Bellamy Lyston was only 12 years old when her older sister Susan was killed on a stormy Memorial Day. Now, 18 years later, Bellamy has written a sensational, best-selling novel based on Susan's murder. Because the book was inspired by the tragic event that still pains her family, she published it under a pseudonym to protect them from unwanted publicity. Story
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

I'd love to hear it read with a different narrator
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I think the book would have been 2 hours shorter if he didn't pause every couple of words.
Any additional comments?
I'm a Sandra Brown fan through and through. I stuck with it, in spite of the narrator, because it's a nice story.

Alot of lusty sex jargon, annoying after awhile
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
At certain parts of the book it was a good read. But alot of talk describing sexual encounters between main characters. I skipped ahead a number of times, heard that last chapter!!
Would you ever listen to anything by Sandra Brown again?
Yes I like the author, and rarely disappointed in her books, but I am with this one. I would not recommend it to anyone.
How could the performance have been better?
Yes
Was Hidden Fires worth the listening time?
Yes, but not sad that came to the end.

Characters too extreme
The overall story is compelling, however the characters are a little over-the-top in personalities. Way too innocent or way to mean-spirited making them less believable.

Could have been better
The story plot was not bad. The structure of the story, if I'm saying this correctly, was off for me. I liked Lauren until she said she loved Jared after Jared had been nothing but horrible to her. Her love for him did not make any since. I could see how he could love her but not the other way around. I wanted to like Jared, but the author took too long in the book to make a case for me to like him. He was mean, really mean, to Lauren when it was very clear she was a good person. Jared's character needed to have been devolved into a likeable person earlier on in the book. It seemed like Lauren was victimized by everyone except the Mexican and Spanish people. They were the nicest people in this book. I'm disappointed in this story by Sandra Brown. She is a great story teller, but this book was my least favorite of her books.
