Publisher's Summary

The world had tried to break her.

Addie has dreamt of freedom for as long as she can remember - peace away from the torment of her old life. But now that it’s finally within her grasp, she’s struggling to take those first steps into her new reality.

The last thing she wants is a new roommate to see the scars she’s desperate to keep hidden, especially not the ruggedly handsome man who steals her breath and sends her heart into overdrive.

“I’m nobody’s hero. Trust me.”

All Beckett wants is to silence the demons of his past. The first step is to make amends for not being there when his family needed him the most. That means settling in Wolf Gap for good, even if the town reminds him of all the ways he failed.

He never expected to share a home with a blonde-haired beauty with haunting hazel eyes. But he’s held captive by her quiet strength and the way she sees everything he tries to hide.

Soon, an unlikely friendship becomes so much more. But when forces from Addie’s life slink out of the shadows, they could both lose everything they fought so hard for - down to their very last breaths…

✨ 4.25 ✨

Hidden Waters was a beautifully written story about healing, overcoming the past and finding true love. I absolutely just loved the heroine in this book and everything she overcame; definitely my favorite book so far in the series.

I was able to listen to the audiobook at the same time and I have to say that the narrators did a fantastic job and definitely made me enjoy the story a lot more.

While this book can be read as a standalone it is the third book in the Tattered & Torn series. So I would just recommend reading the prior books first for more context. I would also suggest checking the content and trigger warnings before reading as well. It is dual POVs of the main characters and has the force proximity trope as well.

The overall storyline and plot while a bit slow at times was still beautifully written. The heroine’s backstory and everything she went through absolutely broke my heart. She definitely deserved the world and I was just blown away with her character growth.

The hero was amazing as well. I loved how patient, protective and understanding he was. His devotion and love for her was just so beautiful.

The suspense aspect was also great; while heartbreaking I just loved how strong the heroine was throughout the whole situation.

The romantic development between the main characters was a bit slow, which was understandable but nonetheless still beautiful. They had some amusing, heartfelt and spicy moments as well.

The ending was a bit rushed to be honest and kind of brushed over certain aspects but still had a great conclusion.

Overall, just an incredible read with an amazing heroine.

Fantastic audio!

Hidden Waters is the third book in the Tattered and Torn series by Catherine Cowles, a small town series. I had the best time binging/catching up with the books out so far in the series. This book was angsty and emotional and I loved it!

Addie is the cousin of Everly, the heroine of book (Tattered Stars), and she lived in the same type of environment growing up…their fathers were preppers, anti government, believe in living off the grid/off the land, don’t seek medical care, all those type of things. Addie did escape and get away and now in this book she’s having to learn to live a “normal life” so to speak: getting her GED, learning to drive/drivers license, getting a job, learning about computers and technology. She’s been living in her cousin Everly’s home when Everly asks if her brother-in-law can move in with her for a bit while his home is being built.

Beckett is a doctor and he returned to Wolf Gap after his sister Hadley got injured in the previous book (Falling Embers). He’s been living back at home with his parents while his house gets built but is going a little crazy cooped up there. His brother Hayes, the local sheriff and hero of book 1, tells him Addie is fine with them becoming roommates for a bit. I really liked seeing the friendship that Addie and Beckett form, they both have some emotional trauma from their pasts that they have to work through and I liked seeing them open up to one another about that. Beckett decides to setup a clinic near the people who live off the grid and further out of town so I liked seeing how Addie assisted him with that. Of course it isn’t a Catherine Cowles book without some kidnapping 😅 but I really enjoyed the romantic suspense element to this one! I just really enjoy this series and all the cast of characters, I cannot wait for the next books!

Another beautiful story in this series!

Well Catherine did it once again! Another beautiful, heart wrenching small town romance. I have been so excited for Addie and Beckett's story for so long and my heart is so happy that we finally got it.

This book pulls at your heartstrings so much for Addie and the trauma she had to endure at the hands of her father growing up and still continues to linger in the shadows. But what really captivated me the most is Addie’s ability to fight through her struggles and fears to find a semblance of peace and freedom. But it definitely was not an easy road to get there.

In comes Beckett and all his protectiveness and I loved every minute of it. He also has his own demons to fight but he doesn't allow them to hold him back from being there for Addie. The two of them were made for each other and were meant to cross each other's paths to overcome their own traumas while helping one another see the light at the end of the very dark tunnel.

Sebastian York and Ava Erickson did a phenomenal job bringing these characters to life. You can never go wrong listening to a book narrated by these talented individuals! Excellent performance!

Four star story, one star narration

I’ve listed to these narrators in the past and they did a decent job but these characters just deserved better. The male narration was particularly bad, Beckett was made to sound like a man in his 50s and when the male narration attempted to do the female characters or really any of the additional characters he added a bit of a southern twang to it which was not supported by what the female narrator did to those same characters. Overall I think these two narrators just simply didn’t work well together. However, Catherine Cowles is amazing and I’m very glad that I read this book before I listen to it.

Addy and Beckett's Story Deserves 10 Stars

Hidden Waters is the third book in the Tattered and Torn series, it's the first book in this series I have listened to or read but that in no way spoilt my enjoyment of this moving story. You can most definitely listen to this book about Adaline (Addy) Kemper and Beckett Easton as a standalone. The author does a wonderful job of cleverly weaving the story in such a way that you don't feel you've missed anything.

Addy's early life was one of extreme abuse from her father, more so after her mother left when she was younger. She was able to make her escape with the help of her cousin Everly and her fiancé Hayes Easton who offers her his empty farmhouse to live in. But even though she's free she continually has to look over her shoulders as her father and his 'friends' are far too close for comfort.

Beckett has returned home after many years working as a doctor all over the world, he's come home to his family but he too has his own demons. At first, he stays at his parents’ house while his new home is being built, but his mother's smothering ways become too much and so he and Addy become housemates at the farmhouse belonging to his brother. Although Addy wants to move on with her life without fear it's hard, and if she has to have a male housemate she couldn’t ask for anyone better than Beckett, he respects her boundaries and gives her the help she needs to achieve her dream of normality and freedom.

I loved Addy's character, she tries so hard, I love that we got to watch her grow, and how she shone, I also fell a little in love with Beckett he was the perfect foil for her, so strong and encouraging. He made it possible for her to experience life and grow, whilst she was everything he needed her to be.

The characters, good and bad, are wonderfully well drawn, the storyline is moving, sad at times and yet uplifting at others, the story deals with a difficult subject but the author does it beautifully. There is so much more I want to say but that would involve spoilers and give too much away so I won't, I'll just say that this is an emotional, moving story. I had tears in my eyes more than once and found myself on the edge of my seat often as I listened to this book.

The narration of this book by Ava Erickson and Sebastian York is excellent, they both do an amazing job of bringing all the characters to life. The emotion in their voices allowed me to feel everything these characters felt.

I know I said earlier that you can listen to this book without having listened to the earlier ones and you can but now I really do want to listen to the earlier books just because if they are as good as this one, they are simply too good to miss! I definitely want to continue listening to the rest of the series.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review

Beautiful And Heartbreaking

This beautiful, heart clenching, emotional, suspenseful romance is my first introduction to Catherine Cowles. I absolutely fell in love with Addie and Beckett’s love story. My heart broke for them. Both struggle from past trauma or tragedy. Addie is slowing finding her way and learning to be someone confident and strong. Beckett still struggles to forgive himself for what happened to his sister when they were younger. Together they help each other to slowly heal and sooth their souls. Addie is still being terrorized by her past and Beckett will do anything he can to protect her. I loved how their relationship develops, from slow burn friendship to passionate lovers. This book was wonderful from beginning to end. The narration made this story even better. Two of my favorite voices in romance bring Addie and Beckett to life. Sebastion York as Beckett and Ava Erickson as Addie were phenomenal. They truly captured their personalities and past trauma. They definitely brought out the emotions and I felt that. I am so happy I gave a new author a chance and found another one to add to my reading list. I can’t wait to listen to more from this series.

Loved it!

Another amazing listen by Catherine Cowles. Loved Ava Erickson as Addie & Sebastian York as Beckett. Their narration was perfect. Addie had a heartbreaking past that haunted her every move. The last thing she expected to do was have Beckett as a roommate. Beckett's past was equally traumatic. Together they were able to work through all of and get their HEA.

Heartbreakingly beautiful!

Hidden Waters is the third book in the Tattered and Torn series by the queen of emotions Catherine Cowles and is the friend to lover, forced proximity story of Beckett and Addie.
Addie grew up in a cult like community, where men are head of the household, women oversee raising the children, keeping the house clean and tidy, meals on the table and are to be seen and not heard. They are to obey rules as are the children to avoid punishment. As an only child, Addie’s Mum tried to protect her as much as she could until she could no longer take the beatings and being controlled so she left leaving sweet Addie to become the sole focus of her father’s rath. With the help of her cousin Everly, Addie has escaped that torrid life and now that Hayes has moved in with Everly, they have set her up in Hayes’ house and she’s starting to put that life in the past and build a future for herself. That is until Hayes’ brother Beckett needs a place to stay so moves in and when her past comes back to haunt her and threatens her life, Beckett steps up as her protector as well as her roommate, friend, and confidante. Will Addie be able to lower her walls and allow Beckett in?
Beckett was raised completely different to Addie; he grew up in a loving family and stable home. However, Beckett has been away for a long time trying to deal with the guilt he carries after his sister was kidnapped but now, he’s back in town, and has taken over Wolf Gap medical clinic as the new local GP. Beckett needs somewhere to stay while his house is being built and Hayes thinks that him sharing a house with Addie will be good for both of them. Beckett takes it upon himself to broaden Addie’s horizons and introduce her to all the things she was deprived of living with her tyrant father. Beckett allows Addie the time and space to grow as an individual and get used to having him in her life and when danger comes knocking on their door, he will stop at nothing to make sure Addie is safe and that danger is eradicated from her life once and for all.
The insanely talented Ava Erickson and Sebastian York bring Addie and Beckett’s story to life. Ava’s ability to showcase Addie’s vulnerabilities, strength, resilience, wants, and desires was truly impeccable. Sebastian’s portrayal of Beckett was incredible. He managed to convey Beckett’s super protective, nurturing, patient side as well as his vulnerabilities perfectly. I loved this narration duo, together they were amazing.
I was looking forward to Addie’s story and my goodness, I couldn’t have loved it more! Seeing Addie blossom throughout the book with the help and encouragement of Beckett was simply beautiful and that Addie also helped Beckett overcome his issues and flourish made these two perfect for each other and my favourite couple in this series so far.

Sexy smalltown romance with a pinch of suspense

HIDDEN WATERS was my first read by Catherine Cowles, and oh my feels. I think I might have found a new go to for smalltown romances. Addie and Beckett totally stole my heart with their broken pieces and the beauty of them finding each other.

Although theirs is the third book in a series, I never felt lost or like I was missing something. What I did gather though is that I would have most likely fallen for them even more deeply had I met them in the previous two stories.

This one is a great smalltown romance with a dash of suspense and heartache moments and a whole lot of family bonding. Not to forget a hero that is undeniably perfect for our broken heroine, caring, patient and considerate.

The audio narration is done beautifully by Ava Erickson and Sebastian York, two of my seasoned favorites, who gift the stories even more layers and emotions. Amazing!

Gah!! I loved this book!

Gah!! I loved this book!! Addie is such a brave and strong heroine! She has come out of a lifetime of abuse and is finding her way as an independent woman.

Addie Kemper is living in Wolf Gap trying to avoid run ins with her father and his cronies. She wants to be as “normal” as possible and not be seen and pitied as weak and damaged.

Beckett Easton has returned to Wolf Gap, taken over the medical practice and hopes to atone for the guilt he feels over his sister’s kidnapping and make up for the fact that he has stayed away from home so long.

As a favor to Hayes Easton who is letting her stay at his house since he is now living with Everly, Addie allows Beckett to live there temporarily.

“You you see my scars but never think I’m weak.”

I love that Becket sees past Addie’s shy exterior, allows her to stand on her own but is there when she needs support.

I listened to this story on audiobook and the narration was wonderful. It really made me feel like I was part of the story and not just reading it.

Starting to live

Addie is a woman who has been abused and she is finally free and learning to live her life not in fear. Little by little day by day she is doing more and living her life on her terms. Beckett Easton is back in toe taking over the town’s doctor’s practice and in his own way trying to make things right with his family that he feels he failed. These two are learning and growing together and slowly falling for each other. Loved the narration of Sebastian York, and Ava Erickson .

Thoroughly enjoyed

I really enjoy listening to Catherine Cowles books, although I actually haven't managed to listen to the other in this series yet, so this book can certainly be read as a standalone.

Addie and Beckett were perfect for each other, Addie had a horrible past but her friends and Beckett were always by her side, this is a romantic suspense which I love and the story completely grips you from the first chapter and was an emotional roller-coaster.

Ava Erickson was the perfect narrator for Addie and really brought her to life and Sebastian York was a great Beckett too.

I devoured this book and it will certainly go into my re-reads pile!

Loved it!

Audio review: I loved Sebastian York and Ava Erickson narrating in this book and I liked the overall story a lot! I enjoyed the couple getting to know each other and slowly falling in love. This is a slow burn but this couple together had sparks flying and I loved watching them grow together and as individuals.

I liked the storyline and thought it was different than the same kind of books out there so that is a major plus right there. It was interesting and kept me invested and listening non stop.
(I’ll let you read the blurb and refrain from rewriting it here.)
It has some suspense which I’m always looking for in my romance books so thats another plus!

I did feel a little bit lost concerning the weird group she grew up in, since I didn’t read the 1st two books in the series.
I think starting at the beginning would help you to understand this one better.

I still really liked it a lot so I can only imagine if you start at the beginning of the series this would make for a 5 star series!
It has me intrigued to go back to the start and take a chance on a new to me author.
😁🔥❤️
