Story
Mortal-enemies-turned-furniture-breaking-lovers August Morrison and Ricardo Torralba have found a groove that suits them both. They’ve teamed up as hired guns, they live together, and by some miracle, they haven’t killed each other. It’s the closest to normal they’ll ever have, and they love it. But, their guns-and-roses future is thrown into chaos when Ricardo’s past comes crashing into their present. What begins as a favor for an old friend - well, “friend”, but don’t tell August - quickly spirals into something far bigger than they anticipated.

When you can talk to ghosts, things are bound to get spirited. The ghosts have been there since before I can remember. When I was a kid, they doted on me, but as I got older, they got more demanding. I’ve spent my whole life seeing and talking to dead people and trying to pretend I’m not, because the living just don’t understand. Nobody wants to be around the freak who claims to see ghosts. Until I go to Mannix Estate.

Some people are born lucky. Then there’s me, destined to be loved by the man who knows my darkest secret. My gift has followed me my entire life—the ability to see the threads of fate. I can see the red thread tying together two people destined to love one another. But my gift has another side to it. A darker side. I can also see a simple black thread tied to the fingers of those who aren’t aware of it, connecting them to the person destined to kill them. And when I look down at my own finger, I can see the red thread stretched over to Bishop King.

It’s day one of Darren Corliss’ career as a detective, and not only has he been assigned a notoriously difficult partner, but the guy might also be a pill-popping dirty cop. Internal Affairs needs proof, and Darren gets to be their eyes and ears whether he wants to or not. Detective Andreas Ruffner doesn’t play by the rules, and he doesn’t play well with others. With bodies piling up and a list of suspects who are way above his pay grade, the last thing he needs is a wet-behind-the-ears kid for a partner.

When I gave up life as a hitman, I thought everything was going to be better. I was going to become a PI, help people, and live normally…and then I met Jeremy, the most perfect man to have ever saved my life (I mean, he might be the only one who has saved my life, but he’s still the best at it). From that point on, it was all over for me - I knew we were meant to be. The issue is that he doesn’t…quite seem to realize that. But when he’s targeted by criminals (literally, someone just shot at his head), he needs to rely on someone, so why not me?

Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part. What’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner - an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it. Marcus - or, as I like to call him: Fangy McFangface - would really prefer to keep it that way. He’s grumpy, short-tempered, and broody, but I have a way with words, and I know he’s starting to like me, even if he swears he’s not.

Magnus Carlsen is determined to grow old disgracefully. At 52, he doesn’t believe in keeping anything. Men, sofas, books—everything gets jettisoned, eventually. He’s divided his life into happy compartments. A successful trial lawyer, he spends his days lecturing jurors, exasperating judges, and striding arrogantly around courtrooms. He fills his nights with a parade of handsome young men who want to make him happy. Why date someone his own age to discuss back pain, retirement planning, and corns when he can date men who don’t care to discuss anything at all?

After half a century of chaos, my retirement from leading the Community of Species Government has been bliss. No more hellhounds playing pranks. No more snippy demons demanding my attention. No more cajoling money from the wealthy to support the community. Just peace while I avoid my overbearing father and try to work out my next steps. Although...maybe three years of peace is enough. It might even be starting to get boring. In fact, an adolescent dragon crash-landing on my landlord's shed is just the kind of excitement I need - especially when he brings his species leader to my door.

Ari had a game plan for life: shoot people. Get money. Hang out with fellow criminal friends. He saw absolutely no reason to change that plan until one dark night in Memphis, when a little girl reached out to him with pocket change and a desperate plea for him to help her. Adopting an abused little girl off the streets was, needless to say, not part of the plan. Ari had no idea what he was doing with an eight year old. He especially didn’t know how to juggle taking contracts and raising a little girl.

If Sharknado were a book...

Publisher's Summary
Ricardo Torralba and August Morrison don’t agree on much besides the fact that they hate each other. According to Ricardo, August is a spoiled brat who really needs to knock off the sass, once in a while. August insists that Ricardo needs a sense of humor, a good lay, or a well-placed bullet. Maybe all three.
Fortunately, the assassin’s profession is a solitary one, and they can go about their lives without getting in each other’s way.
Usually.
When a contracted hit turns out to be a setup for both of them, they narrowly escape with their lives. Now, even if they don’t like it (spoiler: They don’t), August and Ricardo have to work together if they want a shot at survival.
In between firefights and questionable interrogation methods as they hunt down their would-be killer, the cranky assassins discover that under all that mutual loathing is a spark of chemistry they can’t ignore. They want to ignore it, they probably should ignore it, but August can’t help flirting to annoy Ricardo, and Ricardo can think of at least one way to shut him up for a while.
But they need to focus, damn it, and figure out who’s gunning for them and why. Assuming they don’t kill each other first.
Hitman vs Hitman is a stand-alone, gay romantic suspense featuring two men who’d rather chew glass than fall for each other, a whole lot of inappropriate comments, and some buttons that will need resewing.

What a crazy fun ride!
I really enjoyed listening to this one! Ricky and Auggie are two hitman gone set up. The story and the plot was really unique and written well. I really enjoyed the MCs rapport, their snark and banter and Augustos had me laughing out loud several times!
Michael Ferraiuolo’s performance was stellar! I love the touch of music too.
I hope there’s more stories from these two. Their dynamics work so well and very cute and funny together as much as they’re deadly dangerous too.
Oh, and more sexy times, please! 🤩

I ADORE this narrator, and this story made me laugh out loud more times than I could count. I really loved this book. <3 I'm PRAYING there will be another one! To this day I still have moments when a friend looks very annoyed with me, and all I hear in the back of my mind is; "Aww.... Ricky. <3" Because - lets be honest - I'm not normal. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Brilliantly performed by Michael Ferraiuolo! YES!
What a painfully hilarious (audio)book! No, REALLY! My head ached for about 60 minutes, my sides ached for days, and my eyes burned for hours from the tears I shed in laughter! With Michael Ferraiuolo narrating this awesome bit of madness, I am still surprised I didn't wind up hospitalized. For those loving a great guffaw, grab yourself a rather large drink and prepare to hurt yourself! It'll be just what you need, I promise!
In 'Hitman vs Hitman' Ricardo Torralba gains entry to the mansion of the man he's been hired to assassinate. The money is wonderful and he's all set to go except things aren't what he expects! There's a major party scheduled for that evening with visitors who'll have their own personal bodyguards. Then there's August Morrison who was also paid to assassinate the very same man!
The two assassins couldn't be more very different from each other, having nothing in common save their sexual interest in men! They find themselves having to depend on each other when it becomes clear that each is targeted for a hit! They put their heads together and discover that they were unwilling to accept a job to murder an innocent victim. Now they must kill the folks that are gunning for them.
It took me forever to get through the audiobook for two reasons: 1) I would laugh so much, so hard I'd miss something that would inevitably have me laughing loud and long. I'd had to go back and listen again. (It was a lot more fun than one would think!) and 2) I just didn't want the story to be over! I wanted to draw out the wonderful story by going back to listen to entire chapters over again! Allowing the story to unfold was easier when things in the novel became serious! Yes, there are a couple of tense spots in the narrative! I became fearful and anxious for my boys whom I fell for so completely within the first hour! By the time the conflict was brilliantly resolved, I was contacting the writers on Facebook begging for a series! Fortunately for me, dozens of other writers were calling for a series, too!
The novel had everything especially an incredible narrator! There was lots of comedy but the subject matter is serious. The writers are brilliant in giving us assassins who are basically good guys and completely lovable. The background that each man has that resulted in their chosen profession is sobering, and in one case, quite heartbreaking. The main characters grow in more than just their appreciation and love for each other. They learn to accept and respect each other, in spite of personality, cultural, and socioeconomic differences. I can't wait for the sequel to this book!

📖 Story comment: good pace, great characters, entertaining story.
I had this playing while I was doing some boring stuff at work, I was so delightfully entertained with two hitmen reluctantly teaming up to find out who was after them, that I'd finished what I was doing without even noticing!
Ricardo and August have delightful banter, entertaining personalities and a cracking adventure.
🎧 Narrator comment: Michael Ferraiuolo is fast becoming a master story teller. His performance on Hitman vs Hitman was thoroughly entertaining. He suits the characters, has good timing, inflections and intonations, there is no doubting the connection between the two MC's and he brings life to every scene. 👍 👍

Fun
This book caught my eye as I was trawling through Michael Ferraiuolo's titles. It was also recommended to me as an enjoyable listen.
A hitman book? Narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo? It's difficult not to draw comparisons to Alice Winters' exceptional Hitman series. There's even a person in Ricardo's past known as the Sandman! Though, actually, Ricardo and August remind me of a different Winters pair: Claude and Alexei from How to Lure a Hunter VRC: Vampire Related Crimes, Book 3.
I like both Ricardo and August. They have contrasting characters that go well together. They have some top drawer banter and wonderful chemistry, with each having a good heart and their own vulnerabilities. It's probably a bit weird to think hitmen are adorable, but never mind.
It takes a long time for there to be any romantic element in the book. I'm not sure I would even call it romance, but I enjoy that 'actions speak louder than words' kind of book. Saving your beloved from being murdered is definitely more romantic than hearts and flowers. Unless you're presenting the cold dead heart of your enemy to your beloved... Hmm... Anyway, I enjoyed the closeness that develops between these two and the level of understanding and acceptance they have for each other.
The story is good. It is fast paced and interesting, lots of guns and other weapons. It had the potential to be more exciting and unexpected, and less predictable. I would have enjoyed a huge plot twist thrown in somewhere. I would say that the book is humorous - not laugh out loud funny - but enough to keep you engaged and entertained.
I understand that this book was intended as a standalone, but I - and a lot of other people it seems - think that there is the potential for more from this pair. A second book, Sniper vs Spotter (Hitman vs Hitman Book 2) is due out next month, and I'm looking forward to it. I believe the authors have said that's definitely the end of it. I guess we'll see....
Michael Ferraiuolo is outstanding as always. I say this all the time: his voice is pure magic. There's nothing like putting on a Michael Ferraiuolo when you're having a bad day. As soon as I hear his voice I can feel myself physically start to relax and smile. As always his characterisations are distinct and consistent, his pacing and comic timing exemplary. He also composed original music for this book, and I always love it when a book has a bit of music to set the tone. I cannot say enough great things about Michael's work.

Disappointing
Nowhere in the blurb did it say this book was a lampoon of the hitman genre or I wouldn't have selected it. As both the MCs are buffoons, there was little contrast in their characters, made confusing by having one narrator voice both. Even the top narrator couldn't lift this book. I've had so may good strong thrillers by these authors with excellent characterizations, but this one was unlistenable after the first 30 mins of trite nonsense. Thank god you can return Audiobooks.

Fun and exciting
This book was so much fun! I loved listening to it, Michael's narration was simply amazing! Ricardo and August had perfect chemistry, and I loved their small battles with words. The story was average, but the hitman vs hitman situation totally gave it a highlight. I honestly recommend this book to everybody who wants something similar like Alice Winter's books or just need some laugh and action packed really well.

Fun and exciting!
These authors deliver edgy, sassy and clever dialogue with quick moving plot and unique characters - this book is all of that and with Michael Ferraiuolo's narration to deliver it all in smooth, creamy tones - it's a winner all round! I thoroughly enjoyed the story, characters and edge of your seat dynamics, all with a big smile on my face.

Michael Ferraiuolo: WOW!
What a brilliant narration given to Hitman vs Hitman. I enjoyed the e-book, August and Ricardo were fun with bite, but Michael Ferraiuolo takes them up a notch and elevates them to a whole other level. I’m champing at the bit for Cari Z and L A Witt to write another book featuring August and Ricardo and then book Ferraiuolo (stat) to narrate. He managed to capture and embrace Ricardo’s pragmatism, his quiet loyalty, definite attempts to not smile at August’s theatrical, camp side and his resignation that this is what it is... or maybe he’ll just shoot August in the face. And that snark, “b!tchy,” action, and fun were all on full display. Plus the bonus is the Hitman activities, all while frenemies to lovers is being given a nice old workout. Basically, who wants August and Ricardo dead? Could it be a rival wanting to bump up their standing on the absurdly delightful Hitman review site, Rate My Hit? Could it be the Mob? Or could it simply be the perils of the job? Check it out and enjoy the ride!

Hugely fun action romance!
Two hitman find themselves booked for the same job and they compete for the kill until they realise they might just need to join forces. Ricardo is cool and brooding, August is urbane and chatty. This is exactly my type of m/m romance - heavier on plot with lots of thrills and action, light on the emotional stuff. The audiobook is perfect for Michael Ferraioulo’s arch and eccentric humour. If you like Alice Winter’s books, you’ll love this as much as I did!
