Publisher's Summary

To be an adventurer. One of the elite class of brave souls who travel Eldaria and fight the blight of monsters wherever they are found.

Picture rippling muscles, clad in magical armor, perhaps, artfully splattered with the viscera of foes smote in twain. Or...ooh...alternatively, a severely tasteful robe, dusted - equally artfully - with the ashes of enemies immolated with eldritch fyre.

Now picture these paragons of heroism sitting astride their muscled warhorses, surrounded by the cheering, garland-throwing peasants of a hamlet they have saved from the blight. Now, throw that image out, because this isn’t that story.

Instead, picture a group of adventurers who are not skilled, have slain nothing, don’t own any armor worth burnishing and would probably misspell "eldritch" if given a chance. While the saying holds true that "everybody has to start at zero", it might also be posited that this misfit band of eager wannabes are starting somewhere in the negative.

Bards are not going to be composing any epic ballads about their exploits anytime soon, unless it's in the form of a cautionary tale. But despite all these setbacks, they are destined to save the world, right? No. But they might, anyway.

Light hearted fun for the whole family

This is a fun story that doesn't take itself too seriously. The story built and got better each chapter. I am excited to see where the story goes and am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. This is well worth the cost of a credit and I hope others will enjoy it as much as I did.

Great Adventure with a Group of Misfits

A tale of unlikely heroes. The story is well written, and is a great start to what the series. The story plays out like a video game in some ways. The adventurers start out defeating slow moving weak opponents and level up and fight stronger foes. Erik the Fighter, former hay farmer's son, leads the group with his enchanted shield. Alyx is a wizard, but goes full nerd throughout most of the story. His head seems to be stuck in the clouds. Kate is the acrobat who is as graceful as a hippo. And Zee is the least elf like elf you will ever meet. Mikael Naramore is one of my favorite narrators, and he did a bang up job on this one.

All around fun

This book does well in all departments. Character interaction, story, humor, even the magic system. It effectively does an RPG style story without any need for level screens for stats.

Where is book 2

I really enjoyed the writing and the story line held a good amount of humor and you become invested into the main characters, I am interested in hearing how the story works out.

starts slow but gets better

I almost returned this book because the beginning was so slow but I am glad I did not, it turned out really good and I loved the narration and the little Princess Bride Easter eggs such as the dagger that would fit a six fingered man.

More like Mentality Challeneged...

This is an "inspector gadget" type book. Every single person in the party is an idiot and does unrealistic stupid things and then dumb luck lets them win because this is a book. They don't actually succeed at anything they do. Some random thing happens and that is why they win, ever single time. The same pattern happens in every fight. They do something really stupid, it doesn't work, they almost lose, then something random happens (like an arrow falling from the sky a mile away that was shot 20 min ago) then w/e they are fighting falls down into a pit or down a mountain or w/e and they get the XP. The characters are just cringe worthy.

While the book was actually well written and there were some good snarky parts it is mostly a bust. No problems were solved, they were just given the tools in advanced, not even earned or won them just given them, so that when they did run into something they have what they need, like a portable house that has the exact number of beds. If you liked the cartoon inspector gadget you would actually like this and find it funny. But I find that this book is just dumb people getting away with being dumb, and I don't think that is worth reading. I will be returning this.

quirky

A nice twist on a regular plot with the "hero's "being so inept. The only drawback is that the story is bland with no twist or surprise.

Utterly Brilliant!

This was my first LitRPG book after wanting to try one hearing so much about them lately and being a bit of a long term gamer still. This story is seamlessly brilliant, with some genuine laugh out loud moments with really enjoyable and likeable charactors.

I am not one to give five stars even when they deserve them it seems fake in today’s online world however i was captivated from the very first page and the author somehow managed to get perfect narrator for their work, he brings life and excitement to the characters and energy not to mention brilliant comedic timing to the story.

If you want to experience a truly riveting story or try LitRPG for the first time then you can do so much worse then this. I also just found out this was the first book from this author, they obviously have a very bright future ahead of them.
