Sweet collection of stories

Every visit to this town is a charming one. This collection of stories is set around holidays and the theme introduces you to some of the fun characters in this town. I enjoyed the historical data after the story telling about the origins of the holiday as well. If you don't have time for a long novel, these quick stories are a nice change.

A lovely collection of stories

This is a lovely collection of short stories based on the theme of traditional holidays. There is a strong element of Christian values embedded in the tales. I have enjoyed all of the books in the Willow Valley series and it was really nice to visit the town again and enjoy some heartwarming stories. The author always adds a little bit of historical information for the reader as well which I love. Carolyn Kashner provides a consistently good performance.

Short stories that add up.

This audiobook is a collection of short stories of holidays throughout a single year, following some of the same characters throughout. The stories were very cute, feel-good stories, so it was fun to listen to. But my favorite part was hearing the author's notes about each holiday and it's history in-between every story. It is obvious that the author has done her homework, and used that research to write fun personable stories.

The narrator does a great job. She was easy to understand and follow, even while I was doing other tasks while listening.

Holiday Adventures

Join the townsfolk of Willow Valley for some holiday fun! A collection of six short stories about how the people of Willow Valley celebrated Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, April fools, Independence Day, Halloween and Christmas in the 1840's. I enjoyed the author notes giving the information about the origins of the holiday.
My favorite was the Christmas story and learning that America did not always celebrate Christmas.

I also have to mention that this is a clean christian book.

The author gave me a audible copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Variety of holiday stories

This collection of stories were just an okay read for me. I liked that they all took place in the same valley with the same characters making appearances in each, just focusing on different people in the various stories. And it was interesting to read a story that was about more holidays than just Christmas.
I felt like the stories were written for a young audience, like even tweens yet they weren't really stories that a tween would love. The stories are very moralistic with in your face Christian themes. There was no subtlety to what moral each story was trying to teach. For example, one woman has been told to try to look more cheerful instead of somber and people will be attracted to her due to the cheerful disposition. They go to a dance and a man walks and up says something like, "You look so cheerful. Would you like to dance?" Not subtle. All the themes are good like kindness, charity, anti-slavery, seeking out the lonely, etc... But it didn't feel natural to me.

The author shares the background of each story from a historical point of view and teaches the reader a little about the origins of each holiday which was interesting.

I felt like the narrator added to the feeling that the stories were being told to a very young audience so it didn't really enhance the experience for me. She did vary her voice for different characters.

The stories are lovely

I fell in love with most of the characters in ‘A Pleasant Rivalry’. Listening to the stories with the different holidays and the historical background and actually history of the cultural background was amazing! Some of the stories made me smile, some made me teary-eyed, while some were wrinkled my nose since they challenged some of my beliefs.
