Dayna Anderson doesn't set out to solve a murder. All the semi-famous, mega-broke actress wants is to help her parents keep their house. So after witnessing a deadly hit-and-run, she pursues the 15-grand reward. But Dayna soon finds herself doing a full-on investigation, wanting more than just money - she wants justice for the victim. She chases down leads at paparazzi hot spots, celeb homes, and movie premieres, loving every second of it - until someone tries to kill her. And there are no second takes in real life.

Pretty Good

This is a fun an entertaining book with light humor and well written plot. I enjoyed the way the characters interacted with each other and how they went about their investigation. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes light humorous mysteries. I hope there is more to come from this author.

"Dont think so, Boo" - Dayna

A silly fun comedy. I found myself reading for the laughs and also to see what other trouble Dayna could get in. Though the plot is around a homicide, the story is pretty light hearted as the author uses the characters' flaws and extreme antics to keep us giggling or gasping.

There are times when I wanted Dayna to be real so that we could be friends... and times when I wanted to strangle her myself.

It's a book based in Hollywood so expect lots of movie references, shopping, shallowness, and valley-girl jargon. If you're into more serious stories then I wouldnt suggest. If you need to relax, then you should fall into this comedy story wrapped in little bit of Black Girl Magic and a crew of real female friends.

Great narration by Bahni Turpin!!!

Great light Detective series

Really well written characters and super funny! I’m kinda upset they don’t give a warning you may never hear the third book in the series. Something about imprints and publisher things the average reader/listener don’t really know about.

I’m just sad I finally found a well written, clean and exciting author whose leading lady is a black woman in a familiar place to me which is Hwood and I won’t even know how the series ends. I really hope Ms. Garrett is working on another similar series or story. Her characters are funny yet flawed. Her setting so familiar to me there were times I was on the same freeways or streets while I was listening. If you haven’t lived in Los Angeles Ms. Garrett paints a perfect picture.

There is no excessive erotica or cursing which at first I was not on board but in the end it was nice to just dig into the story. I don’t like the quick 2 min epilogue wrap ups. We’ve been listening for 10+ hours. I want the full wrap up man! I think there could be more balance there but otherwise great listen. Even with the troubles on the third book happy I found this author. Wish I could yell from the roof tops please do more audible releases! Narrator was good too. I cringe with some of this readers who are supposed to read ethnic characters but Ms. Turpin did a great job.

Thoroughly entertaining!

I LOVED this book! Garrett creates a wonderfully fun and lovable protagonist. I particularly liked the protagonist, because I too am a "retired" actor. The Hollywood humor was very enjoyable. This book is suspenseful AND funny, a combination I love. There were many laugh out loud moments, but I also did not want to stop listening. Plus, it is a true mystery, with fabulously planted clues. Bahni Turpin's narration is excellent!

It's really worth 3 1/2 stars.

The first few chapters dragged along that I considered not finishing this book; however, I eventually gave it a second chance. Well, the rest of the chapters weren't boring and 4 stars for the narration. I am curious to see what happens next.

Clever Comedy Whodunit

I enjoy most thriller and true crime stories so this is out of my usual norm. Was in the mood for something lighter and this was perfect. Main character did manage to make me laugh out loud and I wasn't able to guess the murderer so that was a plus as well. Will definitely pick up the next in the series.

Finally, a cozy mystery with black characters

This was a very fun listen. Dayna is a relatable character. It was fun listening to all the Hollywood glitz. Some things were on the nose like the Emmy/Omari mistake. But the Montgomery Rose twist was awesome! On to her next book.

So Enjoyable!

I loved this book. It was fun to listen, plot was good even though it had a few ridiculous points (but in a good way). I look forward to listening to the next one in the series.
