Could have done without pornographic details

I think that this is an important work, and very valuable for understanding demonology and some of the mechanics of demonic influence and demon possession.

Martin is a very good storyteller, and weaves his narratives together in a way that makes each of these five exorcisms intellectually and emotionally accessible. The narrator is stellar; one of the best I’ve yet heard. His pronunciations are spot-on, and his affectations of different tones, pitches, and accents are above-average in Audible World.

My chief complaint about the book is the (in my opinion) overly graphic description of certain sexual details pertaining to two of the possessed. The WAY graphic description of a transsexual’s participation in a Satanic orgy was not only sickening in the moment, but is something that I can’t “un-hear”, something that continues to disturb my consciousness.

Overall worthwhile, but if I could have gotten a PG-13 version of this instead of the X-rated version, I’d be a lot more satisfied (no irony intended).

A literary great introduces Lucifer to moderns

This is a must read for anyone sensing evil in our world whether it comes from a spiritual or simply the material sense of smell emanating from our institutions. The 'stories' are fact based narratives that Martin developed from tapes and interviews of those involved with exorcisms. Each story begins with a 'deal' with the devil to be a servant in return for something material and usually big depending on the imagination of the person. The author was made infamous from his observations concerning the inner sanctums of the Vatican and the deals some high up in them made with Lucifer. Read the Book of Job and it makes more sense. The pornographic details are dirty and disgusting; they present a realistic demonic aspect of pornography and are meant to show the true source of this influence on America and the west. I hope other works of Martin are brought to Audible such as Windswept House which is a really great American novel greater than Gone with the Wind which is echos.

Informative and Captivating

Malachi was fantastic at describing the events of the exorcisms. He describes the features and sounds so well that you can firmly grasp the emotions of the characters. The narrator had an actually pleasant voice for the book. He didn't go overboard at all.

Foul, graphic sexual content.

chose not to finish this one. I was just put off by the foul, graphic sexual content. Nobody thinks demons play nice, but a bit too much for me.

It was worth it to get but still pretty rough.

Two problems I had with this story,
One I did not like the churches biases added to the story they could’ve told the story with out adding the biases of the church,
Two at the end of the book they give you a word for word DIY exorcism what I find dangerous about that is if you give the blueprints to a bomb to a person they’re going to try to make one. So with all the danger they put in this book about possession why would they have a word for word telling at the end of the book it’s like asking for trouble in my opinion other than that I enjoyed the book immensely.

Extremely educational as to the works of Satan.

Informative and gripping, great preventative to not fall in the same traps the exorcees fell into to become possessed in the first place.

Excellent Book

This my 4th time reading (now listening) to this book. I used to tune in to Art Bell every time Malachi Martin was on his show. An incredible book.

No Irish narrators available?

Malachi Martin knows how to tell a story. It's gripping stuff. My only issue is the reading performance. The narrator does Yorkshire/Welsh/Brummy accents for all the Irish characters. As an Irishman I burst out laughing or cringed while listening. I felt bad for doing so especially during the dramatic exorcisms. It was nearly as bad as watching Russell Crowe spit out every UK and Irish regional accent during Robin Hood. Crikey could they not have got an Irish narrator since himself was an Irishman. Hey Audible! Sort it out me old son....

very unsettling but a must listen

Truly one of the most unsettling thing I've ever heard, but super interesting and strangely enjoyable. Very educational as well. Just don't listen in the dark or alone and expect to fall asleep !!

Closed-minded rubbish.

As an anthropology student I take a very open-minded view on text about things like exorcism, but there's so much underlying
