Publisher's Summary

In this intimate book of inspiration, Tyler Perry writes of how his faith has sustained him in hard times, centered him in good times, and enriched his life.

Higher Is Waiting is a spiritual guidebook, a collection of teachings culled from the experiences of a lifetime, meant to inspire listeners to climb higher in their own lives and pull themselves up to a better, more fulfilling place.

Beginning with his earliest memories of growing up a shy boy in New Orleans, Perry recalls the moments of grace and beauty in a childhood marked by brutality, deprivation, and fear. With tenderness he sketches portraits of the people who sustained him and taught him indelible lessons about integrity, trust in God, and the power of forgiveness: his aunt Mae, who cared for her grandfather, who was born a slave, and sewed quilts that told a story of generations; Mr. Butler, a blind man of remarkable dignity and elegance, who sold penny candies on a street corner; and his beloved mother, Maxine, who endured abuse, financial hardship, and the daily injustices of growing up in the Jim Crow South yet whose fierce love for her son burned bright and never dimmed. Perry writes of how he nurtured his dreams and discovered solace in nature, and of his resolute determination to reach ever higher.

Perry vividly and movingly describes his growing awareness of God's presence in his life, how he learned to tune in to His voice, to persevere through hard times, and to choose faith over fear. Here he is: the devoted son, the loving father, the steadfast friend, the naturalist, the philanthropist, the creative spirit - a man whose life lessons and insights into Scripture are a gift offered with generosity, humility, and love.

So authentic and inspiring!!!

I enjoyed this book so much!!! I pre-ordered the book and almost fainted when I saw that Tyler was releasing a nonfictional book pertaining to his life-- what took so long 🙄!!!

The narrator is fine...but, Tyler should have read his own book! I understand that he is busy but you are robbing your product to not read it yourself! Tyler represents excellence to me and I doubt the profit from this book is important to him but we need you to read your own book, Tyler. Please and thank you! I’m not ungrateful and so glad he published this book for us but please give us the full experience.

The story is so raw and authentic. I no longer see Tyler as Madea but as the man he is! I 💗 this audiobook!

Once I started listening to this book, I could not stop. I am at a point in my life where I need to hear every word read by the narrator. Thank you Mr. Perry for your life struggles have not been in vain.

Wish it were narrated by Tyler...rings inauthentic

I listened to Trevor Noah, Born a Crime, and the best thing about it is that it is narrated in his own voice. Tyler Perry should have narrated this himself. It has the effect of someone else telling his story and it rings inauthentic. The person who is narrating doesn't seem like Tyler. He should have waited to release it until he could narrate it himself. With that said I'm still a Tyler Perry fan.

First of all Tyler doesn't read the book, REALLY? instead a very boring, let's put the listener's to sleep man does the narration. I purchase these books to listen to on the road, but this one almost made me crash on my to Arizona from California.

Loved story—not like Tyler Perry not reading it!

This story was very inspirational. But very disappointing because of reader...
When you have listened to Tyler Perry’s interviews, and voice so many times, as I have, it’s disappointing to listen to Mr Hoffman’s voice, instead. I had to keep turning it off to look at picture of Mr Perry.
I know he’s busy, but I really miss hearing Tyler Perry’s voice! I would recommend book, but not audible. Sorry...
