Publisher's Summary

From South America to Holland to Nepal - a new journey in the company of Paulo Coelho, best-selling author of The Alchemist.

Drawing on the rich experience of his own life, best-selling author Paulo Coelho takes us back in time to relive the dreams of a generation that longed for peace. In Hippie, he tells the story of Paulo, a young, skinny Brazilian man with a goatee and long, flowing hair, who dreams of becoming a writer, and Karla, a Dutch woman in her 20s who has been waiting to find a companion to accompany her on the fabled hippie trail to Nepal.

After meeting each other in Amsterdam, she convinces Paulo to join her on a trip aboard the Magic Bus that travels from Amsterdam to Istanbul, and across Central Asia to Kathmandu. As they embark on this journey together, Paulo and Karla explore a love affair that awakens them on every level and leads to choices and decisions that will set the course for their lives thereafter.

Touchingly beautiful

You want to be sitting in that cafe in Istanbul with Paolo and Carla. You want to never get up and leave. As an old hippie and still proud to call myself that I can completely relate to the experience Coelho narrates, taken from his own story of his passage into adulthood. For me that story involved running to the bulls in Pamplona and a lime-plaster café on Mykonos but the hitchhiker love affairs were similar and the life lessons enduring. His memories are retold with such elegance that I am reminded why the hippies were one of the greatest and most consequential events of the 20th Century. This book is a sensory delight that only a great writer can provide. I will listen a second time.

Tells It Like It Was

Tells about the average "Hippie" more like we were than movies and conservatives would have you believe. For example what was called "Free Love" is what most adults do when dating with someone they like these days. The long hair and colorful clothes where about not having to be like everyone else not about rebellion. Paulo tells his own story to illustrate a time that opened our horizons, made us be more world focused than just our own tribe, and he tells about just learning to get to know ourselves to be better human beings. What a great journey. Wish I could go back and make road trip he did but lacked the self confidence in those days. Great book and reader. Don't miss.

What have I just listened to

I’m a big fan of Paulo Coelho and I don’t even remember what was the first book of his that I read. But If Hippie was the first book I read/ listened to, it most definitely would not be the case.

The only though I had when I finished Hippie was ‘huh?!’

It almost makes me question the authenticity of the audible reviews.

Boring and pointless.

I generally like Paulo coelhos work but this just goes nowhere. It was boring and pointless. No take aways.

I just couldn’t find a stopping point!

Hippie flows so easily throughout each and every chapter. After reading a few of Paolo’s books beforehand, this book is exponentially more interesting. Love, once again, wins!

love the book. Paolo never disappoints with his poetic way I've seen the world and describing it in the way that makes you feel like you're there

Pretty groovy in a farout sort of way.

I think this would be a good movie. I appreciate the detail so I can experience the ride on the magic bus. The narrator did a great job story telling. Still I want to see this as a movie.

Incredible book

I truly love this book. I've been listening for weeks at 20-30 minute intervals. It's been like a friend, and I'm actually sad it's finished.

So Boring

Oh my god. This is the worst book I have ever listened to. The narrator is a step above monotone and I can’t believe I held out my credit for this.
