Publisher's Summary

Hotel Magnifique opened the door to a sumptuous and glittering world of magic and mysteries and left me enchanted. Perfect for fans of Caraval and The Night Circus.” –Erin A. Craig, New York Times bestselling author of House of Salt and Sorrows and Small Favors

Decadent and darkly enchanting, this lavish YA fantasy debut follows seventeen-year-old Jani as she uncovers the deeply disturbing secrets of the legendary Hotel Magnifique.

All her life, Jani has dreamed of Elsewhere. Just barely scraping by with her job at a tannery, she’s resigned to a dreary life in the port town of Durc, caring for her younger sister Zosa. That is, until the Hotel Magnifique comes to town.

The hotel is legendary not only for its whimsical enchantments, but also for its ability to travel—appearing in a different destination every morning. While Jani and Zosa can’t afford the exorbitant costs of a guest’s stay, they can interview to join the staff, and are soon whisked away on the greatest adventure of their lives. But once inside, Jani quickly discovers their contracts are unbreakable and that beneath the marvelous glamour, the hotel is hiding dangerous secrets.

With the vexingly handsome doorman Bel as her only ally, Jani embarks on a mission to unravel the mystery of the magic at the heart of the hotel and free Zosa—and the other staff—from the cruelty of the ruthless maître d’hôtel. To succeed, she’ll have to risk everything she loves, but failure would mean a fate far worse than never returning home.

Terribly Brilliant for a YA Novel that is not something I would’ve ever typically read

I have to admit, I accidentally purchased this audiobook on accident because my short term memory is terrible and it wound up being the incorrect book - But never in my life have I been happier about making a $20 dollar / 10 h 30 m investment of a mistake!!

I was quite concerned once I read it was listed under the “YA Novels” category-as I am in my 30’s & a veterinary specialist who loves sci-fi anthologies, feminist poetry, depressing Russian literature 10-20 years older than myself, or nonfiction written by hunter s. Thompson that is dog earred on every single page, highlighted & written all over because I’ve re-read them all so many times.. [[My point? I’m picky as hell & my taste is extremely particular AND weird - LOL]]

But this was refreshingly original!! Once I began listening to the audio book after my work shifts it became a routine thing for me the moment I left work & was able to sync up the blue tooth to my Jeep & I finished 10.5 hours of listening 3 and a half days later & was genuinely bummed out!!

The world the author creates for the reader is one that is so rich that you are able to visualize each individual character as they come to life and interact with one another - Which is always such an incredible feat in my eyes for a novel with such an original & brilliantly creative concept for the premise of the entire novel to begin with!!

I mean … This is the first book review in my life I’ve ever gone out of my way to write. So I help that helps at least one person understand just how phenomenal of a read [Or listen! Even!] this book truly is!!

Magical!

I really enjoyed listening to this! Filled with imagery that's colorful and delighting; my mind's eye was treated. The dark twists are unforgiving.

Standard YA Novel

Imaginative, fun, and easy to read (or listen to). Nothing that stands out as spectacular though, pretty standard material you could expect from a YA novel. Would probably appeal more to early teens rather than young adults.

Hotel Magnifique

The performance Suzy Jackson and Simon Hedger was amazing and flawless! The storyline, however, was not my cup of tea. The book was very bizarre and odd. It wasn't for me

Something different

I'm noticing that alot of these fiction stories take place in schools, and as much as I do love that, sometimes i want something different. This was perfect for that. A magical hotel. The characters were great and easy to remember. Narrator did a great job putting these characters to life.

Best book I’ve read so far this year

Incredible. I thought there was no way this book could live up to the hype on booktok but oh boy it did. It mixed magic, travel, excitement and lavish descriptions in just the right amounts for a glorious debut. Can’t wait for more from this author. Hotel Magnifique is definitely joining my favorites list!
