Publisher's Summary

Heralded by the New York Times and Time as the couples therapy with the highest rate of success, Emotionally Focused Therapy works because it views the love relationship as an attachment bond.

This idea, once controversial, is now supported by science, and has become widely popular among therapists around the world. In Hold Me Tight, Dr. Sue Johnson presents Emotionally Focused Therapy to the general public for the first time. Johnson teaches that the way to save and enrich a relationship is to reestablish safe emotional connection and preserve the attachment bond. With this in mind, she focuses on key moments in a relationship - from "Recognizing the Demon Dialogue" to "Revisiting a Rocky Moment" - and uses them as touch points for seven healing conversations.

Through case studies from her practice, illuminating advice, and practical exercises, couples will learn how to nurture their relationships and ensure a lifetime of love.

No PDFs

This book references several worksheets but does not provide them in PDF. They also advise that you go to a website and spend even more money. The book is repetitive in it's methods sales pitch and still withholds the information.

Should've read this a long time ago.

This will be a book I will read countless times. It opened my eyes to the dance couples go through and gave me peace that it's fixable if done right. I owe so much to the teachings in this book and will re-read over and over to find different meaning each time.

implementation would work without a facilitator?

The book was the results of the author's 25 years of clinical research, and have a 75% success rate. The book conveys the main principle that both men and women want to feel connection, and the pain of lacking that is the heart of the problems in a relationship. The application of attachment theory to adult romantic relationships is helpful, and would help couples to communicate better, understand their and their partner's motivations and actions better. Yet, the book did not discuss how to figure out whether a relationship is worth saving.

Despite good guidance provided, one may wonder whether one's own implementation would work without a facilitator.

If you are interested in the attachment theory, which was the basis on which this book was built, you may well be advised to also go to the sources, i.e. John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth.

Great book

Fantastic book on connecting in couples, but can also be used for business (aside from the intimacy parts of course) due to listening skills it goes over as well as connection.

Finally!

I often found myself telling others how important connection is for human beings. It's allowed us to survive and ultimately thrive as a species. We are constantly looking for it. It's what drives relationships with each other and the void we attempt to fill with religion (In my opinion). This book help a person understand what it is and how to nurture it in a healthy way that eventually makes us and those we love better people.

Read this...read this...then do and be better.

Unable to listen to it

When the narrator read the dialog between the couples it was horrible. I had to read the book for a class, and I use audible for time and comprehension. I was unable to finish the book. I would listen to a page or two, and as the narrator raise her voice, I found myself feeling triggered.
