Publisher's Summary

On leave from his Highland regiment, Captain Liam Lockhart comes to London on an urgent mission: to repossess the stolen family heirloom that could save his ancestral estate. He never dreamed it would involve surrendering his heart. But the beautiful and scandalous socialite Ellen Farnsworth sets his Highland blood aflame with a will as strong and reckless as his own. Though bound to Liam by a soul-searing passion, duty impels Ellen to commit a terrible betrayal. Now, driven by passion, pride, and vengeance that know no bounds, this fearsome Highlander will reclaim not only his family's ancient treasure, but the one daring woman he was meant to love for all time.

Narration may have affected the story

Any additional comments?

I did like the storyline and the complex relationship, but found myself wondering whether I should be reacting differently than I was to the dialogue. The scenes that I think were intended to be funny came across flat. The narrator seems to have two gears - intense and news reporter. I think she would make a great kids novel narrator with her tone of voice, but doesn't convey sexy, brutish Scot to me. And the end scene seemed sort of ridiculous which saddened me as there was such a build up to their reuniting. I am curious enough to get the other books in the series, because I have been impressed by the author's other series.

Repetitive and unsympathetic

I generally like this genre of fiction, but in this case, both the writing and the narration were poorly done. The story itself was OK for the first part, even though the so-called “heroine“ was a bit pathetic. In fact, the female protagonist becomes extremely unlikable after she completely betrays the principal main character Liam. Liam, too, seems all right in the beginning, but after the big betrayal, it is not easy to believe that he would be interested in this woman, especially as she continues to make a fool of him.

The narration doesn’t help the story, alas. The characters all seem very whiny, especially the main female, who is always justifying herself as a victim, even with regard to Liam, which is ridiculous. I nearly stopped listening halfway through, but I was hoping it would get better toward the end. Alas, it did not.

Don’t waste your time with this book unless you like reading about characters that make dumb choices and blame others for it.

A Scotsman in England.

Highlands Captain Liam Lockhart goes on a mission to London to retrieve a family heirloom so they can save the family’s estate. There he meets the lovely Ellen Farnsworth and her daughter Natalie. Will he succeed and find the love of his life at the same time? Sizzling romance and lots of twists. Good performance. Recommend.

A cut above!

One of Julia London's very best. The story telling is marvelous, the characters well developed, the story very engaging, and - surprise - lots of wonderful humor. And Anne Flosnik is a perfect narrator. Loved it!

Awfully read

I can’t say anything about the story. But the voice and style of reading was uncomfortable and abrasive. Had to stop after the first chapter.

🌻Not the best Scottish romance I’ve ever heard!🌻

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻V from Kansas 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

This narrator does not impress me so I struggled to make it through, this book. In addition, I didn’t like how the major conflict is not resolved by the end of this book. However, since I can continue the story without spending a credit, I’m willing to continue with book two!

Dreadful Narration

The narrator's speed and attempted accents were so bad I couldn't continue far enough to form an opinion on the book itself. I strongly recommend giving this narrator a very wide berth having struggled to reach chapter four of this torturous offering.
