonable challenges along the journey, great characters and wonderful (soft) magic systems then Heretic Spellblade is definitely a book and series for you.
If you prefer more humour and a darker story and protagonist then take a look at the author's Demon's Throne series!
