Publisher's Summary

Only 27 years old, Horatio Hornblower has distinguished himself as a capable and intrepid officer in the Royal Navy. On a reconnaissance mission with the Hotspur, a three-masted frigate under his command, Hornblower and his crew narrowly avoid capture by their French adversaries, but the danger is not over. In the meantime, misgivings about his recent marriage also weigh heavily on the young officer's mind.

In this 10th novel of the Hornblower series, C.S. Forester depicts another rousing adventure set during the Napoleonic wars.

Adjust narration and this is a good purchase.

This narration is painfully slooowwww and draraaaawwwwn out. Nothing against the narrator, he is obviously a talented actor, I just personally struggled with the performance style. However, if you adjust the speed to 1.4, it becomes perfectly tolerable. This purchase is totally worth it for the fantastic story continuation of this epic character. Make the speed adjustment and then sit back and enjoy another fantastic adventure of Horatio Hornblower!

Great book, poor reader

I learned a valuable lesson about listening to the sample before purchasing a book. I made the thoughtless purchase before getting on a long flight, and much to my dismay the reader sounds so guttural its as if he's talking from his tonsils, while concurrently sending spittle from his flaccid tongue all over the microphone as he speaks. You really need to focus on the reader intently to understand the first few chapters before you get the hang of understanding the noise emitting his oral orifice. Hopefully there are other readers for the rest of the series!
