Amazing! Short but comprehensive at the same time

Very well written and narrated. I listened to it start to end in just 3 streches. It was captivating.
The only qualm I have about it is not recognizing any of the other freedom fighters than Nehru and Gandhi from Congress. there was a significant arms movement which happened in parralel to Nehru/Gandhi and was equally important to gain India Independence

indulges in a fair bit of sophistry

The source material is biased toward Western history. Uses the civilizing force argument against caste-divided Indians which has been disproved by contemporary British accounts. Not recommended.

Don’t waste your time

The narrator can’t even pronounce the names of characters and places properly. You would think they’d make a bit more effort. Don’t waste your time.

Great Summary History of India

The subtitle of this book is spot on. This is a captivating guide to begin an exploration into the history of ancient, Greek-era, medieval, British Raj, modern India, and more. This is a summary history, not a scholarly history, of the eras examined and inspires a deeper inquiry into any or all of those areas of study. The writing is clear and concise, focusing on characters and events crucial to each period. I enjoyed the narrator's voice, style and tone. Recommended as a summary guide to the history of India.

India's Great History

I enjoyed this historical accounts of ancient and modern India and the various individuals and times that shaped it destiny.

Muhammad Gandhi was interesting part since I only knew his role as a moral spiritual leader but never anything about his early life and sacrifices.
That was great. Also, Britain's role as a trade nation and later as an empire imposing its influence on India.

I also see how Pakistan and India came into being seeing that Hinduism and Muslim religions could not coexist within the same region. This was well the money and time for this audiobook.

Nicely Done

Very well written and thorough given its expansive topic and single volume length. Well detailed book on the history of India. Lots of detail and goes from the very beginning to modern times. Not a book to read overnight or for the casual tourist but great book for those who real students of this countries' history. I do feel like I understand the history, culture and current state of affairs much better.

Interesting History

This is an excellent book, and the only reason I will focus on the minor quibbles is that I cannot add any more to the positive praise this book. I am totally agreed with the author.

History Of India

This book is grand in its scope, & brings forth wonderfully argued cases towards what is an Indian experience from a socio-politico-economic perspective. I highly recommend this book.

Great Read

This was a very enjoyable read for someone who knows very little about the topic but is planning a visit to India in the Autumn.
It was very easy to read as each topic was self-contained. The expanse of history covered was amazing in such a small book.
The topics discussed were so prevalent, it was like matching Indian history with current day living. Made me want to read up more about the culture.

Not that captivating

Mainly about country political history, except last few chapters. Unfortunately, narration is slightly shallow, unexciting.

Awesome

This book has given me a deep appreciation for history. Non-biased and detailed. I gave it one star less because he does go into to much detail with too many names. I would have appreciated him giving more general themes and highlight the main figures.

Good To Go

Altogether an excellent book on India's history and its ancient civilization. A book to read -- an educating refresher, if you will -- even if you know about Indian history already.

History Of India

I'm a history buff and this book is very interesting. It is not a one-sided, bias book, but tries to give a very good broad overview and when there are some issues which different historians disagree on, he will give both views and site who they are(such as the Indian historians who don't admit to some of the influences from the west in Indian culture) Overall very interesting, well written, and intriguer.

Very Informative

I was initially inclined towards buying different books for ancient, medieval and modern Indian history, but since I didn't find good books for each separately, I decided to try this one-in-all book. Given the obscurity and lack of direct evidence associated with Indian history, one has to say its a great piece of work with all five thousand years of Indian history condensed into one precisely well written, highly recommended book.

Disappointing

I was disappointed with this audio book as it was superficial, skimming over subjects. It didn't add any more insight than what I could have gotten from Wikipedia. It read as a list of events. I was looking for more.

The narrator North American twang was very pronounced and I found myself switching off.
